Really, you expected this, right? Horror movies are like their mask-wearing, machete-wielding leading men — they just don’t know when to die. And they sure aren’t going anywhere when the first movie breaks the bank at the box office. So it’s no surprise that Platinum Dunes is already gearing up a sequel to their reboot of “Friday the 13th”, with the original writers back for more.
Says Risky Business over at THR:
Unlike the sophomore efforts of other franchises, the new “Friday” is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say. Jason Voorhees will be the villain, of course, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template.
The reason? The reboot drew from the first four pictures in the “Friday” series, and producers are said not to be keen on the plot elements of the half-dozen movies that followed. And [...]

$42.4 million. That’s how much Platinum Dunes’ remake of “Friday the 13th” took in at the box office in its debut weekend. That’s more than any horror movie has opened in, like, ever. Hard to believe, but horror movies just don’t open that big, even the gimmicky “Saw” films on Halloween, when you’d think its audience was ready and prime for a horror show. The previous record holder was the remake of “The Grudge”, which opened just south of $40 million. Obviously, you know what this means: producers will be snatching up every little dinky horror movie they can find from the ’70s and ’80s to remake.
Last week’s #1, the romcom “He’s Just Not That Into You” landed at second place with $19.6 million, while Liam Neeson’s actioner “Taken” remains strong at #3 with another $19 million, good for a three-week total of almost $78 million. I haven’t checked the record books or anything, but I’m almost sure this is [...]

2009’s “Friday the 13th” is less a reboot of the franchise as it is a pseudo sequel to the 1980 original, with the film’s plot going about business as if the 200 or so “Friday the 13th” sequels that proceeded the 1980 original never happened. In this parallel world, Jason the machete wielding maniac has not been terrorizing stupid and promiscuous teens for the last two decades or so since his dear mum met her demise at the hands of a capable Crystal Lake camp counselor, but instead has been hiding away in the old Crystal Lake campgrounds tinkering away his time and jealously guarding his uber weed stash. Jason’s killer instincts surfaces when the usual crop of drugs and sex-crazed teens invade his territory, forcing the masked woodsman to take out the garbage with extreme prejudice.
After a brief flashback that essentially recreates the ending of the 1980 original, the 2009 incarnation begins with Whitney Miller (Amanda Righetti), who has [...]

It’s not Friday, or February 13 yet, but that isn’t going to stop us from giving you even more images from the upcoming “Friday the 13th” remake. The chances of this thing not making a mint at the box office is pretty low, especially in light of the “My Bloody Valentine” remake doing a cool $21 million in its opening weekend, and who even remembers that movie? “Friday the 13th’s” got everything “Valentine” didn’t, most notably name recognition, so don’t expect anyone to take Jason Voorhees down when it opens next month. This thing is gonna be a monster with the boys, while most of the girls (and some of the boys, ahem) will probably take in “Confessions of a Shopaholic”, the only film that will be opening opposite “Friday”. It’s called counter-programming, doncha know.
Unstoppable masked killer Jason Voorhees returns to kill more promiscuous teens in this contemporary remake of the classic horror movie. Whitney (Amanda Righetti), Jenna (Danielle Panabaker), [...]

New gallery additions for this Friday include enough new stills fromthe Michael Bay-produced “Friday the 13th” remake that it’ll make even Jason Voorhees’ mother cry out with jealousy, a couple of more possessive images from Sarah Michelle Gellar’s long-delayed “Possession”, a new, decidedly uninteresting still from Benicio Del Toro’s “The Wolfman”, and just because there hasn’t been nearly enough fan backlash for it yet, even more odd images from “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li”. And finally, a new gallery is created for Will Ferrell’s comedy “Land of the Lost”, which I hear is a comedy with men in rubber suits. That’s always funny, right? Eh.

According to these new images from the Michael Bay-produced “Friday the 13th” remake, this movie is going to be pretty violent. Now call me crazy, but that’s just what my hunch tells me, and it’s never failed me before. Well, there was that one time, when I was a kid, that we now refer to as The Incident. But ther than that, my hunch is usually dead-on. Especially about this upcoming remake. In the remake, Jason Voorhees puts on a mask and kills people and junk.
nstoppable masked killer Jason Voorhees returns to kill more promiscuous teens in this contemporary remake of the classic horror movie. Whitney (Amanda Righetti), Jenna (Danielle Panabaker), Trent (Travis VanWinkle), and the other counslers at Camp Crystal Lake find themselves hunted down by a machete weilding maniac known as Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears). Meanwhile Whitney’s brother Clay (Jared Padalecki) shows up looking for her, after she goes missing.

