From what I’ve seen of Eli Roth, I like the cut of the bloke’s jig. He seems like a cool dude, and the one film of his that I saw, “Cabin Fever”, I absolutely loved to death. (For some reason, and mostly owed to laziness, I just never got around to seeing the two “Hostel” films.) In response to “Hostel 2’s” poor showing at the box office (barely $15 million in two weeks), Roth puts the blame squarely on piracy, pointing to the fact that an unfinished workprint version of “Hostel 2″ (sans music) somehow leaked online weeks before the film’s opening.
From Roth’s Myspace page:
However, piracy has become worse than ever now, and a stolen workprint (with uninished music, no sound effects, and no VFX) leaked out on line before the release, and is really hurting us, especially internationally. Piracy will be the death of the film industry, as it killed the music industry, and while it makes a smaller [...]

Eli Roth has the touch of the sophomore prankster. The lasting effect of all three of his films is a certain kind of Grand Guignol “Punk’D”, in which the “mark” is not only embarrassed, he’s also cut to pieces. You half expect Roth to pop up just as a character is having his face sliced off to yell, “You’ve just been Punk’d, Bitch!”
E.C. Comics stated that irony “was good for your blood”. Roth has certainly taken this to heart in his films, layering his blood with irony and generous helpings of parody and homage as well. He shares this prankster attitude with his friend and producer Quentin Tarantino, but the thing that separates Tarantino from the pack is his overall moral vision of the world, where the bad boy behavior has to eventually reap what he sowed and learn the consequences of his actions. Roth is a bit more nihilistic and certainly more misanthropic in his storytelling. For one [...]

So what’s up next for Eli Roth, the mastermind behind the “Hostel” movies, who has already declared that “Hostel 2″ will be his last in the burgeoning franchise? (I get the feeling some producer somewhere is getting ready to squirt out a couple of crappy sequels to cash in on the “Hostel” name as soon as Roth steps out the door. Wait for it, wait for it…) Anyhoo, according to MTV, Roth’s next movie, a horror-comedy called “Trailer Trash”, will be “an outrageous movie similar to the phony ‘Thanksgiving’ trailer (see below) he shot for buddy Quentin Tarantino’s most recent cinematic adventure”, the bomb-a-rific “Grindhouse”.
Roth plans to employ several of his fellow “Splat Pack” directors, including Edgar Wright (“Shaun of the Dead”), Robert Rodriguez (“Sin City”) and fx/make-up maestro Greg Nicotero. He’ll shoot the flick in-between other projects, and plans to get the cameras rolling soon. As for other “Trash” details, Roth said he’ll move the project forward with [...]
