On the heels of solid news that the “Green Lantern” movie has moved out of Oz to pursue cheaper shooting locations closer to home, there’s this not-so-solid news that Jackie Earle Haley, the new Freddy Krueger in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” reboot (and before that, gritty vigilante Rorschach in “Watchmen”) is currently the front runner to play the villain Sinestro in “Green Lantern”.
The news comes from AICN, and the source is apparently quite reliable. Everything else, eh, grain of salt and all that.
So, Jackie Earle Haley as Sinestro? Haley is a good actor (some might say, great), but he’s not Sinestro. For one, Haley is a tad on the Tom Cruise side — as in, short. Sinestro can’t be a short guy; he has to be tall, regal looking, stuffy and always lording his superiority over you. Granted, they can do lots with camera angles and special effects nowadays, just look at the “Lord of the Rings” [...]

The question is, how does this affect the upcoming shooting schedule of “Green Lantern”? That’s open to discussion, though there would be some delay, as the film was supposed to shoot in November in Australia. Instead, Martin Campbell and the Warner Bros. gang will be moving the production of the big-budgeted “Green Lantern” to either Canada or Mexico, thanks to the falling dollar, which would have added an additional $20 million to the budget had it remained Down Under.
The D.C. comic book film, set to star Ryan Reynolds as the intergalactic space hero with a penchant for green and an aversion to yellow, was scheduled for a Summer 2011 bow. That’s still nearly two years away, so while production will be inevitably delayed somewhat, I don’t see the release date changing because of the last-minute location switch.

Not content to just mouth off as a superpowered merc or patrol the spaceways as an interstellar cop with yellow issues, Ryan Reynolds is currently in negotiations to board the action movie “Motorcade” for
DreamWorks. Variety calls the movie a “drama”, but how can it possibly be a drama and not an action movie with a premise like this: Reynolds would play a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the U.S. president is kidnapped in New York.
Come on, that screams action thriller! Or at least, “24″-esque.
Which probably makes sense that Dreamworks has assigned former “24″ director/producer Jon Cassar to helm the project, taking over for Len Wiseman (”Live Free or Die Hard” and the “Underworld” films), who was attached to the movie a while back (with Tom Cruise interested, natch), but has since left for greener pastures. Hans Bauer and Craig Mitchell originally wrote the screnplay, though the awesomely [...]

As expected, when Ryan Reynolds slips on the green tights in 2010 to play Green Lantern, protector of the spaceways and creator of cartoony green hammers with his mind, he’ll be facing Sinestro as his first foe. Or is he? As you’ll recall from the comics (and even the recent “Green Lantern: First flight” animated movie), ol Sinestro wasn’t always evil, though looking back, you sort of wonder what choice the poor dude had. His name was Sinestro, after all, and he did have an evil looking mustache, for crying out loud. Talk about telegraphing it!
Anyways, from a recent castling list unearthed by SpoilerTV, it looks like Sinestro won’t be the only (potential) villain facing our hero. Green Lantern will also be confronted with a more Earth-based villain in one Doctor Hector Hammond. Who is Hector Hammond?

Okay, not really, but according to Bradley Cooper, who sounds like an affable bloke if this Conan O’Brien Show interview is any indication, said his attempts to impersonate Bale’s Batman (growling voice and all) during his Green Lantern audition was what sunk him and gave the part to Ryan Reynolds. Of course, he could just be lying through his teeth, or greatly exaggerating the story, which seems more likely. Celebrities tend to do that on interviews for effect, since they’re always required to have one great story to tell. Plus, he also talks a little something about “The A-Team”.

The Hollywood Reporter’s got a big rundown of all the upcoming and in-the-pipeline movies from D.C. Comics, including the publishing house’s idea of putting three of its biggest writers, Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman on some of the properties to get them moving again with a fresh spin. They also mention that a live-action “Aquaman” movie is currently in development over at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way shingle. But wait, fans of “Aquaman”, I wouldn’t get too excited about that. DiCaprio’s company is producing about five billion geek-friendly movies at the moment, and I don’t think a single one of them has ever actually gotten made. I could be wrong, of course.
Other D.C. films that are currently in the pipeline includes the much-delayed “Flash” movie, with Geoff Johns doing another treatment on the film, which originally boasted a script by Dan Mazeau. No word on what projects Morrison and Wolfman are working on over at Warner Bros., where all [...]