What does Matt Damon conspiring on a toilet, a machete-wielding maniac, a gun-toting Kate Beckinsale, and some dead kids have in common? They’re all new images from Warner Bros.’ upcoming slate of 2009 movies. Towards the end of every year, the major studios send out a big ol list of movies we can expect for the following year, along with synopsis and some (usually) new images for those movies. Columbia Pictures already came out with theirs, and Warner Bros. has followed suit. I would list them all, complete with the pics, but that would be tedious and let’s face it, how many of you are going to be rushing out to see the latest romcom starring Zac Frakkin Efron? So, here are some new images from some movies that you may care about, in so far that you probably won’t bleed from the eyes upon seeing them, although I’m not promising nuthin’.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m watching one of these typical slasher movies, the first thing that pops into my head is, “Man, how come there isn’t an Asian dude (or chick) to get cut in half like all these white faces? Hollywood is so damn racist! Asian guys can die in remarkably stupid and nonsensical ways just like white people, you know!” Apparently the makers of the upcoming “Friday the 13th” remake feels exactly the same way, because one look at the cast of their movie reveals a racially balanced crew of spam — er, I mean, hearty group of characters that will be taking on the new (and one presumes, improved) Jason Voorhees.

You can’t keep a good killing machine down, especially if he has a machete to work with, which explains why Jason Voorhees is back to hack some horny teens courtesy of New Line Cinema and the boyos over at Platinum Dunes. The 2009 remake stars Jared Padalecki, one half of the Supernatural brotherhood, and is directed by Marcus Nispel, who directed Platinum Dunes’ remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. If the trailers are any indication, this is sure to be good horny teen hacking fun. If you’re into that sort of thing, that is. Heck, they were even kind enough to throw in a Token Black Guy just to lend some sass to the white people spam count! How cute.

You can’t keep a good machete-wielding masked maniac down. Jason Voorhees is on the loose again, and he’s looking to chop up a couple of nice, young, nubile, and preferably very nekkid 20-something actresses masquerading as teens in the “Friday the 13th” remake, coming soon to a theater near you. Yesterday we posted a teaser trailer that was shown at the Scream 2008 Awards, and today the powers that be have released the official trailer for the remake. This isn’t the same one shown at the Awards show, but a new version, complete with motherly (and very helpful, I might add) voiceover.
Returning to the story that started it all, this “re-imagining” of the original Friday The 13th heads back to summer camp where a mysterious killer is systematically slaughtering the teenage camp counselors.
Crazy, horny teenage camp counselors. Won’t they ever learn?

If you were watching something called the Scream 2008 Awards last night, then you might have caught the first-ever broadcast of the teaser trailer for the “Friday the 13th” remake. In the remake, 20-something people go into a dark cabin and get sliced and diced by some dude in a hockey mask. I think the 20-somethings also have sex in the lake and surrounding woods. If we’re lucky, anyway. Anyhoo, teaser trailer for the “Friday the 13th” remake, brought to you by the same people who gave us the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remake. Up next, a live-action remake of the classic, “Popeye: The Spinach Strikes Back” episode.
Whitney (Amanda Righetti), Clay (Jared Padalecki), Mike (Nick Mennell), Jenna (Danielle Panabaker), Trent (Travis VanWinkle) and other young adults end up exploring the old Camp Crystal Lake (made famous by the original 1980 film). Soon enough however their seemingly fun weekend turns into a nightmare when each one finds themselves hunted down by a [...]

I’m not sure how you diehard horror fiends out there are viewing this Michael Bay remake of “Friday the 13th”, but as a cursory fan of the franchise (the last one I saw was “Jason X”, and that was only because Lexa Doig was in it, and she’s real purty) I don’t mind it all that much. Now, the whole shebang they got going with remaking “A Nightmare on Elm Street” — man, that really chaps my hide. But let’s save that rant for another day. Some site name HorrorBid has gotten some behind-the-scenes pics from the set of the “Friday the 13th” remake, and they reveal what Jason Voorhees looks like behind that hockey mask. As it turns out, wearing the mask wasn’t just about a sense of fashion. Who would have thunk it?
Pictures from HorrorBid. Head over there for more pics.

You know, of all the horror franchises, “Friday the 13th” was always the one I never really paid all that much attention to. It always came across as lacking creativity to me. Basically, horny kids go to the lake, get killed. The End. Then again, the only sequel in the franchise that I was even remotely interested in seeing was Jason X, the one where Jason goes into outer space. I thought that would be funny; it usually is when horror franchises head into outer space. Anyways, as you probably already know, Michael Bay is producing a remake of “Friday the 13th”, and it’s got itself a lot of “young fresh faces” (i.e. MTV and CW crowd, this is your movie!) in the cast, and should sell tickets to the horror kiddies out there.
Here are two behind-the-scenes videos from the movie to get you excited. That is, unless you don’t care about horror flicks, in which case you should go [...]

