The Hollywood Reporter’s got a big rundown of all the upcoming and in-the-pipeline movies from D.C. Comics, including the publishing house’s idea of putting three of its biggest writers, Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman on some of the properties to get them moving again with a fresh spin. They also mention that a live-action “Aquaman” movie is currently in development over at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way shingle. But wait, fans of “Aquaman”, I wouldn’t get too excited about that. DiCaprio’s company is producing about five billion geek-friendly movies at the moment, and I don’t think a single one of them has ever actually gotten made. I could be wrong, of course.
Other D.C. films that are currently in the pipeline includes the much-delayed “Flash” movie, with Geoff Johns doing another treatment on the film, which originally boasted a script by Dan Mazeau. No word on what projects Morrison and Wolfman are working on over at Warner Bros., where all [...]

Aussie director George Miller (”Happy Feet”, the “Mad Max” franchise) has provided an update on Warner Bros’ long-gestating Justice League movie (or “Mortal”, or whatever the hell they want to call it), as well as dropping a hint or two about the possibility of yet another “Mad Max” sequel with franchise star Mel Gibson. In a visit to the Australian morning TV show “Sunrise”, Miller says that he’s officially “off” the JLA movie, and even if the film should go forward again in the future, he will have nothing to do with it in any capacity. Plus, Miller hints that Warner seems to have come around to dumping their JLA 90210 idea that they were moving ahead with for the longest time, and now seems to want bigger stars for the role, in which case it would seem impossible to cast people from The OC. Can I get an “Amen”?

It’s going to take a long time (probably after Marvel’s “The Avengers” finally hits the big screen in 2011 and proves to be a mammoth hit, would be my guess) until Warner Bros. finally gets their shit together and a Justice League movie is finally put into development for a major Summer release. Then again, maybe not. In the third and last part of their interview with “Batman Begins” director Christopher Nolan, the LA Times asks the director for his take on the Justice League movie, and the idea of crossing Nolan’s Batman over with the more colorful characters of the DC Universe. Basically, Nolan doesn’t think it could work. In fact, if he had his way, there wouldn’t exist a DC Universe.
Highlights from the LAT interview:
GB: Chris, this summer, “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” signaled the true start of the “crossover era” in comic-book films with Marvel Studios putting an emphasis on the fact that their heroes coexist [...]

Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! Yup, that’s the sound of comic book fanboys everywhere screaming at the mere notion that the doomed “Justice League” movie was now back on track for production, and is being planned for 2009 re-start date. Of course, that’s not the studio talking, just an article in the Australian paper Herald Sun, so all you fans of quality comic book movies can take shelter in the pretty good possibility that this is just some Aussies talking out of their ass, and not necessarily the real thing.
The Herald Sun article talks about how great Megan Gale is, before dropping this tidbit at the end:
Initially slated to be filmed Down Under, [the film's director George] Miller conceded production had been moved offshore, with a plan to resume filming next year.
Let’s hope this is just a fluff piece on the wonders of Megan Gale (and judging by her picture below, yes indeed, she is quite a wonder), and nothing more. Because let’s [...]

Adam Brody (pictured, left) is confused. About everything. He doesn’t know what happened to the Justice League movie (”a tax credit thing”) or if it’ll still happen (”I truly don’t know any more than you guys do”). In fact, the only thing Adam Brody knows is that he’s no longer shooting George Miller’s ill-fated Justice League movie, and that the only thing on his mind right now is Megan Fox’s body on “Jennifer’s Body”.
Here’s Brody’s comments about the JLA movie from SuperheroHype:
“I probably shouldn’t be commenting on this, but who cares?” he said when asked about what happened to the Warner Bros. project that has George Miller attached to direct. ” I don’t totally know, I know there was a tax credit thing and I know that the initial writers strike was a hindrance.
Could it be? Is the Justice League movie dead, or at the very least, been put on delay mode for a very, very long time? One can only hope. I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again: I’m excited about a Justice League movie, but not so much about anything that I’ve heard about it so far, including the hiring of a grandfather as director, a bunch of 20-something nobodies in the roles, and various reviews of the script, in all its incarnations. After every article I’ve written about the JLA movie, one phrase kept coming to mind: “God this is going to suck.” So is the movie dead? Maybe.
Here’s CHUD with the maybe/maybe-not quote of the week:
I’m in Long Beach at the Speed Racer junket and I briefly cornered producer Joel Silver to ask him how the Justice League movie would affect Wonder Woman. The answer: it won’t. According to Silver, who would be in the know, Justice [...]

What? That damn Justice League movie is still happening? Dammit all. Anyways, from the big bag of Rumorsville, comes the latest rumor that Hayden Christensen, aka Darth Vader Jr., is playing Superman in the big-budget comic book movie. Or at least, that’s what Adam Brody, who has been confirmed as playing the Flash in the movie, told some girl he met in a bar. Yeah, it’s that kind of rumor. Anyhoo, take it for what you will. Or not at all. It’s Saturday, so it’s completely up to you.
More:
One such report rolled into my inbox tonight from a CB reader named Candace, who says she managed to corner Adam Brody in a BC bar and get him talking about JLA. What he told her is kind of a shocker. Here’s her story: “I asked Brody to sign a napkin, and asked what he/they were doing here. They’re in BC to check out locations for their new superhero movie Justice [...]

