Quite possibly the most debated, hated, and derided movie of all time arrives on DVD in Blu-Ray and standard DVD July 28 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. The “Dragonball: Evolution” DVD (dubbed the “Z Edition”) will feature over an hour of extras, including eight deleted scenes and a gag reel. Plus, all the usual DVD specials like behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes. Cover art and specs for the DVD release below.
Based on one of the most popular Japanese manga series of all time, Dragonball: Evolution follows a young warrior on an epic adventure to discover his destiny…and save the world from the forces of darkness.
For his eighteenth birthday, mild-mannered Goku is given a mystical Dragonball, one of only seven in existence, which combine to grant a perfect wish to whoever possesses them. But an ancient warlord named Piccolo has escaped eternal imprisonment and is on his own quest to gather the Dragonballs. Goku must enlist the help of his friends—and [...]

James Wong’s live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga/anime “Dragonball” might just be the first movie to actually live up to the hype. Unfortunately for Wong and company, that hype was overwhelmingly negative. In all my years of covering movie news, “Dragonball: Evolution” might just qualify as the most derided and divisive movie of all time, splitting fans of the original property firmly into two camps: those that hates everything about the movie since Day 1, and those that wants to give it a chance, hoping against hope that it would turn out, if not good then at least not as Godawful as they feared. The result, alas, is somewhere in-between. While James Wong’s “Dragonball: Evolution” is not the worst movie ever made, it’s nevertheless amazing how little you can accomplish with $45 million dollars.
The film stars Justin Chatwin (“The Invisible) as Goku, an orphan raised since he was a toddler by his grandfather (Randall Duk Kim). Now [...]

So does this mean when Hannah Montana (aka Miley Cyrus) and her buddies made fun of Asian people in a photograph a few weeks ago, it didn’t affect her popularity with the kids anyway? It would appear that is indeed the case, because the Disney Channel princess has scored another hit on the big screen with “Hannah Montana The Movie”, beating out last week’s top dog “Fast & Furious” by $6 million with an impressive $34 million weekend debut. Now let this be a lesson to you: never, ever doubt the power of tweens to force their parents to do things they don’t want to do, like shell out money to see something in the theaters they could have seen for free on TV.
Justin Lin’s “Fast & Furious”, which last week claimed the box office crown, continues a strong showing at the theaters despite falling to second place in its second week. The car racing flick earned $28.7 million, giving [...]

This is your official discussion thread for what might just be the most wildly discussed, dissed, and dissected movie of 2009. Who knew a kid with spikey hair would elicit such a variety of responses? So did you see it? And if you did, what did you think?

See, what you kids don’t get about the Dragonball power is that it’s not all about shooting glowing balls out of your hands at evil aliens from outer space, you can use it to get Chow Yun Fat to act like a total goofball and tell you about wacky prophecies, fight angry black guys with sticks, and impress hot chicks at your school by blasting open every locker in the place. Cause, you know, chicks dig that sort of stuff. Three new “Dragonball: Evolution” clips for your gawking pleasure after the jump.
The young warrior Son Goku (Justin Chatwin) sets out on a quest, racing against time and the vengeful King Piccolo (James Marsters0, to collect a set of seven magical orbs that will grant their wielder unlimited power.

Premature sequel talk didn’t start with Abrams’ “Star Trek” or “Dragonball”, and it certainly won’t end with them. To be honest with you, I don’t know who starts these things, but invariably any movie with a franchise-ready premise has approached their opening weekend preceded by talks of possible sequels. The latest sequel talk concerns James Wong’s “Dragonball: Evolution”, which has people whispering the word “franchise” as it nears its April 10 opening.
Well, at least the cast and crew are talking about it, though I haven’t actually heard anyone (i.e. the fans) clamoring for a sequel already, especially the regulars in our “Dragonball” comments section. Of course, it probably doesn’t help that early reviews for the movie out of Asia have been, to put it kindly, devastatingly (and predictably) horrendous.
But that’s not going to stop star Justin Chatwin, who told MTV the following:
“I know they’ve written a second one and it’s pretty far out there,” actor Justin Chatwin told [...]

Via ReelzChannel, I believe there are new footage in this U.S. trailer for “Dragonball: Evolution”. I could be wrong, of course, since I’m too mesmerized by all the glowing balls to notice or compare this trailer with the International version that was released last month. They both kind of look the same, though I think this one has some motorcycle stuff that wasn’t in the first one. I think. Anyways, take a look and see for yourself. Opening narration by Chow Yun Fat still sounds stiff, but that probably can’t be helped.
Starring Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Emmy Rossum, and Chow Yun Fat. James Wong directs.
Get some balls April 8. 2009.

Hey look, Dragonball fans, it’s Goku, and he’s fighting with two guys! But don’t feel too sorry for these guys; they were probably trying to steal his cool four-wheel futuristic ATV vehicle or something equally bad guy-ish. Either that, or they were giving him “the eye”, and no one likes that, especially if your name is Goku and you have bedhead. Where was I? Oh right, I was sitting at home one day and it occurred to me, you Dragonball kids still don’t know how you feel about the upcoming Fox movie, so I thought I’d help you out by offering up even more images from “Dragonball: Evolution” to help you decide.
The young warrior Son Goku sets out on a quest, racing against time and the vengeful King Piccolo, to collect a set of seven magical orbs that will grant their wielder unlimited power.

I don’t know what kind of alien badass this Piccolo fellow is in the original Japanese anime and manga and what have you, but when the first footage from James Wong’s “Dragonball” leaked all over the Innerwebs like something that leaks, and ol Piccolo didn’t look nearly green enough, the fanbase got pretty riled up, more riled up over a color (or lack thereof) than I’ve ever seen. As a non-Dragonball fan, It was kind of disturbing, actually. Now I haven’t a clue if Wong and company went in and “green up” Piccolo for the finished movie (since retitled “Dragonball: Evolution”), but the baldy alien sure looks pretty green to me in these new behind-the-scenes photos featuring James Marsters as Piccolo and Eriko Tamura as Mai. Also, as an added bonus, Joon Park strikes a pose as Yamcha.
The story begins with Goku, who seeks out upon his adoptive grandfather Grandpa Gohan’s dying request to find the great Master Roshi and [...]

On the heels of the recent announcement of a title change for James Wong’s much-maligned “Dragonball” (”Evolution” was added) came the new trailer featuring the new spiffier title and now four new character posters have shown up on the Interwebs. Three are individual character posters, showing Justin Chatwin as Goku, the lead character, Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi, Emmy Rossum as Bulma, and a fourth poster with Goku surrounded by the movie’s lovely ladies. All the ladies love the Dragonballs.

Since “Dragonball’s” got a spiffy new subtitle, FOX has created a spiffy new trailer to show it off. And so — the latest trailer for “Dragonball”, complete with the new, added title. It doesn’t look half bad. That is, if you aren’t obsessed with the cartoons and comic books and toys and all the rest. If you were Joe Blow coming off the street, you might think this would make a decent Sunday morning viewing with your 7-year old kid. Then again, if you’re watching movies on Sundays with 7-year old kids, you might have bigger problems. Anyhoo, here’s the first official trailer for “Dragonball: Evolution”. Is it just me, or did they cram this thing with some very nice looking ass-kicking chicks? You go, girls.
The story begins with Goku, who seeks out upon his adoptive grandfather Grandpa Gohan’s dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls. Of which he has one, in order [...]
