I don’t know who got the idea that a Bollywood movie with the usual comedy and spontaneous (but incredibly choreographed) singing and dancing could work in the States, but by God, someone did in fact get that notion into their skull, and as such Nikhil Advani’s “Chandi Chowk to China” is getting a real media push on the Internet for its upcoming (though limited) U.S. release. The film has already shown up online at places like Yahoo! Movies, which is usually reserved for high-falutin’ International arthouse fare and Hollywood commercial junk. Now, more images from the film have been released, showing yet more wackiness as an Indian man goes to China to reclaim his Chinese kung fu heritage. Hilarity, as they say, ensue. (Plus spontaneous singing and dancing, of course.)
An action-comedy about a simple cook from Chandni Chowk mistaken for the reincarnation of an ancient peasant warrior Liu Shengh by residents of an oppressed Chinese village.

Is “Chandni Chowk to China” the greatest movie ever made, or is “Chandni Chowk to China” possibly the greatest movie ever made? Well okay, it’s probably not the greatest, that honor still goes to “The Hottie and the Nottie” (I vote Hottie!), but it’s pretty damn close. At least, judging by this trailer. The film is about an Indian (from India, not the Native American kind) nobody who is told he’s the reincarnation of a great Chinese warrior, and sent to China to save a village from bandits, or gangsters, or some such. You know, bad guys. He encounters a beautiful woman and much dancing and singing ensue. This is a Bollywood movie, after all. Not having singing and dancing in a Bollywood movie is like not having incest in an Art House movie from France.
