Last night’s brand spanking new South Park episode may have been titled, “The China Problem”, but it mind as well have been “The Raping of Indiana Jones by that Spielberg and Lucas Guy”, which, granted, is probably way too long for an episode title, but it would have been much cooler. In case you missed it, last night’s South Park had Stan, Kyle, Timmy, and a bunch of people in town feeling traumatized over having gone to see the latest Indiana Jones movie and, er, well, there were a lot of South Park-styled scenes where Indy got raped by the two filmmakers ala other famous rape scenes from the movies, including Jodie Foster’s infamous pinball machine sequence in “The Accused”. And, of course, you can’t have a rape parody without some “Deliverance” thrown in there for good measure.
And oh yeah, Cartman is convinced the Chinese are coming to get us, and ropes Butters into helping him infiltrate their “gang”. This [...]

“Sex and the City” may have dominated the weekend entertainment news, and with good reason — the story of four women’s sexcapades in New York scored $55 in its opening weekend — but the real story should be that “The Strangers” landed at a solid #3 with $20 million, more than doubling its $10 million dollar budget in just its first week. No doubt the fact that all the women crammed into movie theaters for “Sex and the City” helped “The Strangers” to gobble up all the male audience that had already seen “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”.
A big-screen movie spin-off of a cultish HBO show, “Sex and the City” starred four women with sex on the brains. And shoes. And clothes. And other stuff girls really, really like, apparently. Who knew there would be such an audience for such a ridiculous movie?
Meanwhile, Harrison Ford’s fourth outing as Indiana Jones remained strong at the #2 spot [...]

(Movie Review by Dustin Adrian) So who is Indy battling in the new Indiana Jones movie? The Nazis? The Russians? No — it’s fan expectations. There are two Indiana Jones movies in theaters right now — there’s the film that has received bad web buzz and negative reviews and then there’s the actual movie. Which one you see when the lights go out is entirely up to you. The good news is that the actual movie is entertaining and fun.
We catch up with Indy 20 years after his last crusade — through a rather neat reveal shot that echoes the beginning of “Raiders of the Last Ark.” This time it’s the Russians that are after a device that will rule the world. They are searching for a Crystal Skull that baddie Agent Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchette) believes has psychic powers. Along for the adventure this time are Indy’s old love from “Raiders,” Marian Ravenwood (Karen Allen), her [...]

Now you would think that being able to put enough butts in seats to rake in $56 million in just two days would be considered a major success, but not so much nowadays. While $25 million on Thursday and $31 million on Friday is pretty impressive in anybody’s book, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” still has a long way to go to surpass the Memorial Day weekend numbers put up by “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” last year. Those numbers? A staggering $153 million, including Thursday showings.
For the three-day Memorial Day weekend (including Friday), where is how the box office broke down:
(Revised and Updated with New Numbers on 5/26/08)
The man in the fedora took in $101.0 million from Thursday to Sunday for a total of $126 million. Adding in Memorial Day Monday’s haul, the studio expects Indy’s comeback to surpass the $151 million mark, just a few million short of breaking the $153 set [...]

After 19 years, the man in the fedora finally makes his long-overdue return to the big screen in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull and the question that’s on everyone’s mind is: “Is this movie worth the price of admission?”
Well, let’s put it this way: my fiancée purchased the tickets and I still wanted to get my money back.
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are two examples whose talent goes against the old “gets better with age” theory: Indy 4 is a predictable, boring, and all-together uninspired (even John Williams music sounds rather insipid) waste of two hours.
In staying true to form, Spielberg has pulled no punches in the overuse of shadows (not to mention the proverbial shots of people looking at things in awe) while Lucas has once again created another CGI-laden wreck.
Apart from a few nice visuals (and only a few), the only really nice touch here is a brief bit with “Scrubs” regular [...]

There were a couple of crappy cellphone versions on YouTube and elsewhere, but Paramount has decided to give us the real thing in high definition quicktime, which you can download using the links below. Or, if you’re so inclined, take a gander at it using the bad DailyMotion version. It’s not entirely bad, but, you know, your choice.
Indy and his crystal skulls arrive May 22, 2008.

Leave it to USA Today to bring on the mega movies when they decide to even bother covering Hollywood movies. Over the last few months, they’ve provided first looks and articles on everything from “Speed Racer” to “Quantum of Solace” to “Watchmen”. Their latest is an article on “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, which comes included with two pictures, one with a perched Harrison Ford and the other an actual still from the movie, which shows off that “crystal skull” in the title.
A brief excerpt from the article:
Many of the plotlines of Crystal Skull are still secret, but Ford says the movie will try to give new perspectives on his globe-trotting, fist-fighting archaeologist. Jones happens to be among Ford’s favorite characters, and he has put his own curmudgeonly rogue qualities into him.
“He’s a guy who is pretty clear from the beginning,” Ford says. “He has not changed so much between films. But we’ve learned more about [...]

