Never underestimate the power of cuddly live-action talking guinea pigs. Jerry Bruckheimer didn’t, and after his “G-Forced” opened at #1 over the weekend (according to studio estimates), I think we can safely say that the man is a genius. Okay, maybe not a genius, but he certainly knows what people want to see, and tiny, secret agent guinea pigs was it this time around. “G-Force” made its debut at the top of the box office with a $32 million haul, beating out the second weekend of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” for the top honors, but only by a pair of whiskers — or $2 million. The sixth “Potter” movie brought in another $30 million, giving it a 2-week total of $222 million so far.
The week’s other new release, the Gerard Butler-Katherine Heigl romantic comedy “The Ugly Truth” scored a pretty handsome $27 million in its debut, while the horror movie “Orphan” shocked audiences to the tune of $12.7 [...]

Harry and his fellow wizards should have give the kids more time to miss them more often, if this week’s box office take for the film, the sixth in the franchise, is any indication. “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” proves that absence makes the heart grow fonder, as the film, opening two years after the last one, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, swooped in for the kill to the tune of $159 million in five days of release, according to studio estimates. That’s the second biggest 5-day Wednesday opening, bested only by Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” earlier this Summer.
The $159 million it scored at the U.S. box office, combined with the $237 million it took in in overseas markets in the same time period, gives “Half-Blood Prince” a total of $396 million in just five days of release. At this rate, the film should easily overtake the $300 million mark at the Stateside [...]

Not sure what’s happening in the latest “Harry Potter” movie, but my guess it it involves magic, bad guys using magic for evil purposes, and Harry, Hermione, and Ron trying to stop them from their bad guy evil deeds and such. You know, the usual. Plus, Harry is all grown up and making moves on girls, and it’s apparently not Hermione. I always thought those two crazy kids would get together, but twas not to be, alas. Five new posters for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” below.
As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort’s dark past.
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, Robbie Coltrane, Bonnie Wright, Jessie Cave, Maggie Smith, Minerva McGonagall, Tom Felton, and directed by David Yates.

MTV is throwing a big shindig over at MTVland today, and you can catch it live on MTV, of course. Along with giving irrelevant popcorn awards buckets to people who’ll probably just use them as paper weights, the channel will be debuting a slew of exclusive clips and trailers, including the first-ever trailer for “Twilight New Moon” and clips from “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra”, “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen”, and the latest “Harry Potter” movie. We’ll be adding those clips to this post as the clips themselves arrive online.
Up first, a clip from “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra”:

In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, the sixth chapter in the franchise, Harry and his buddies Hermione and Ron learn about girls and even get to make out with them. Well except for Hermione, being that she’s a girl and all, unless she rolls that way and we weren’t told about it. Anyhoo. Here’s the third trailer for ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, directed by David Yates, who directed “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and will also helm the seventh and final installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows”, which was apparently so good they cut it up into two pieces ala “Kill Bill”.

Six new character posters for that Potter kid and his latest battle with the forces of darkness. I’m talking of course about homework. Hey, even kid wizards get homework, right? It keeps them from going out and playing that thing with the broom and the ball and the whatever. Widgets. Or quibbits. Or whatever it’s called. As you can probably tell, my knowledge of the Harry Potter movies is astounding, if I do say so myself.

Bad news for all you “Harry Potter” fans out there: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” has been moved from its original late November 2008 opening date to Summer 2009. Or July 17, 2009, to be precise. Yup, that’s right, it’s time to go back to your DVD collections or bookamagigs and start reading, cause you ain’t gettin’ another Potter (his sixth, according to those who can do math) until 2009, you poor, poor literate buggers. But have no fear; Warner Bros. is saying that the delay is not because of any problems with production; far from it, in fact. The real reason? Well, they just think a Summer tentpole release is the way to go. I.e. more money.
The AP has your Harry Potter news:
The move was made to take advantage of an open weekend in Hollywood’s busy summer season, said Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer. The film had been on schedule, and the change was [...]

Check out it out, kids, Harry Potter gets freaky deaky dark in the latest Potter flick, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, if this first trailer for the movie is any indication. This thing actually looks more like a teen horror movie than a kiddie franchise about teen wizards that fly around on brooms and try to get dates for the wizard prom. They have wizard proms in the movies, right? Anyhoo. Return to Hogwarts for some fun in the sun. Or not. Looks more like return to Hogwarts for some dark groping time in the dungeons, but maybe that’s just me.
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as Harry begins his sixth year at Hogwarts, Lord Voldemort wreaks havoc throughout Britain, and the pressure to defeat him grows stronger. Using an old Potions book which previously belonged to the “Half-Blood Prince,” Harry is able to increase his magical knowledge and prepare for battle. First, however, he must help Dumbledore [...]

Wow, is it that time again? When the kids of the world (and those too old to be reading kiddie books among us, and you know who you are) wait with bated breath for the latest “Harry Potter” movie installment? Yup. November 21st brings back Harry Potter and the Hogwarts brood back to the big screen, where they will no doubt cast more ridiculous magic frabble jabba and ride around on brooms or something. (Can you tell I haven’t seen a single Harry Potter movie since the second one in 2002, and that I don’t even remember what happened in that one?)
Anyhoo. USA Today has more images from the movie (not your first look, those surfaced months ago), and this blurb about the plot:
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince— due in theaters Nov. 21 and highlighted in this exclusive look — the focus is on the evolution of Harry’s rival Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) into a malevolent [...]

Good God, those kids look old. Okay, so Emma Watson is still looking fresh as a field of flowers, but damn, the two boys? Daniel Radcliffe looks like he should be in court giving his opening statements, while Rupert Grint looks like he should be at home beating his wife because she overcooked the meat loaf. What I’m trying to say is, wow, are these guys still playing teenagers or are their characters in their 20s now? (As you can probably guess, I don’t read the books.) Anyways, here’s another image from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, the sixth movie in the never-ending Harry Potter franchise.
As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort’s dark past.
Harry and his potter returns November 21, 2008.

Here’s your first look at Harry Potter from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, the sixth book in the Harry Potter series. Well, it’s just Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) standing in some doorway looking downcast, and it could really be from any one of the other movies, but Empire Online says it’s from the sixth movie, and I’m going to go along with them.
