The landmark Korean ghost series “Whispering Corridors” returns for its fifth instalment with “A Blood Pledge”, marking the debut of director Lee Jong Yong, an interesting choice for the helm, given his previous work under Park Chan Wook on the likes of “JSA” and “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance”. The film continues very much in the tradition of its predecessors, being set at an all-girls school, dealing with contemporary themes and concerns of friendship, and of course presenting a new set of up and coming young actresses no doubt hoping to follow in the footsteps of former “Whispering” alumni Kim Min Sun, Kim Ok Bin, Kim Kyu Ri, Seo Ji Hye, and Choi Kang Hee. Interestingly, the film not only performed well at the domestic box office, but is the first of its brethren to have been mooted for a possible Hollywood remake.
The plot begins in suitably morbid fashion, as a young girl called Eon Joo (Jang Kyeong Ah) throws [...]

Originally unleashed back in 1984, “Silent Night, Deadly Night” was the subject of great controversy due to its premise of a serial killer dressed as Santa Claus, with outraged authorities and parents protesting its US release. The film encountered similar moral panic in the UK, where the ever-wise British Board of Film Classification refused it a certificate, effectively banning it. Inevitably, this has led to it building up a considerable cult following over the years, with many fans considering it one of the better films of the golden age of mid-80s slashers, and with it inspiring no less than 4 sequels of variable quality and tenuous linkage. Now, the film is finally available on region 2 DVD in its most complete form, just in time for Christmas, thanks to Arrow Video, coming with a jolly host of extras including an interview with director Charles E. Sellier Jr. and a booklet containing various pieces of production information.
The film starts with [...]

The biggest complaint I heard from guys about “Jennifer’s Body” was that it was Rated R, but it didn’t really make good use of the rating. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has either rectified that, or plans to convince you they have by releasing an Unrated Version of the movie on DVD and Blu-ray December 29. DVD cover art and specs below. Some of the special features include your usual assortment of deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and audio commentaries by director Karyn Kusama and writer Diablo Cody.
Sexy temptress Megan Fox is hotter than hell as Jennifer, a gorgeous, seductive cheerleader who takes evil to a whole new level after she’s possessed by a sinister demon. Steamy action and gore galore ensue as the male student body succumbs to Jennifer’s insatiable appetite for human flesh. Now it’s up to her best friend (Amanda Seyfried) to stop Jennifer’s reign of terror before it’s too late!

Cinematical has an exclusive on the latest The Wolfman poster, which you can see below. The poster is more suggestive of terror than anything, featuring Emily Blunt hiding in an ancient, decrepit forest from Benicio del Toro’s wolfman. It has a stylistic black and white, overlit, grainy quality that blends well with the feel of the film. The Wolfman also stars Hugo Weaving and Anthony Hopkins and will be released in theaters on February 12th, 2010.

Although it wasn’t nearly as funny as I was hoping it would be, “Tongan Ninja” director Jason Stutter’s amusing horror/comedy “Diagnosis: Death” is finally making its way to the States later this year. The film will certainly be a treat for hardcore fans of HBO’s popular series “Flight of the Conchords,” which stars Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie, and Rhys Darby. And while the marketing team behind the film would love for you to believe that these talented individuals have significant roles in the feature, this is actually a tad misleading. Their respective parts are, unfortunately, mere cameos, so do keep that in mind before blindly ordering the film in hopes of satisfying your “Conchords” fix.
Here’s the synopsis, as usual:
A supernatural force brings together two lost souls undergoing radical treatment at an experimental drug-testing facility. When the facility is locked down for the weekend and the drugs take effect, the human guinea pigs experience sinister hallucinations pointing to a horrific double [...]

Truth be told, I will be very, very surprised if this “Hellraiser” remake ever gets off the ground. Every other day I’m hearing war stories from deep within the production, ranging from a host of talented directors jumping ship to gross interference from the knuckleheads at the Weinstein Company. There’s even a rumor floating around out there that the film will be shot in 3D, though I’m hoping this is nothing more than baseless Internet speculation. Despite all of these unsightly blemishes, Horror-Movies.ca is reporting that there’s an official synopsis currently in circulation. The words and phrases, of course, are subject to change.
Here’s what the producers are officially pimping:
The re-telling of Clive Barker’s classic horror masterpiece. Based on Barker’s critically acclaimed novella “The Hellbound Heart,”Hellraiser tells the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of forsaken demons – lead by one of [...]

