Although Korean horror films have for the most part been an uninspired lot over the last couple of years, there have still been a few flashes of creativity, enough so to keep genre fans hoping, holding out for something truly special. Simply put, “The Guard Post 506”, the second effort from Kong Su Chang, director of the excellent military themed “R-Point”, is that film, a nerve-wracking, determinedly adult slice of fear which makes all the waiting and suffering through endless tales of depressingly similar vengeful female ghosts worthwhile. Deservedly, the film also scored big at the box office, following in the footsteps of “R-Point”, which was the highest grossing domestic horror hit of 2004, by entering the top ten at the number one spot. This success has led to an international release, with the film now arriving on DVD via The Associates.
The film is set in the titular outpost in the demilitarised zone, where Sergeant Major Noh Seong Gyu [...]

For the longest time, I always thought of the upcoming South Korean horror movie “GP 506″ as a ghost movie, when instead it’s … a zombie movie? That’s what it’s starting to sound like. Which, if you were wondering, I’m liking even more. Because let’s face it, how many more movies about haunted buildings and cursed inanimate objects can one really take before swearing off the Asian horror movie industry altogether? Exactly. More about “GP 506″, including a new poster and images below.
Here is the very zombie-esque plot description (via):
The plot concerns Guard Point 506, where an entire squad of soldiers have been killed in mysterious circumstances, bar one survivor who’s in a coma. Military Investigators are dispatched to the base, and discover they’re dealing with a virus that turns humans into ravenous flesh-eating killers!

We’ve heard stories about the production being halted due to financial worries, we’ve seen stills from the movie, and now, we’ve finally gotten the teaser trailer for the South Korean military-themed horror film “GP506″! I have to admit, after seeing the trailer (which is very cool, by the way), it reminds me a bit of Rob Green’s World War II-themed horror film “The Bunker”. See for yourself.
This being a South Korean movie set at the DMZ, I’m guessing the “horror” is really about the separation between North and South Korea. Or something to that affect. I could be wrong, of course…

Finally, something new about the latest Korean/military horror movie “GP 506″, which last we heard, was in production trouble. Apparently not so much. Via 24Framespersecond.net, a Korean site has a pretty big gallery of “GP 506″ production stills, as well as some behind-the-scenes stuff. If you like Korean horror, this one sounds very gory and brutal, and none of that long hair ghost crap.
A strange multiple murder case was just occurred. A squad of soldiers from guard point 506 has been brutally killed, all except one. Every body was either crushed, or had their heads cut from their neck. The only survivor is in coma and the case is a complete mystery. Military investigator (Chun Ho Jin) is dispatched. When he arrives it soon becomes apparent this is no ordinary investigation, he is confronted by the discovery that a strange virus is turning soldiers into Zombie like killers…!

Korean director Su-chang Kong doesn’t like the military; either that, or he really just doesn’t like the military. Um, wait, that’s the same thing. Anyways, I came to that conclusion only because, in his movies, solders tend to get killed in very gruesome ways. Take, for example, Kong’s last military horror movie, the Vietnam-era “R-Point”. Now Kong is back again to find more fiendish ways to kill Korean soldiers in the new horror movie “GP 506″, about soldiers at the DMZ being killed by a supernatural force that — gasp — turns soldiers into zombie killers! Or something like that.
Here’s one synopsis for very confusing-sounding “GP 506″ from here:
GP506. A lonely guard post (GP) is the site of a series of mysterious events that lead a group of soldiers to the conclusion that it is haunted and their lives may be in grave danger. Cheon Ho-jin (Crying Fist, Blood Rain) gets top billing in this horror/drama/thriller from Motise Film. The [...]