We went into Friday hearing that Warner Bros. had three final candidates to play their Green Lantern, in what is sure to be a big-budget epic production. Later that day, news came out that WB had indeed chosen their emerald warrior — and he is Ryan Reynolds. I can’t say I’m surprised, or disappointed, because Reynolds would have been my choice as well. I’m just not sure how signing on to another franchise role will affect Reynolds’ “Deadpool” movie, if any.
In any case, according to Variety, Reynolds was the choice for director Martin Campbell and the suits at Warner Bros. The other top two contenders had been Bradley Cooper (who I thought might be too old for the role, or at least, looks too old) and Justin Timberlake, who might be too, well, cast him if you want the fanboys to avoid this thing like the plague, that’s all I’m saying.
So they chose Ryan Reynolds, and I have to say, [...]

Wait, what? Justin Timberlake? The former ‘N-Sync singer? That Justin Timberlake? Sure, he showed some comedy chops in a couple of Saturday Night Live skits, and sure, he did some indie films like “Alpha Dog” and “Black Snake Moan”, but come on — Justin Timberlake is in the running to play Green Lantern for Warner Bros.? Seriously? This isn’t just some silly rumor some site made up to get some traffic? Oh dear. Well, at least the other two frontrunners are Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds. At least there’s a 66% chance the studio won’t pick a former boy band to front their $200 million dollar comic book movie.
The news comes from THR, who reports that Warner Bros. and director Martin Campbell are currently under the gun to cast one of the three names mentioned above. Apparently screen tests were done with a lot of Hollywood’s leading men, and Cooper, Reynolds, and Timberlake came out the clear frontrunners. The problem? [...]

Good God, is there a big-budget summer event film that Hollywood is currently doing that Aussie boy turned good Sam Worthington isn’t rumored to be in or already attached to? Mind you, dude looks like a fine chap, so it’s not like I’m complaining. More power to him. The latest role ol Sammy’s attached to in some capacity or another is Warner Bros.’ live-action adaptation of the D.C. comic book “Green Lantern”. From the sounds of it, Worthington is really considering the project, and if he says Yes, what’s to prevent WB from going with him? This guy’s about to blow up like no actor has ever blown up before in Hollywood.
In an interview with Moviehole, Worthington said this in regards to the role:
‘’I’ve been talking to (director) Martin Campbell about it. It’s one of those things where they’re still doing the script. I said, “Give me a script. Let me have a look at it.” I like Martin a [...]

So I guess there is a reason why Warner Bros. and director Martin Campbell don’t appear to be in any hurry to cast their leading man. According to Box Office Mojo, it could be that the release date for “Green Lantern” has been delayed for six more months, so now instead of a late 2010 release, the comic book movie will instead bow in the Summer of 2011. Which, actually, would make more sense. Why would you release a big-budget comic book movie in December? Summer is the way to go. Lots more kids to buy popcorn.
Nothing else to say, except here’s a quick rundown of the character’s bio (thanks, Wiki):
Each Green Lantern possesses a power ring that gives the user great control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. He’s an actor, and he’s got the comedy “The Hangover” coming out this summer, and according to the blokes at Hitfix, he’s “one of the guys most likely to don the suit and slip on the power ring as The Green Lantern”.
The sure-to-be-huge film from Warner Bros. is being directed by Martin Campbell of James Bond and Zorro fame, and is scheduled to commence production sometime this Summer for a 2010 release. Which means, of course, they best get their cast together real quick. Or at the least, hire the friggin’ guy whose gonna play Hal Jordan already. Geez, is it that hard to get someone to play a comic book hero? What’s with all the delays?

For such a lame comic book character, it’s amazing the attention that’s being paid to the casting of Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Green Lantern” movie. Of course, the fact that a new website is throwing out a new “frontrunner” for the role every other week helps to keep the rumor mill spinning. The latest “frontrunner”? “Star Trek’s” Chris Pine and “Terminator Salvation’s” Sam Worthington.
Via Trekweb:
Pine would play Hal Jordan, a pilot who finds a powerful ring and its lantern-like battery when a spaceship crashes on Earth. Jordan is selected to succeed the craft’s dying occupant as the next Green Lantern, a galactic guardian who is a member of an interstellar corps, the site reported, citing an anonymous source.
The movie has reportedly set up production offices and is on track to start shooting in September in Australia for the previously announced December 17, 2010 release date.
Chris Pine would make a decent Hal Jordan, but Sam Worthington? I don’t see it. Although [...]

