Remember when you had to buy the DVD to get the movie’s deleted scenes? Not so much anymore. Now the studios are putting out the deleted scenes as freebies to get people interested. Either that, or some intrepid fellow put these up on his own accord. Either/or. The “Iron Man” DVD (standard and Blu-Ray) has been out since September 30, where you can get all the deleted scenes from the movie and, no doubt, a ton of other extras. But for those who haven’t gotten their hands on the DVD yet, here are some of the deleted scenes. I’m sure there’s more on the DVD.
You can sort of see why most of them were taken out; they add a lot to the movie, character-wise, but they would probably kill the pacing, especially for a Summer Event Film, which simply has to move, move, MOVE or lose the audience.

A month and a half after it was first release, Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” has cleared $300 million dollars in domestic receipts. Add to it the $249 it’s made in overseas buckaroos, and it’s look like Marvel Studios chose correctly when they decided to pop their production cherry with “Iron Man”. Consider the film’s (by today’s Hollywood blockbuster standards) middling $140 million dollar budget, and the hit just keeps on coming. (For God’s sake, consider Adam Sandler’s romantic comedy “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan”, which despite having nothing close to the special effects of “Iron man”, still boasts a bloated $90 million dollar budget when $5 million would have gotten you the exact same movie — minus Sandler, of course.)
According to Box Office Mojo, who are basically the only sites out there that actually tracks this stuff, “Iron Man’s” $300 take isn’t even a record. Can you guess which movie is #1 to be first to $300 in the [...]

“Iron Man” has the distinction of being the first in Marvel’s new line of Marvel Studios-produced movies to make it to the big screen. It will soon be followed by the reboot of the “Incredible Hulk” with Edward Norton. Marvel has already announced a slew of other comic book properties following in their footsteps, including a Captain America movie, an Avengers movie, and a Thor movie, to name just three. With “Iron Man”, Marvel Studios has chosen wisely; from the very beginning, “Iron Man” had the makings of a commercial and critical success, and judging by the film’s massive box office here and abroad, that promise has been borne out.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark, the billionaire golden boy of Stark Industries, known as much for their war machines as their Playboy CEO’s exploits on the social scene. Stark shares control of Stark Industries with longtime family friend Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), who as it turns out has eyes on [...]

Prince Caspian and the Pevensie kids may not have exceeded industry expectations in their first week of release, and indeed fell below the mark set by the opening weekend of the first “Chronicles of Narnia” movie, but Caspian and company nonetheless did what other films couldn’t do for the last two weeks — knock Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” off the top spot. “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Capsian”, the second of an expected trilogy, took in $56.6 million at the box office in its weekend debut, good enough for first place over runner-up “Iron Man”, which finally had to give up the box office crown with $31.2 million in its third week of release, bringing its 3-week total to $222.5 million in the U.S. alone.
Meanwhile, the romcom “What Happens in Vegas” continues to surprise, managing to hold onto the #3 spot with a second weekend take of $13.9, bringing its two-week total to $40.3 million. But as surprisingly well as [...]

It looks like the geeks were on full alert during their viewing of “Iron Man”, because they’ve spotted something that can only be seen in the movies — Captain America’s shield apparently made a guest cameo in “Iron Man”, showing up in one of the scenes from the movie (see pic below). The discovery comes from FirstShowing.net, who is adamant that the shield does in fact show up in the film.
Here’s what FirstShowing said:
The scene in which you can see the shield is after Iron Man returns from Afghanistan after fighting with the Mark III red/gold armor for the very first time. Right after he fights the two F-22 fighter jets, it shows him back in his lab trying to remove his armor but having trouble. Right as Pepper Potts walks down into his lab and asks him “what is he doing?”, the shield can be seen sitting on one of his tables behind him in the lower left corner.

Take this for what you will: The Wachowski Brothers’ “Speed Racer’, their first movie since the third installment of their “Matrix” trilogy in 2003, couldn’t handle Iron Man’s repulsor rays, opening at #2 with an approximate $20 million take, about the same amount as the Ashton Kutcher-Cameron Diaz romantic comedy “What Happens in Vegas”. Meanwhile, Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” continues to hold steady, taking in another $50 million in its second week of release, for a 2-week total of $177 at the U.S. box office alone.
The fact that “Speed Racer” couldn’t outpace “Iron Man” is not as big of a surprise as the fact that it came in toe-to-toe with “What Happens in Vegas”, beating the other movie out by a few hundred thousand despite arriving in nearly 400 more theaters. No doubt “Vegas” took all the women in the audience, while “Speed” had to fight for the table scraps of “Iron Man”.

