“Blood: the last Vampire” is an interesting proposition, not only because it sees Jeon Ji Hyun (“My Sassy Girl”), one of Korea’s most popular actresses, making her English language debut, but also since it represents one of the few Hollywood Japanese anime adaptations to make a real effort to build upon its source material. The film is based upon the 2000 anime from Production I.G of “Ghost in the Shell” fame, which was directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo (one of the key animators who worked on the classic “Akira”), and was helmed by Chris Nahon, who previously had cross-cultural cinematic experiences with the French-English outings “Empire of the Wolves”, and “Kiss of the Dragon”, arguably one of Jet Li’s better Western efforts. Adding to its pedigree is the presence of Corey Yuen, one of Hong Kong’s most prolific and best known action directors, who recently worked on the likes of “Transporter 3” and John Woo’s epic “Red Cliff”.

Based on the 2000 Japanese anime of the same name, Chris Nahon’s “Blood: The Last Vampire” marks the English-language debut of actress Jeon Ji-hyun, who first rose to International fame in the 2001 South Korean romantic comedy “My Sassy Girl”. Here, Jeon has chosen to use the more International-friendly Gianna Jun in the credits, though I suspect this will be irrelevant to most of the film’s audience. The movie saw limited release in the States, but should have a more robust box office take (or at least DVD sales) in Asian countries based on Jun’s celebrity status. Fans of wild action movies should also take a look at “Blood”, as although it is lacking in most areas, martial arts action is something it has in abundance.
“Blood” has Gianna Jun playing Saya, a half-human, half-vampire half-breed that stalks the dark alleyways and subway cars of Japan looking for demons to slay. Luckily for her, demons seem to be plentiful in this [...]

Interesting happenings at the box office over the weekend, as although Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Bruno” took the top spot as expected, it doesn’t appear as if the movie, which scored $30.4 million (according to studio estimates) will have legs. Although the mockumentary, about a gay Austrian fashion designer who comes to America and does gay stuff to make people uncomfortable for laughs, easily topped the debut weekend of its predecessor “Borat’s” $26.5 million, it had the advantage of being screened in three times the number of theaters as the 2006 movie, which went on to make $128.5 million in the States.
Another chink in “Bruno’s” armor is that the film scored big on Friday ($14.4 million), but fell off on Saturday and Sunday ($8.8 million and $7.2 million, respectively). Usually when a movie does well on Fridays, it usually continues the momentum into Saturdays, the biggest moviegoing day of the week. The fact that “Bruno” dropped off is not a good [...]

Another clip from Chris Nahon’s “Blood: The Last Vampire”, featuring Saya (star Gianna Jun) and Alice (Allison Miller) fleeing blood-thirsty vampire types in a dark and rain-soaked alleyway. The film will be Gianna Jun’s first English-language movie, and is based on the Japanese horror anime of the same name, though from what I can tell, the live-action version has diverted quite spectacularly from the original anime.
A vampire named Saya, who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon is disguise.
Starring Gianna Jun, Allison Miller, Masiela Lusha, JJ Feild, Koyuki, Yasuaki Kurata, Michael Byrne, Colin Salmon, Andrew Pleavin, and directed by Chris Nahon.
Watch Saya play in the rain July 10.

Two clips courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, the first one featuring an assault on John Dillinger’s safehouse by Christian Bale’s Melvin Purvis from Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies”. It’s a pretty wild and brutal minute long clip, featuring a ton of ammo and Tommy Gun action. Really cool stuff. The second clip is from Chris Nahon’s live-acton “Blood: The Last Vampire”, featuring Gianna Jun’s Saya taking on a vampire while hanging from a truck that’s about to plummet to its doom. I’m not so sure about the vampire. Also, I don’t recall the scene being in the original anime, but then again, it looks like they veered pretty heavily from it, so no surprises there.

Another very cool clip from Chris Nahon’s live-action take on the popular Japanese anime “Blood: The Last Vampire”, starring South Korea’s Gianna Jun and America’s Allison Miller as two lasses running away from some bloodthirsty, flying vampire types. They find themselves in a big Army truck to aid in their escape, but did I mention those vampires are the flying type? Check out another minute-long clip from the movie.