(Seriously, that title is way too long; I take a breath just typing it each time.) In any case, check out the new pics below. In the film, Shia plays a character named Mutt, aka Indy’s son.
So I was watching the kids awards show on Nickelodeon, when Harrison Ford and Shia LeBeouf showed up to give an award out for something or rather; I wasn’t really paying attention. Ford eventually gets doused with slime, as adults invariably do at these things. But behold, as soon as the show cut to commercial, there was a brand spanking new trailer for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls”. YouTube version below; get’em while they last, kids.
Harrison Ford and his kid hunt stuff in the jungle and run afoul of Russian agents led by Cate Blanchett. Plus, aliens, or something. Maybe not.
Get some skull fun on May 22, 2008.

In a shocker heard ’round the world, George Lucas made his escape from Skywalker range to proclaim to the world that — gasp! — “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” is “just a movie”, no better or worst than the previous “Indiana Jones” movies, and if you expect more than that, you’re shit out of luck. Okay, maybe he didn’t use the “s”-word, but I’m sure that’s what he meant. With all the hoopla surrounding the movie, magazine coverages by Vanity Fair and geeks everywhere geekgasm over every little image from the movie, Lucas has created quite a stir with his comments.
Here’s what George told USA Today:
“When you do a movie like this, a sequel that’s very, very anticipated, people anticipate ultimately that it’s going to be the Second Coming,” Lucas says. “And it’s not. Set in 1957, “Indy 4″ has Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) back in action, this time in the jungles of South America in a race against Soviet agents led by Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) to find the mystical Crystal Skull.
Another day, another picture of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and that Shia kid as his kid, this time fighting Russian soldiers in a moving car while Karen Allen drives them through a jungle-esque terrain. And hey, according to this EW article that posted the image, Shia’s name in the movie is “Mutt”. I’m guessing that’s a term of endearment. Or maybe Indy hates his son. Who knows. Find out May 22 when the movie opens.
More:
Seen here for the first time, it features Indy (Harrison Ford), a new character named ”Mutt” (Shia LaBeouf), and an old favorite named Marion Ravenwood (Raiders’ Karen Allen, with her back to the camera). For reasons best left unsaid (okay, we have no idea), the trio are careening through the Peruvian rain forest in an amphibious vehicle — yes, there’s a river chase involved in the plot somehow — racing a group of nefarious Russians to find a temple that holds the mysterious treasure of [...]

You gotta give him credit, ol Uwe Boll has some serious balls hanging between those two German legs of his. While everyone and their momma is running away to avoid opening their movie opposite Spielberg and Lucas’ “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, Boll has taken the other path, and is opening his movie “Postal” against it in the same week. Yup. The man is either off his rockers, or he’s a marketing genius. You decide.
More:
“On the Indiana Jones weekend – May 23 – we will go out and destroy Indiana Jones in the box office!” the German director of House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark and In the Name of the King told the MovieSet website. “We all know that Harrison Ford is older then my grandpa and his time is up – as Michael Moore would say!”
The dude didn’t stop there. “It’s also a duel of two directors,” Boll added. “Spielberg gets sloppy. [...]

So there’s this whole hullabaloo going on the interwebs today about how Spielberg et al CGI’ed out some guns from the trailer of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” to make the trailer more “family-friendly” to U.S. audiences, and I got to thinking about that Southpark episode where Spielberg changed guns to walkie-talkies on all of his films, so you had menacing men threatening kids with walkie talkies. Funny stuff. Anyhoo. Continue reading.
AICN has got the tidbit about why in one scene in the Indy 4 trailer you saw men with machineguns running toward Indy and Ray Wise, then the sounds of guns being cocked, only to see a bunch of dudes surround Indy and company, but no guns visible. Because, apparently, they were all CGI’ed out at the request of the MPAA. No, really. The machineguns were kept intact for the International trailer. See below.

Hah! It’s that South Park episode all over again:

Here it is, kids, the trailer for Harrison Ford’s latest go as Indiana Jones, in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. Having now seen the trailer, here are my thoughts: cool, they’re making fun of Indy’s old age; and wow, Cate Blanchett’s hair is going to be soooooo distracting throughout the movie.

Whip it May 22, 2008.

And oh yeah, did you notice a very specific crate showcased in the trailer? The one where Cate Blanchett is leaning over, and the words stenciled across it reads: “Roswell, New Mexico, 1947″? Hmm, me thinks those rumors of Indy 4 involving aliens may be true after all…

Yet more images from Steven Spielberg and George Lucas’ “old man goes on an adventure” flick, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls”, because I know you guys can’t get enough of them. These are brought to you by here, via here.
So what do we learn from these images?
One, Cate Blanchett needs a new hair stylist; and two, Indiana Jones still doesn’t like snakes. Plus, Indy is still way too old to be running around fighting Russians, but that’s another article.
Indy and son look for a crystal skull and fight Russians and whatnot.

I’m not the biggest fan of the “Indiana Jones” movie, and the details of the latest installment doesn’t exactly have me jumping like a little school girl. But I recognize that some of you out there are crazy for the franchise, which is why I continue to post new news on it. The latest is your first look at the crystal skull from the title, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (thumbnail to your left, bigger version below). Yeah, it’s a skull. Excited yet?

A couple of new “Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” pictures have appeared online. One showed Indy with a bazooka, Karen Allen, and Shia Labeouf in a car, and the second, newer one has Cate Blanchett getting testy with Indy by way of a sword. Bad girl, bad girl!
