Joel and Ethan Coen make comedies with a body count, and “Burn After Reading” is no exception. It starts off with the demotion of Osborne Cox (John Malkovich), an unpleasant f-word spewing and irascible CIA agent. Instead of suffering the demotion, he quits his job, telling Katie, his cold British wife (Tilda Swinton), that he’ll work out of the house as a consultant and spend his free time crafting his memoirs. Since she’s already having an affair with Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney), a gold-chain wearing lothario in the Treasury Department, she decides to get a divorce and hook up with Harry. (Harry, however, is already married to a famous children’s author who herself is stepping out on him.) Katie’s lawyer tells her that before she does anything further, she needs to get him copies of their financial statements. She downloads Osborne’s files onto a CD-Rom, and gives it to his secretary. She, for some reason, takes a bag filled with [...]

A new batch of images from the Coen Brothers’ wacky little tale of spies, adultery, and gym rats gone bad (aka “Burn After Reading”) have arrived for your perusal pleasure. How could you not be intrigued by a movie boasting a cast that includes George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt, and Tilda Swinton? The trailer for this thing looks like a pretty good time if you enjoy the Coens’ brand of kooky, offbeat humor. A little bit like “O Brother Where Art Thou”, the film that really got me into the Coens, minus the overalls and Southern twang, but probably just as much random acts of violence.
Burn After Reading, a comedy thriller from Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, Fargo, The Big Lebowski), is world-premiering as the opening-night film of the 2008 Venice International Film Festival.
At the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency in Arlington, Va., analyst Osborne Cox (John Malkovich) arrives [...]

There are a couple of really good bits in this red band trailer for the Coens Brothers’ latest, “Burn After Reading”. In the first one, Brad Pitt’s blackmailing gym douche bag seems completely dumbfounded when the CIA guy he’s trying to blackmail (played by the kooky JOhn Malkovich) refuses to pay up, and instead punches him in the nose; in another scene, toward the end, there is a discussion by some CIA types about what to do with a dead body — their solutoin: burn it. Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, and Tilda Swinton, here’s a great trailer for “Burn After Reading”.
A dark spy-comedy from Academy Award winners Joel and Ethan Coen. An ousted CIA official’s (Academy Award nominee John Malkovich) memoir accidentally falls into the hands of two unwise gym employees intent on exploiting their find.
Writers/Directors: Joel and Ethan Coen (“No Country for Old Men,” “Fargo”)

Leave it to the Coens Brothers to jump right into what is looking like a goofy comedy after the bloodbath that was the gritty “No Country for Old Men”. Ethan and Joel Coen once again writes and directs “Burn After Reading”, a spy comedy starring “Oceans Eleven” buds Brad Pitt and George Clooney, with Tilda Swinton as a cheating housewife, Frances McDormand, and John Malkovich as a gun-toting former CIA drunk thrown in there for good measure.
Here’s a nice rundown of the premise from Wikipedia:
John Malkovich will play Ozzie Cox, a CIA vet who is fired because he is an alcoholic. He takes his revenge by writing some inflammatory memoirs. Cox’s soon-to-be ex-wife Katie (Tilda Swinton) steals the disc containing his memoirs and accidentally leaves it at the gym where it is found by a trainer Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) and the gym’s owner Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) who believe they can use the info to blackmail Cox.

Looks like moviegoers won’t have to wait very long for the Coen Brothers’ latest film, the spy comedy “Burn After Reading”, which will star George Clooney and Brad Pitt, among others. So what’s it about? “A disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous gym employees who attempt to sell it.” The whole shebang is written and directed by the Coens, so expect wacky “Big Lebowski”-type good times.
More:
Focus features has just set Sept. 12 as the domestic release date for “Burn After Reading,” a dark comedy about the spy business starring George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt and Tilda Swinton.
It used to take the Coens a couple of years to do one movie; that was then. In 2009, they’re already committed to three screenplays, two of which they’ll direct, and the third, “Suburbicon”, to be directed by frequent muse George Clooney.
