In the future, apparently, everybody wears leather or robes or heavy jackets. It’s not necessarily a fashion statement; it’s just that all others clothes were incinerated during the apocalypse. I blame Mad Max for this trend, I think, unless it began before then. The poster for The Book of Eli, which debuted on MySpace, shows Denzel Washington in all of his rugged glory with implacable, badass shades and a heavy coat, so you know that he’s serious. However, the poster is somewhat plain since it only features Washington’s face. The post-apocalypse may be bleak indeed if that face is the only thing worth showing. But it hopefully will be a solid film since it’s the first movie that Allen and Albert Hughes have directed since From Hell in 2001. As the poster says, you will bELIeve on January 15th, 2010.

So yup, the secret is out: Eli’s little book, that everyone wants to get their little hands on, is a copy of the Bible. I kinda figured that’s what it was. Here’s the latest, action-packed theatrical trailer for the Hughes Brother’s post-apocalyptic movie “Book of Eli”. The trailer really plays up the action, which is not necessarily a bad thing. When it comes to big-budget post-apocalyptic tales, you can go gritty and depressing like “The Road”, or you can go the ass kicking route, which seems to be the case here.
A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
Starring Mila Kunis, Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Gambon, Tom Waits, Ray Stevenson, Frances de la Tour, and directed by Albert and Allen Hughes.
Grab a copy of Eli’s book January 15, 2010.

Here’s your first look at Mila Kunis in the Hughes Brothers’ post-apocalyptic action movie “The Book of Eli”, although according to the bros, they really don’t like it when you call the film a “post-apocalyptic” movie, even though, er, it is. In the film, Kunis plays a character named Solara, a young girl who is sent by her Warlord step-dad played by Gary Oldman to get that mysterious book from Eli (Denzel Washington), which I still think is a phone book. Or the bible. Or a cook book. Hey, it’s the not-post-apocalypse. Anything is possible.
Starring Mila Kunis, Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals, Michael Gambon, Ray Stevenson, Chris Browning, Tom Waits, Frances de la Tour, Luis Bordonada, Joe Pingue, and directed by Albert and Allen Hughes.
Kunis chases Eli’s book January 15, 2010.

After a long wait, it’s finally here — the first trailer for Denzel Washington’s post-apocalyptic action film, “Book of Eli”. The Hughes Brothers are directing this one, and it co-stars Gary Oldman as the bad guy (who plays bad guys better than Gary Oldman?) and Mila Kunis as the love interest. I’m still not sold on Kunis, but I’ve been sold on “Book of Eli” since I heard the premise many moons ago. Check out the first teaser trailer for the movie, opening early next year.

Apparently being a Warlord in a post-apocalyptic world means you get to look like a pimp. Or at least that’s the impression I got from these set pictures of Gary Oldman in “The Book of Eli”, where his character Carnegie is confronting a gun-wielding Eli (played by Denzel Washington), the mysterious drifter who possesses the titular book that may hold the key to saving what’s left of humankind.
A post-apocalyptic Western, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
See, I just said that.
Anyways, the film stars Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman, Denzel Washington, Ray Stevenson, Michael Gambon, and Jennifer Beals. The Hughes brothers directs.

There are only two things in this world you can be sure of: Denzel Washington in “Book of Eli” has the potential to be ass-kicking good, and there are some of you who thinks “I Love You Beth Cooper”, starring the girl from Heroes and a 28-year old who looks like he’s actually 38-years old playing a high school kid who loves her sounds like great fun. I pray for those of you who fall in the latter camp.
But back to our point. Here’s your first look at Denzel Washington in the Hughes Brothers’ “Book of Eli”. No sign of Eli’s book in the picture, but I’m sure he has it on him somewhere. It’s kind of important, you know.

Now that the contracts have been signed and the cash agreed upon, Ray Stevenson has apparently been given the green light to talk about the upcoming “Book of Eli”, which he was just announced as joining as little as a few days ago. “Book of Eli” is one of those movies that just appeals to me on so many levels. There’s that whole post-apocalyptic angle, which I’ve loved since the cheesy ’80s, and the idea that one man has in his possession a book that can save humanity, and everyone wants it, even if they don’t know what it is. (I’m still guessing it’s something completely silly.) Good stuff there, folks, real good stuff. So what about Stevenson’s character, and what’s the deal with the world of Eli? It’s all about water, says Stevenson.
The former Punisher tells Sci Fi Wire:

Whether Ray Stevenson will find stardom in Hollywood probably depends on how his starring turn as the Punisher in “Punisher: War Zone” performs at the box office. Things are not looking, er, good. Besides the assload of bad publicity engendered from the film’s inside fighting between the director, producer, and various other factions, there’s the matter of the movie itself. It, er, doesn’t look so hot. At least, unless you think colorful lighting is what the Punisher is all about. I guess I just, you know, never looked at the character in quite those colorful primary colors before. Anyways. Even if the Punisher bombs (again), Stevenson should have a pretty steady career as the hulking enforcer-ish type, which seems to be what he’s playing in the upcoming “Book of Eli”.
Variety has more on Stevenson’s role in the sci-fi/Western movie:

The movie will star Denzel Washington as a sword-carrying warrior in charge of a book that can save humanity, and that everyone seems to want. Gary Oldman has already signed on to play Eli’s nemesis, and now Kunis has joined the cast as Solara, a woman who is sent (by Oldman’s warlord character, one presumes) to worm her way into Eli’s confidence in order to betray him, but the plan backfires when Solara decides to join Eli’s quest to save mankind with the titular book.
Well this is interesting. When I heard about Denzel Washington’s post-apocalyptic movie “Book of Eli”, I was expecting more of a drama type movie. As it turns not, this thing may actually be more action-oriented than I originally thought, or at least that’s what I’m assuming after seeing this teaser poster for the movie, which features a silhouetted character wearing a sword scabbard. If you’re going to wear a sword on the poster, it’s only fair to assume that the sword gets used at one point or another in the movie. Are we looking at a “Blade”-ish movie here? Curiouser and curiouser…
Poster and info via Comingsoon:
The January 15, 2010 release revolves around a lone warrior (Washington) who must fight to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption. Oldman has been set to portray the despot of a small makeshift town who’s determined to take possession of the book Eli’s guarding.

Gary Oldman is scheduled to play a badass warlord in a post-apocalyptic America in the upcoming “Book of Eli”, an action thriller that will star Denzel Washington as the titular Eli, a man in possession of a book that he believes holds the key to saving the world. My guess is that there’s a twist at the end, and the book will end up being the Yellow Pages or something equally mundane, but (supposedly) eloquent. Originally I thought it might be the bible, but Hollywood is way too anti-Bible nowadays to give the Good Book that much credence, so I’m going for the M. Night Shyamalan twist ending and say the “book” in question is something idiotic like a Yellow Book or, even better, a ragged copy of Playboy.