According to actor Anton Yelchin, recently rumored to be up for not just a part, but the part in the upcoming “Green Lantern” movie, he may be “too young” to play the character. I have to agree with young Mr. Anton (he turns 20 later this month), he is way too young for the role. There is “going younger” with a franchise, and then there is going bonkers. Casting a now-19 year old would be the latter.
Yelchin told SciFiWire this during press junkets for “Terminator Salvation”, where he plays the appropriately young Kyle Reese:
“I had no idea about that… I have no clue. I have no idea. I think I’m probably too young. I mean, no ones approached me, no one’s said anything to me. So I imagine I’m just too young. I mean, it’s a great character but i don’t know anything about it. … I haven’t heard anything about it.”
Hey, Anton, it was nice just to be rumored, [...]

The boys over at Latino Review are hearing rumblings from their sources within the hollow halls of them fancy movie studios, and they’re hearing a lot of names being dropped as potential Hal Jordans in the upcoming “Green Lantern” movie, since scheduled for a 2010 bow. Among the names being bandied about: Sam Worthington, Ryan Gosling, Emile Hirsch, and … Chekov?
Well not Chekov exactly, but the guy playing him in the J.J. Abrams “Star Trek” reboot, Anton Yelchin, who is also playing a young Kyle Reese in McG’s upcoming “Terminator Salvation”. Or at least, that’s according to LR, who says all the other actors have since turned down the role, with the much-in-demand Worthington tied up with the “Clash of the Titans” remake, which is itself scheduled for 2010.
So … Anton Yelchin? That’s him below. Are they really going THAT young with the character? Who would let this kid touch their plane? Or did Hal Jordan trade in his test [...]

Holy mackeral. If you love comic books, and you love comic book movies, you’re gonna be loving the heck out of 2010. Not only is Marvel Studios releasing “Iron Man 2″ and “Thor” in the same year, but Warner Bros. has just announced that 2010 will also see the release of the long in gestation “Green Lantern” movie (December 17th, 2010), as well as “Jonah Hex” (August 6, 2010) with Josh Brolin. Plus, that other green guy, “Green Hornet”, will also be hitting theaters in 2010. But wait, there’s more!
Besides those five movies, IGN (via) has 2010 also seeing the release of Louis Letterrier’s remake of “Clash of the Titans”, which has been scheduled for March 2010. Plus, remember that Christopher Nolan guy? Well he’s got a new movie called “Inception” that’s also planned for a July 16, 2010 release. And there’s also Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” (described as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns”) which is headed to theaters [...]

In case you haven’t gotten enough of casting rumors about comic book characters yet, you’re in luck, buckaroos, because here’s another one: word has it that actor Ryan Gosling is Warner Bros’ number one choice to play the lead in their sure-to-be huge budgeted adaptation of the Green Lantern comic book character. You remember Green Lantern, right? The guy in the green suit with the super powerful green ring that can do anything you can dream off, but, er, for some reason, can’t do squat against anything with the yellow in it? Yeah, that dude. Apparently Gosling is exactly the right age for the Hal Jordan character, who is 27 in the script WB is said to be using for their movie.
This movie rumor comes to you courtesy of the boys at Latino Review:
You know who the studio wants to wear Abin Sur’s ring and take up the mantle of The Green Lantern?
From my trusted source within the WB, I’m [...]

The last time we heard about any movement on the “Green Lantern” movie, it was last year, when Warner Bros. assigned Everwood guy Greg Berlanti to write and direct the movie. Well, that was last year. We haven’t heard a thing about the movie since, although we did hear about the character, who was supposed to take part in the now-defunct “Justice League” movie. The latest (re: only) news from the movie is from Production Weekly, which lists the film as currently in “development”, with Berlanti still attached to write, but not direct.

I gotta tell you, I’m so sick and tired of news that two-bit comedy actors are being given properties from my childhood to “re-invent” without any regards to the tradition of said properties. I’ve already made it clear my distaste for the Green Hornet movie in the hands of a second-tier actor like Seth Rogen, and when news that Jack Black was going to be handling “Green Lantern”, I was obviously displeased. Black can be funny in the right parts, but dear God, don’t let him touch the Green Lantern. Thankfully, I can report that he won’t be.
CHUD recently talked with “Green Lantern” producer Donald De Line, who tells them that Jack Black is off the project.
First off, Green Lantern fans don’t need to worry – De Line confirmed that Jack Black is no longer attached, and that this version will not be comedic. He says that it’ll be the origin story of Hal Jordan, with all the heroics [...]