Until then, here are even more new images from the movie. Meanwhile, Sherlock Holmes fans will have to wait a little bit longer, December 25, for Guy Ritchie’s “dynamic” interpretation of the world’s greatest Detective to hit multiplexes. Hopefully by then the lobbies of theaters everywhere will be a little quieter.

Wait, didn’t Snoop Dogg already did something similar? Anyways, not content to wow the world with his amazing ability to recite lines about the crack whoreness of his mom and prone-to-bitchiness wife, rapper Eminem will return to the big screen in the 3D film “Shady Talez”. That’s pronounced “Shady Tales“, you see, the “z” in place of the “s” is just to make it look cooler. Because Eminem knows from coolness. So moving on.
The film will be Eminem’s first in over seven years, since his debut in 2002’s “8 Miles”, a movie where Eminem played a white trash kid from Detroit who dreams of becoming a big rapper, but no one gave him a chance, and still our white trash kid kept plugging until respect was given. Word! It was a stretch, we know, but that’s just how talented Slim Shady is.
The 3D “Shady Talez” is being written by Kevin Grevioux (”Underworld”) and Dallas Jackson, and will be in [...]

Japanese director Hideo Nakata is most famous for directing the original versions of the “Ring” movies, or “Ringu” as its known overseas. He loved directing ghost ladies who climb out of TV’s so much, he returned to the franchise in 2005 to direct the sequel to the American version starring Naomi Watts. (And, I suppose, the nice paycheck didn’t hurt, either.) With “Ring” still apparently popular (though I suppose that’s open to debate), Nakata is currently attached to direct the third entry, which is scheduled for 2011. Before that, though, Nakata is helming “Voice from the Stone” for Zanuck Independent.
Based on an Italian novel of the same name, “Voice From the Stone” was adapted by Mark Wheaton, and tells the story of a female child psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy. Nothing creepy there, right? Not so fast, my friends. You see, the hook is that the boy has made a promise to his dying mother [...]

So what’s so noteworthy about Todd Lincoln new horror movie? Um, not the premise. That sounds pretty generic. There’s no real big names attached, so that probably means a quick direct-to-DVD delivery. But it’s kinda noteworthy because it’s set to star Ashley Greene, who plays vampire Alice Cullen in the “Twilight” movies, and hopefully this is a good excuse to nab some of those “Twilight” fans trolling the Internet for “Twilight” news. Hey, you think I’ve written “Twilight” enough times? “Twilight”. Ahem.
So, the Ashley Greene news. The actress is currently in negotiations to star in a new supernatural horror movie called “The Apparition”. Greene will play the female half of a couple who are haunted by a supernatural presence that is unleashed during a college experiment. Now when they say “experiment” I’m guessing they don’t mean what we think of when we say “college experiment”, if you know what I mean.
Overture Films just sent over a new image from their upcoming remake of “The Crazies”. It features Radha Mitchell in a position I’ve often thought about.
Imagine living in a small town where everything is safe and happy…until suddenly it isn’t. Imagine your friends and neighbors going quickly and horrifically insane. In a terrifying tale of the “American Dream” gone horribly wrong, four friends find themselves trapped in their hometown in The Crazies, a reinvention of the George Romero classic directed by Breck Eisner from a screenplay by Ray Wright (Pulse, Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
David Dutten (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own house…after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Within days, the town [...]

Regardless of the film’s popularity or profitability, the good doctor recently told the fine chaps at Dread Central that he’s currently prepping the third installment in the series, which should, according to the much-maligned director, contain “plenty of Nazi mayhem.” This is actually kind of disappointing news, as I was hoping “Big Motha Truckers” would be Boll’s next project. Way to crush my hopes and dreams, boyo. Much appreciated.

Wanna know what “Prison Break’s” Wentwork Miller will look like in the upcoming “Resident Evil: Afterlife”? Well, he really doesn’t look all that different from his stint on “Prison Break”, but it looks like he did get a nice machete. STYD has your first look at the set of Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest “Resident Evil” movie, which returns franchise star Milla Jovovich as Alice and Ali Larter as Claire Redfield. Wentworth Miller joins the cast as Chris Redfield, Claire’s brother. The fourth entry in the never-say-die zombie series is currently shooting (onboard a tanker, it appears) in Toronto, Canada. Screen Gems will release the movie in 3-D next August.