Another new batch of images from Chris Nahon’s vampire actioner “Blood: The Last Vampire”, based on the original Japanese anime that you’ve probably never heard of. Never you mind that. The live-action film looks like a fantastic bloodbath, starring South Korean superstar Jeon Ji-hyeon (here going by Gianna Jun) in her first International English-speaking role, swinging a sword like no one’s business. Plus, there are a bunch of native English speakers out there to fill out the dialogue stuff, as if you’ll care.
From Samuel Goldwyn Films, Blood: The Last Vampire brings to life an English language live-action feature movie of the original Japanese anime feature film from a producer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero. Gianna (My Sassy Girl, Daisy) stars in the film as Saya, a 400-year-old demon-hunting vampire slayer working undercover in Japan for a secret organization, on a mission in the Vietnam War era. The cast also includes Koyuki (The Last Samurai, Always: Sunset [...]

The first five minutes and five clips from Chris Nahon’s live-action adaptation of the popular horror anime “Blood: The Last Vampire” for ya this Wednesday. The first five minutes and a couple of the clips are pretty bloody, especially the alley fight where Saya takes on a gang of vampires in the rain. The rest are tame, and the “Something Wrong” clip is already shown in the first five minutes clip, so feel free to skip it. One thing is very noticeable, though: the film’s dialogue is pretty clunky, and I’m not just talking about Gianna Jun’s English, either. You get this feeling the whole movie is supposed to be in another language, but someone forced the filmmakers to go the English route, and it kind of shows.

Samuel Goldwyn Films sent over the latest English trailer for “Blood: The Last Vampire” yesterday, and today they’ve returned with the latest poster. It features the main character Saya with her trusty swords. The girl in the small background pic, I believe, is Masiela Lusha of The George Lopez Show. Not sure why they decided to feature her in the poster with Gianna Jun, since as far as I know she’s a minor character in the movie.

Samuel Goldwyn Films just sent over the latest English trailer for Chris Nahon’s live-action adaptation of the Japanese horror anime “Blood: The Last Vampire”. The movie boasts the International film debut of South Korean mega star Gianna Jun (”My Sassy Girl”, “Winstruck”) and stunt action choreography by Hong Kong’s Corey Yuen (the “Transporter” films). It looks like a stylish action movie, with plenty of swordfights in the rain and crazy action shots. And oh yeah, plenty of schoolgirl outfits, if you’re into that sort of thing. Should be fun for fans of the anime to see the movie turned into live-action courtesy of a Hollywood budget.

And yes, these images are all very Gianna Jun-centric, and the sassiest of the sassy girl has never looked fiercer. Of course, the big honking sword helps.

“Blood: The Last Vampire”, a live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime of the same name, was supposed to be released in 2008, but seems to have stalled a bit. It’s now getting ready to come out in 2009, and here’s our first look at footage from the movie via a Japanese teaser trailer. It’s very short, but you do get an idea of how the movie will look and feel.
The film stars Jeon Ji-hyeon, making her English-language debut, and co-stars Allison Miller, Masiela Lusha, Colin Salmon, Andrew Pleavin, and Koyuki. Frenchman Chris Nahon (”Kiss of the Dragon”) directs.

A few new images from the upcoming live-action version of the Japanese anime “Blood: The Last Vampire”, starring South Korean star Jeon Ji-Hyun (going by Gianna Jun for the role) and Masiela Lusha, whose Myspace page had these images. The film is directed by Frenchman Chris Nahon, and is currently in post-production, so that means we should see a trailer, or something official, from the movie very soon. I’ve seen the anime, and Jun really does look the part of Saya in these stills, dour expression and all (she is a pretty old vampire, you know).

If you’ve been wondering how South Korean movie star Jeon Ji-hyeon (going by Gianna Jun for her Hollywood debut) looks in that schoolgirl outfit while battling vampires as Sawa, and pictures that we’ve posted in the past haven’t been enough, well hold onto your seats, boys, because a huge batch of “Blood: The Last Vampire” images have just appeared online at a Chinese gaming forum, and they’re quite vampirific! Images may contain POTENTIAL SPOILERS.
On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year-old, but that youthful exterior hides the tormented soul of a 400-year-old “halfling.” Born to a human father and a vampire mother, she has for centuries been a loner obsessed with using her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires, all the while knowing that she herself can survive only on blood like those she hunts. When she is sent onto an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization she works for, Saya immediately senses that this [...]

The first image from French director Chris Nahon’s live-action remake of the Japanese anime “Blood: The Last Vampire” has finally surfaced on the net via Jeon Ji Hyun Online, who posted this black and white image from the movie (thumbnail to your left, bigger version below) and a couple of behind-the-scenes images of Jeon Ji Hyun in action. It looks like a template for an upcoming movie poster, although I hope not, because the image, well, doesn’t exactly pop, even if they added color. Then again, it could just be a test image or something benign like that, so there’s really no point in reading too much into it.
