“Hitman” and “Mr. Margorium’s Wonder Emporium” weren’t exactly monster hits when they landed in theaters, but maybe they’ll do better on DVD. Sometimes movies just do better on DVD, when viewed in the comforts of home. For my money, “Hitman” was not an altogether bad action flick. In any case, here are specs and DVD cover art for both “Hitman” and “Mr. Margorium’s Wonder Emporium”.

The advertising campaign for the new movie “Hitman” is a little convoluted. I thought the game from which the movie is based was just about a hitman who goes around killing people for cash, but apparently it involves grand conspiracies, the Church, and prophecies galore. I have no idea if that’s what the games were also about, or if the movie is taking creative licenses to a new level, but everything I’ve seen of the movie looks like it could be a good action-packed thriller. It’s probably smart not to expect too much from the film beyond that. In any case, fans of Deadwood should get a kick out of seeing Seth Bullock with a barcode tattoo on the back of his bald head going around putting bullets into people.

I have to admit, I don’t have very high hopes for the upcoming videogame to movie adaptation of “Hitman”. I don’t know, but the trailers just don’t do it for me. They look cool enough, in a sort of mindless, generic action movie sort of way, but I just don’t think it’s going to be anything special. Well, it looks like it’s just going to get less special, with rumors that the film’s original director, Frenchman Xavier Gens, has been pulled from the film after FOX got a look at his, apparently, very violent cut of the movie. In his place, FOX has placed Nicolas De Toth to re-cut the film and deliver a less gory/bloody edit. Toth is no stranger to trying to “cleaning up” movies — he was hired to do the same thing to the recent “Die Hard” sequel “Live Free or Die Hard”.

The Dark Knight: Is Russell Crowe set for a cameo appearance in “The Dark Knight”? That’s what Christian Bale is saying, but whether he’s just playing around is a strong possibility. The two has just co-starred in the Western “3:10 to Yuma”, and there is a good chance Bale did talk Crowe into showing up on the Bat set. Here’s what Bale says: “Russell’s going to actually be in the new BATMAN movie, which is a big surprise and I want to reveal it to everybody right now.” I dunno, it sounds like a big gag by Mr. Bale to me.

For some reason, people don’t seem to be too enthusiastic about Timothy Olyphant playing Agent 47 in the upcoming videogame-to-movie “Hitman”. I really don’t care either way. I’m not a fan of the game, but from what I’ve seen of the movie, it looks somewhat promising. In any case, USA Today has an article on the movie, and they’ve also posted a tag-along new image from the movie, with Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47 (thumbnail to your left, bigger version below). The article is the usual first look stuff, with interviews and a brief history of the game and the actor.

A teaser poster for the videogame-to-movie “Hitman” has arrived online (thumbnail to your left, bigger version below), and it doesn’t look half bad. It stars Timothy Olyphant as a mysterious agent who goes around killing people. Or something like that. From what I recall of the game, you basically got a bunch of assignments that you had to carry out, but the game was way too hard for me, and I never really figured out what the game’s storyline was about. But according to the trailers (see it here) that came out a while ago, it seems to be some major conspiracy/prophecy thing going on.
Agent 47 (Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name.
The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught [...]

The teaser trailer for the Timothy Olyphant starrer “Hitman” has arrived online. The movie is based on the popular videogame of the same name, about a killer who, well, kills people. The teaser itself will show up in front of “Live Free or Die Hard”, which also co-stars Olyphant as the villain of the piece. The trailer looks okay, very moody and it seems to be giving off some kind of mythical vibe, one of those, “it’s in the prophecies!” sort of movies, which I never liked, mostly because they invariably get generic and cliche-ridden.
A gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 (Olyphant) is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks across Eastern Europe, and hired by a group known as “The Agency” to kill targets for cash.
“Hitman” stars Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Robert Knepper, Olga Kurylenko, and is directed by Xavier Gens.
The hitman takes aim October 12th, 2007.
