If you like genre television, then you’re going to love FOX come 2009, because the network has packed its schedule with new shows from fanboy-favorite names like Joss Whedon (he’s got Dollhouse with Eliza Dushku) and J.J. Abrams (Fringe with, er, that guy from Dawson’s Creek). Plus, there are a couple of returning favorites, like the sophomore season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and the fourth season of the serialized Prison Break. They’re still, er, running, I think.
From FOX’s press release, starting with their two new high-profile shows:
FRINGE (Tuesdays, 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT): From J.J. Abrams (”Lost”), Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the team behind “Star Trek,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “Alias,” comes a new drama that will thrill, terrify and explore the blurring line between science fiction and reality. When an international flight lands at Boston’s Logan Airport and the passengers and crew have all died grisly deaths, FBI Special Agent OLIVIA DUNHAM (newcomer Anna Torv) is called [...]

J.J. Abrams may be busy with a lot of projects right now (Star Trek, that Cloverfield thing, Lost), but that won’t stop him from bringing yet another TV series to FOX. The Bad Robot head honcho’s latest creation is a supernatural TV show called “Fringe”, which according to Variety, will “mixes elements of “The X-Files” and Paddy Chayefsky’s “Altered States” with what Abrams calls “a slight ‘Twilight Zone’ vibe.” Whatever that means. I’m guessing it’ll just be freaky and whatnot. The project is the braindchild of Abrams and his Star Trek 11 writers, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, Hollywood’s newest “It” screenwriting duo, with everything from Trek 11 to the Transformers sequel on their plate.
More about the show:
“Fringe” mixes elements of “The X-Files” and Paddy Chayefsky’s “Altered States” with what Abrams calls “a slight ‘Twilight Zone’ vibe.” It will focus on brilliant but possibly crazy research scientist Walter Bishop, his estranged son and a female FBI agent who brings them [...]