To no one’s surprise, Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” was #1 at the box office over the weekend, making it a bona fide blockbuster hit. Not only did ol’ shellhead pull in an astounding $104 mil in the U.S. box office, but the film also raked in an equally impressive $96.7 million in overseas receipts, for a first-week worldwide total of just north of $200 million. Can you say, “Iron Man 2″ and “Iron Man 3″? I knew you could. At this point, even if “The Incredible Hulk” is a bust (and who says it will be?), Marvel Studios can probably still call 2008 a success with “Iron Man” alone.
But as gaudy as “Iron Man’s” box office numbers were, and they were very gaudy indeed, the week’s other new release, the derivative romantic comedy “Made of Honor” didn’t do so badly by drawing in the heavy “chick flick” crowd that refused to watch a guy in an iron armor fly around.
Hollywood has been mining the comic book shelves for quite some time, but has been hitting it particularly heavily over the last decade. Everything from the classics to the new-age stuff has been tapped at one time or another (several times, even), but they’ve met with mixed results. For every “Batman Begins,” there are a handful of “Spawn”s and “Hulk”s. The latest entry into the genre is “Iron Man,” based on the 1960s Marvel Comics series.
“Iron Man” tells the story of genius billionaire weapons designer Tony Stark who, after a horrific turn of events, changes the focus of his energies from the business of destruction to doing good. The film opens with Stark (Robert Downey Jr., “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) trekking through Afghanistan with a US military convoy, mercilessly belittling his uptight escorts with his aloof wit and playboy charm (he apparently scored with all twelve Maxim Magazine cover models in one year). That is [...]

After a lot of talk and debate and rumor mongering, it turns out that Samuel L. Jackson will be showing up at the end of “Iron Man” in a brief cameo as Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD, who comes to Tony Stark aka Iron Man to talk about “the Avengers Initiative”. But if you’re not inclined to do so, camcorder bootlegs have already begun showing up on YouTube and other free video hosting destinations.
The boys at I09 was quick enough to grab a copy and is now hosting it on their site. You can see it by heading over there now.

Apparently that much ballyhooed Nick Fury (as played by, of course, Samuel L. Jackson) cameo in the upcoming “Iron Man” was missing from advancing screenings Paramount held for critics, because I’ve read on a number of sites that have reviewed the film that Nick Fury does not have a cameo. Not true, says Australian moviegoers, who confirms that Nick Fury does do a brief cameo at the end of the film, in which one viewer described as “40 seconds or so with Stark and Nick Fury”.
Moviehole, an Aussie movie site, has more from his fellow Down Underoos:
Another writer tells us :
“At the end of the credits, Stark comes home and finds Nick Fury in his living room -staring towards the window. He then turns to tell Stark he’s the not the only superhero in the world. And even God will probably be a fan of ol Shellhead. There is just no way this thing isn’t going to do gangbuster business, and no way anyone is going to keep a sequel or two from happening. Having said that, it’s good news then that director Jon Favreau sounds very gung-ho about coming back to do a second, and possibly a third, installment.
Favreau told Sci Fi Wire this:
“I would love to keep directing these,” Favreau said in an interview in New York over the weekend. “Really, the sky is the limit. I think you’ve got to outdo yourself. Sigh. The joys (or is that pains?) of unclehood. In any case, here are some more “Iron Man” clips released by the studio to get the fans all excited and what have you. Some you’ve already seen, but there are a couple of good ones.
I especially like the Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) interaction. Also, no matter how many times I’ve seen it, Stark’s snappy reply to reporter Leslie Bibb’s “Da Vinci” questions always make me grin like a fool. Check out all the new clips below.
When wealthy industrialist Tony Stark is forced to build an armored suit after a life-threatening incident, he ultimately decides to use its technology to fight against evil.
“Iron Man” takes off May 2, 2008.

The latest marketing tool is a “tour” of Iron Man’s mansion, or more accurately, Tony Stark’s mansion with director Jon Favreau as your host. It’s only a two-minute or so clip, and doesn’t reveal anything except the magic of moviemaking. Sort of. And yes, in case you were wondering, it really is a slow movie news day, hence I’m resorting to posting this. Sigh. But hey, it’s either this or the latest news about “High School Musical 20″, so pick your poison, kiddos.
Iron Man. Summer. Gangbusters.

