I swear that when I first saw a video for Jean-Claude Van Damme’s “JCVD”, I thought it was some kind of goof. You know, something the Muscles from Brussels put together to mess with people, just for the heck of it, cause he’s just cool that way. As it turns out, not so much. It’s actually a real movie. I mean, a real movie, with a director, writers, and theater release dates and junk. Go figure. But I’m not surprised we’re getting this tongue-in-cheek adventure from Van Damme. I’ve always said that, of all the former major action stars, Van Damme was the only one willing to take risks. And yeah, this thing is risky, alright, but I got a feeling it’ll sell. You’ll never catch Seagal or Snipes make fun of himself like this.
Final poster, U.S. English trailer, and limited release dates for “JCVD” below.

Ever since I posted those “JCVD” clips, people have been asking me if this thing is for real. I’d like to say Yes, because if this was a gag reel, they sure spent a lot of money on it. So going on the assumption that this thing is a real movie, here’s one of the official trailers for it. Not the final trailer, according to the guy who sent it to me, but one of the trailers. I said it before and I’ll say it again: this will either be the greatest Jean-Claude Van Damme movie ever made, or it will be a train wreck. From everything I’ve seen, this thing looks funnier than the current state of Steven Seagal’s career. I.e. it’s a hoot.
Let’s see, from what I can gather from the trailer: JCVD plays JCVD, who is going through a custody battle, and needs money to pay his lawyer. So he goes to the bank, but they don’t [...]

Jean-Claude Van Damme wants his cash, dammit! You know, when I first saw the first trailer for “JCVD” late last year (here), I thought it was some kind of gag that Van Damme and some friends put together, but now, dude — this is a real movie! Check out the latest trailer where Van Damme, upon not being to take out his cash, goes bonkers and takes hostages.
This will either end up as the greatest Jean-Claude Van Damme movie ever made, or it’ll be just the biggest pile of crap you’ve ever seen. I can’t get a feel for it either way, but man, these clips are really, really awesome.
I’ve added the second teaser trailer, which I hadn’t seen before. It’s all in French, but the third one has English subtitles. The second one is basically incomprehensible, unless you speak French, because all it is is JCVD riding in a car and then laughing like a maniac at the end. [...]

Jean-Claude Van Damme is … Jean-Claude Van Damme? Yeah, I know, I’m confused, too, but it’s still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, and it’s done completely with a straight face, which makes it even funnier. According to the guys at Joblo.com, this is “a “pre-sell” teaser for Cannes, and that the movie itself is in production with Luc Besson’s company.” It’s a four minute clip with Jean-Claude Van Damme playing himself, as the actor crashes a casting call for actors to play him in a bio-pic called “JCVD”. Jean-Claude Van Damme shows up, stunning everyone, and demands that he get the part in a movie about himself. It’s funny as hell, especially a line they have Van Damme saying in the bio pic about how, if there was no oxygen, birds and planes would fall out of the sky. No, seriously, it’s all in here.
I’ve always liked Van Damme, moreso than the rest of the former action [...]