Hey look, kids, it’s a script review for a horror movie! And not just any horror movie, but the upcoming Michael Bay-produced remake of “Friday the 13th” to boot. Yup, you know, the one with the big guy in a hockey mask and machete going around chopping up promiscuous young ladies, thus making it harder for the rest of us normal males to get lucky in a creepy lake at night? Yup, that guy. Anyways, reader B. Monkey just sent over a review of the script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, and he seems to really dig it. He says there are MINOR SPOILERS in his review, so be forewarned.

Script Review of “Friday the 13th” Remake by B. Monkey:
Hey Nix,
I’ve got a nice little surprise for you and your readers in the form of a script review. What blueprint for what highly anticipated upcoming film am I about to spill my thoughts about? Hold on a sec. Rather [...]

I believe this is our very first look at an image from Sam Raimi’s upcoming “Drag Me to Hell”, his return to small-budget horror moviemaking (how small? I don’t know; but let’s face it, after the gazillion dollars of the “Spider-Man” film, he could make a movie for $50 million and it would still qualify as “low-budget”). It’s also our first looks at David Goyer’s “The Unborn”, with Gary Oldman and the hot girl from “Cloverfield”, as well as “Quarantine”, the zombie movie remake of the Spanish zombie movie called “REC”, which is already gearing up a sequel.
Raimi (Spider-Man) returns to his horror roots (The Evil Dead). Lohman (White Oleander) plays a loan officer who won’t give one to an old lady (Raver) and gets hexed for her heartlessness. ”She makes one bad choice, then she spends the next 80 minutes overpaying for it,” Raimi says.
Starring Alison Lohman, Justin Long, and Jessica Lucas.

Producer Michael Bay’s “Friday the 13th” remake just keeps rolling along, this time adding three new names to the cast: Danielle Panabaker (pictured, below), Aaron Yoo (pictured, left), and Jonathan Sadowski. Panabaker is most known to fans of TV’s Shark show with James Woods, where she plays the daughter of Woods’ character, says Yahoo! News. Aaron Yoo was Shia LaBeouf’s sidekick in “Disturbia”. They join a cast that already includes Jared Padalecki from TV’s Supernatural and Amanda Righetti from The OC. Basically, Bay and company are casting this thing with TV actors to keep down the cost.
More:
Panabaker will play an adventurous, athletic type, whose boyfriend (played by Travis van Winkle, “Meet the Spartans”) is a rich alpha-male type.
Also joining the cast like lambs to the slaughter are Aaron Yoo (”Disturbia”), as a quirky guy who has a tendency to wear his attraction to pretty girls on his sleeve, and Jonathan Sadowski (the upcoming “Spring Breakdown”) as a techie who knows [...]

You know, I’m glad I never really “got into” a lot of the horror franchises out there, or I would be apoplectic about all the totally unnecessary franchise remakes, reboots, re-imaginings, or what have you that is currently going on. Of all the franchises, I’m only really invested in “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, having been scared witless by the films when I was a kid (and actually, they were the only horror franchise I sought out, actually having seen ALL the installments in theaters). And yes, I am peeved they are remaking it, but whatever, Hollywood. In any case, about the “Friday the 13th” remake. Amanda Righetti (pictured left, The OC) has joined the cast, possibly as the Final Girl.
More:
Amanda Righetti is in final negotiations to play the female lead in the Michael Bay-produced remake of “Friday the 13th,” directed by Marcus Nispel. Lensing will begin April 21 in Austin, Texas. Righetti also recently joined the cast of CBS [...]

Michael Bay’s planned remake of “Friday the 13th” landed its leading man a few days ago with Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki, and now it’s found its Jason Voorhees — a stuntman named Derek Mears (pictured, left). Not surprisingly, Mears, with that, um, face (no offense, Derek), has spent time on TV and movies playing prisoners, werewolves, and cannibalistic mountain dwellers. Now he’ll pick up the hatchet and go to town on some horny teens at Crystal Lake. Hey, they had it coming, anyway.
More:
This morning we received exclusive intel – which has been confirmed – that Derek Mears (picture inside; The Hills Have Eyes 2, Cursed) is in final talks to play Jason Voorhees in the remake of Friday the 13th for Platinum Dunes, New Line Cinema, MTV and Paramount Pictures. We have also been informed that he is in fact going to be the new Jason, it’s just a matter of time until everything is finalized.
Marcus Nispel will direct, with a [...]

Not content to just fight demons, vampires, and other assorted supernatural creatures of the night on the CW’s Supernatural TV show, Jared Padalecki is currently in negotiations to do it on the big screen — by headlining the cast of Michael Bay’s upcoming “Friday the 13th” reboot. And why not? Considering the plot (below), it definitely looks like Padalecki will be in familiar territory — as someone investigating Jason’s crime spree at Crystal Lake. You know, just like Sam Winchester, minus Dean.
More:
Paramount released the original “Friday” in 1980, introducing horror icon Jason with a brief appearance. The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake.
Marcus Nispel will direct the reboot for Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.