Tony Stark doesn’t do anything normal — he runs before he can walks, for instance. Check out this clip from Jon Favreau’s movie, as Tony Stark tests out his Iron Man suit for the very first time. “Handles like a dream”, he says. Yeah, right. Looks cool as hell, though. “Iron Man” opens May 2, 2008.

A fresh batch of “Iron Man” pics have showed up online, although I’m not sure how long these will last before the original site, Superhero Hype gets a kind letter from Paramount threatening to sue them if they don’t remove the pics. After all, Paramount didn’t go through the trouble of stamping those huge “Paramount” logos all over the pics for nothing, you know. But hey, as long as they’re still here, enjoy them and join us in eagerly awaiting for Jon Favreau’s movie to finally come out and show the world how comic book movies should be done. Are you listening, guy who did “Fantastic Four” franchise?
“Iron Man” opens May 2, 2008.
Update
Instead of waiting for Paramount to send me a letter threatening to sue me unless I remove the “Iron Man” pics (they’ve already asked other sites to take them down), I’m going to beat them to the punch and remove the pics first (take that, Paramount!), and tell [...]

You’ve probably seen him move around in the trailers, but here are a couple of new pictures of Iron Monger (thumbnail to your left, bigger versions below), the supervillain (I guess you could call him that, right?) in Jon Favreau’s upcoming “Iron Man” movie. Yeah, I know, he looks kind of shitty compared to the smooth look of Iron Man. But I guess it’s tougher to put down, being built like a friggin’ tank and all. Anyhoo, here are some new “Iron Man” pics that shows off Iron Monger in all his, er, mongering form.
Get some iron May 2nd, 2008.

Is this our first look at War Machine from the upcoming “Iron Man” movie? Probably. We already know that Terrence Howard will be playing Jim Rhodes in Jon Favreau’s movies, and comic book readers know that Rhodes actually impersonated Iron Man for a time. Stark had built the War Machine for himself, but Rhodes took it over when Stark was believed to have died. (That happens a lot in comics, in case you don’t know.) The plot of the sequel, perhaps? Maybe. Here’s the War Machine toy that showed up at Wal-Mart called “Iron Man – Stealth Operations”.
I actually liked the War Machine comics back in the day, especially the weird, oftentimes contentious relationship between Stark and Rhodes, and it’ll be great to see it replicated on the big screen.

A new batch of “Iron Man” pictures for ya. Some new, some old, some that are repeats of what I posted before, but since it’s been a while and I have posted way too many “Iron Man” images over the year or so, I really have no idea. And is it me, or is the movie starting to shape up and look so much better than the comic books ever did? I was never that big a fan of ol shellhead, but I might just become a major fan of the movie version. Go figure. Isn’t it usually the other way around?
Tony Stark is a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armor and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.

Everybody who is interested in comic book movies and has a movie blog have been talking about the upcoming cross-cover cameos by characters from the two upcoming Marvel movies, “The Incredible Hulk” and “Iron Man”. And with Marvel as the sole studio behind the two movies, there seems to be no obstacle to such a thing; in fact, why wouldn’t the two movies cross-over, would be the real question. So what does the star have to say about it? Here’s Robert Downey Jr. with his take.
More:
He managed to be a bit more forthcoming on the topic of his “Hulk” cameo, revealing the moment in question.
“It happens to be a scene where I basically approach [William Hurt’s character, General Ross], and we may be considering going into some sort of limited partnership together,” Downey stated.
Adding, Downey said, “The great thing is he — and I don’t want to give too much away — but he’s in disrepair at the time I [...]

As soon as they finish their theatrical run, and the DVDs are on the shelf, Marvel’s “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” will be heading straight to the FX Network for their cable run, thanks to a major deal between Marvel Studios and the FX Network. Not only those two movies, but Marvel will also throw in three, as-yet-unnamed comic book movies. In return, FX will pony up something in the vicinity of $22 million buckaroos a piece for each movie.
More:
As with most of the basic-cable pre-buys, the net agrees to pony up a license fee that hovers at around 11% of the domestic gross, a figure that cuts off at $200 million. If all five movies end up as $200 million-plus blockbusters — a very big if, of course — FX would pay the maximum $22 million apiece for a grand total of $110 million. That’s a gigantic license fee, but lots of people watch big-hit movies on [...]