I’ll be perfectly honest: The synopsis for “Tucker and Dale vs. Evil” didn’t really strike a chord with me, and when you stop to consider that I’m the sort of moronic drone that will laugh at just about anything, this speaks volumes. The idea definitely sounded intriguing, but for whatever reason that is still painfully unclear to me, I was very reluctant to check out the trailer. Thankfully, my hesitation was temporary. Writer/director Eli Craig appears to have taken a very simplistic idea — two rednecks who are mistaken for backwoods killers — and transformed it into something that actually looks pretty funny. Then again, my taste in cinema seems to differ greatly from majority of the movie-going public, so be sure to keep that in mind. Seriously.
Here’s the official word on the street:
Dale (Tyler Labine) and Tucker (Alan Tudyk) are checking out their newly acquired “summer home” (read: dilapidated cabin) when they save the life of a gorgeous college [...]

Let’s face it, it’s a fait accompli at this point. Paramount is going to make a sequel to Oren Peli’s mega-hit “Paranormal Activity”, it’s just a question of when, how, and if they’re willing to shell out the buckaroos to bring Peli back, or if they’re just going to get someone else to do it in his stead. After all, a hit (and not just a hit, but a genuine phenomenon) like “Paranormal Activity” doesn’t come around very often, and when it does you have to strike. Paramount is striking.
During Viacom’s earnings call Tuesday, CEO Philippe Dauman said the movie has been one of those surprise hits that comes along only rarely, grossing $85 million in the U.S. already.
Given that a follow-up release wouldn’t have the same element of surprise as “Paranormal,” it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel, he said. “Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach to make [...]

They went in search of 572 people that went missing down a wilderness trail 60 years ago, but they found … death! Okay, that’s a pretty shitty tagline. The filmmakers have a better one: “They were searching for an evil in the forest. . .but the forest found the evil in them.” Ooooh spooky. Here’s the trailer for Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton’s “YellowBrickRoad”. How do you know it’s scary? The title’s got three words, but they crammed it into one. That’s scary. P.S. for a moment there I thought this was going to be another faux documentary shot from a camera’s POV, but thank Goodness the trailer proved me wrong.
One Morning in New England, 1940, the entire population of Friar New Hampshire – 572 people – walked together up a winding mountain trail and into the wilderness. They left behind their clothes, their money, all of their essentials. Even their dogs were abandoned, tied to posts and left to [...]

Kevin Williamson is a busy man. He’s the creator of the CW’s teen vampire show “The Vampire Diaries”, and he’s currently putting the finishing touches on the fourth “Scream” movie. Besides that, he’s got “Scream 5″ hanging around in the near future, waiting for him to beat it into shape. In an interview with MTV, Williamson updates the masses on how the writing is going, and what exactly will comprise the plot of part four. And oh yeah, something about “beating a dead dog” by returning to the franchise.
“It’s going good. I’ve gotta finish that baby… The fourth one is an ensemble. It’ll take place right now, 10 years later, and it’s going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We’ll have our three main characters, and we’ll be introducing several more… We’ll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That’ll take us through the next three.”

A studio head sits at his desk and ushers in another man
Man: I’ve got a pitch for a new horror film.
Sony Man: Go for it.
Man: It’s about crocodiles!
Sony Man: Next.
Man: Killer crocodiles.
Sony Man: Been there, done that.
Man: Umm, it’s a sequel to Lake Placid!
Sony Man: Who wants to see a sequel to that?
Man: Err, everyone?
Sony Man: NEXT.
Man: Um…there’ll be two crocodiles this time…
Sony Man: Big wow. Next.

**END OF SPOILERS**
Sony Man: This will be the greatest film in the history of everything.
If you’ve seen Tobe Hooper’s “Crocodile” then chances are you’ve seen “Lake Placid 2″, even though you may not know it. The reason for this is that they’re pretty much the same film, only one has MORE CROCODILES.
Overture Films is announcing the start of principal photography on “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves’ remake of the Swedish vampire movie “Let the Right One In”. Shooting begins today and will take place in Albuquerque Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since retitled “Let Me In”, the horror film will star Kodi Smit-McPhee (”The Road”) as Owen and Chloe Moretz (”Kick Ass”) as Abby, the strange new girl in town. Filming will also take place in various other locations in the State of New Mexico before returning to Albuquerque to wrap in January.
In the haunting and provocative LET ME IN, an alienated 12-year-old boy (Smit-McPhee) befriends a mysterious young newcomer (Moretz) in his small New Mexico town and discovers an unconventional path to adulthood. The film is based on the bestselling vampire novel, Lat den Ratte Komma In, by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, and is an English-language remake of the highly acclaimed Swedish film of the same name.
