The guy who made Captain Kirk cool again is one busy fella. In the same day that news broke about Chris Pine being in negotiations to star in “The Art of Making Money” for D.J. Caruso, the trades are now reporting that Pine is also in negotiations to front the Paramount reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise, with Mace Neufeld and Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing.
A Jack Ryan reboot has been on Paramount’s minds for years now, with some notable names attached to it at one point or another. Even Sam Raimi was once serious about producing the reboot, but he has since left the project to pursue other ventures. If Pine does end up signing on the dotted line to play Ryan, he’ll be the fourth actor, and the first since 2002’s “The Sum of All Fears”, to play the role on the big screen.
Alec Baldwin was the first to play Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst in 1990’s [...]

So did I tell ya this was gonna happen, or did I tell ya this was gonna happen? Yeah, I told ya this was gonna happen. Mind you, not that the idea of Sam Raimi directing a Jack Ryan reboot is up there with an “Evil Dead 4″ movie, but it would have been interesting to see what a genre fella like Raimi could do with a character like uptight CIA guy Jack Ryan. Now we’ll never know, because Raimi has confirmed that, because of his new commitment to making “Spider-Man 4″ and “Spider-Man 5″, he won’t have time to re-invent Ryan and company.
More:
Raimi revealed to us during the chat that he’d be willing to shoot “Spider-Man 4” and “Spider-Man 5” at the same time, and also spoke about the futures of Kirsten Dunst and The Lizard. And, as he explained, that doesn’t leave him any time to reboot Tom Clancy’s tale of America’s top CIA operative.

While overseas promoting “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull”, Harrison Ford made it very clear that should the opportunity present itself, he would very much like to jump back into the Jack Ryan franchise. Of course this might not actually work out, as the franchise is currently in the reboot stages under the direction of one Sam Raimi, and it would seem pointless to “reboot” a franchise if you’re just going to hire an aging actor to play the main character anyways. But as “Indy 4’s” box office has proven, an aging Harrison Ford, in the right vehicle, still translates into boffo box office numbers.
Brit newspaper The Sun quotes Ford as saying this about the Jack Ryan character:
He said: “The Ryan films, the Tom Clancy films were I thought worth re-exploring again but I wasn’t a huge fan of the book on which the last one was based.
“I thought it was more out of date than the others so I [...]

Of all the directors out there that I would put in charge of reviving the Jack Ryan franchise, by producing and directing the films, I have to say that Sam Raimi’s name wouldn’t exactly be at the top of the list. In fact, I wouldn’t have Raimi’s name anywhere on the list. Nothing against Sam, because he’s a vastly talented director, but hearing the name Sam Raimi in conjunction with the Jack Ryan franchise is pretty odd. But lo and behold, it’s happened: Paramount is set to revive the franchise by rebooting it (what, you shocked?), and they are currently in negotiations with Sam Raimi to produce and direct the films.
More:
Ryan is the cerebral CIA analyst who climbed the political ladder and became an Everyman action hero star in a quartet of films spearheaded by producer Mace Neufeld. Alec Baldwin originated Ryan in 1990’s “The Hunt for Red October” and when Baldwin famously jumped ship to do “A Streetcar Named [...]

What a coincidence. I was just watching the first Jack Ryan movie, “The Hunt for Red October” on AMC earlier today, and really enjoyed it. I’ve actually seen the movie about a dozen times, and I’ve always stayed for the entire 3 hours (plus commercials) every single time I stumble across it; it’s that good. Now here’s word that Paramount, which owns the movie rights to the Jack Ryan character, is eyeing “City of God” director Fernando Meirelles to take over the project.
As you may know, a few days ago there were rumors that young Ryan Gosling was being approached to take over the role of Jack Ryan, originally played by Alec Baldwin in the aforementioned “The Hunt for Red October”, before Harrison Ford took over for two movies, and finally, Ben Affleck in “The Sum of All Fears”.
The latest incarnation of the Ryan story would be “By Any Means Necessary”, the first Jack Ryan movie to fly solo without [...]

They keep going younger and younger with the Jack Ryan character. But then again, I guess Hollywood has no Earthly idea what to do with anything except make it younger, which they’ve already done once with the Jack Ryan franchise (i.e. Ben Affleck taking over the role from Harrison Ford in “The Sum of All Fears”). Now rumor has Ryan Gosling taking over the Ryan role from Affleck.
The rumor comes from Moviehole:
Philip Noyce himself tells us that neither he or Harrison Ford are returning to the Jack Ryan series – but a new Jack Ryan movie is in the works… and it’ll star Ryan Gosling! (at least that’s what the filmmaker’s heard). Noyce WAS attached to direct “By Any Mean’s Necessary”, briefly last year, but he’s no longer involved.
Paramount, who has rights to the Jack Ryan character, has wanted to do “By Any Means Necessary”, the first Jack Ryan movie not based on one of Tom Clancy’s books, for a [...]