Almost there, boys. The nails are slowly but surely being pound into the coffin of the ill-conceived “Justice League of America” movie. (Or “Justice League: Mortals”, or whatever the hell they’re calling it nowadays.) The latest news out of Australia is that the Down Under government will not be giving Warner Bros. the tax break they’re asking for, and indeed, one of the reasons why they chose Australia to film in the first place, which may mean the movie possibly moving to Canada — or, if the Gods are smiling, getting trashed and starting from scratch. One can only hope, right?
More:
Once again, the troubled Justice League of America movie has hit a bump in the road. Discussing the film with the Sydney Morning Herald, director George Miller revealed his frustration with the Australian government over a denied tax break that will likely mean the movie will change locations and in any instance, will create more setbacks.

Or should we say, JLM? Since as everyone has been saying, the Powers That Be seems to have dropped the “America” and instead inserted “Mortal”, which is no surprise to me, as I always expected the filmmakers to drop the “America” from the title from Day 1. (We wouldn’t want to make this movie too American now, would we? Them foreign folks might not like it!) But in any case, AICN is reporting that they know who will play the Martian Manhunter in George Miller’s why-won’t-it-just-die comic book epic: an Aussie actor name Hugh Keays-Byrne (pictured), who originally played Toecutter in Miller’s original “Mad Max”.
More:
My source says that MORTAL is indeed tied to the film, appearing on official documents (sometimes representing the whole title… so it could also be a Blue Harvest situation). The story also lists a guy by the name of Hugh Keays-Byrne as appearing in the movie, but doesn’t say who he’ll play.

(Apparently it’s now going by just “Justice League”, and not “Justice League of America”, as predicted here many, many moons ago.) The studio has now slotted the disastrous — er, I mean, further — adventures of Batman et al for a Summer 2009 release, which seems mightly optimistic considering this movie has had more fits and starts than Britney Spears trying to exercise.
More:
Scribes Kieran and Michele Mulroney are busy polishing up the script, which is expected back at the studio in several weeks, and the cast has been advised to keep training for their superhero roles. Director George Miller is in pre-production in Australia.
Adam Brody, cast as the Flash, is the biggest star in the superhero lineup. Rapper Common nabbed the Green Lantern role; other roles went to lesser-known thesps such as Armie Hammer Jr. (Batman) and Megan Gale (Wonder Woman).

Who knows, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. More:
Justice League was due to be shot at Fox Studios this year until Warner Bros suspended production last month, citing uncertainty over the new incentives. Based on a comic book, it is due to star the Australians Megan Gale, Teresa Palmer and Hugh Keays-Byrne among eight lead roles and employ a huge crew that includes visual effects specialists.

But you know what, I don’t have a whole lot of faith that it’ll manage to meet even that lowly threshold. In it, Superman is dead at the hands of Doomsday, Batman is kicked out of the League, and the movie is about characters like Green Lantern and Green Arrow trying to go on without them.

Well it’s official. After days of internet rumblings that the George Miller-directed Justice League movie was being grounded because of script concerns and a ballooning budget, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed the news: the movie has been put on ice until the script can be worked on, which won’t happen until the writers strike ends.
More:
Also adding to the woes were questions of tax-incentive qualifications in Australia, where Miller was prepping to shoot. The project’s costs were escalating, and the script would need an overhaul if the movie didn’t qualify for discounts.
The decision to put the project on hold now frees up the actors who had been cast in the roles of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash. D.J. Cotrona, Adam Brody, Anton Yelchin, Common, Teresa Palmer and Megan Gale had been cast in the movie in November, with their holding deals extended at least once as the studio tackled the script problems. The extensions expired Tuesday, after [...]

It looks like Warner Bros. is having a bit of a problem getting its two massive event films into production, the George Miller-directed “Justice League of America” movie and “The Man of Steel”, the sequel to Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns”. The culprit? Yep, you guessed it, that damn strike.
On the JLA movie (via):
Entertainment Weekly magazine reported in its Jan. 18 edition that George Miller’s upcoming Justice Leage of America film may face a delay because the ongoing writers’ strike could forestall a desired script rewrite.
Citing an anonymous source, the magazine said that producers want a rewrite, but are debating whether to begin shooting without one. Warner Brothers has until Jan. 15 to either green-light the movie for a spring production start for a summer 2009 release or push it until after the strike is resolved.
Meanwhile, the magazine reported that all seven superheroes have been cast.
On “The Man of Steel” (via):
Warner Brothers has pushed back the release of its proposed sequel [...]

Is it wrong of me to hope that the Justice League movie gets not only delayed, but scrapped entirely? Why? Because it just sounds like utter crap, that’s why, from the kiddie cast to the silly storylines they’re going to be throwing into this thing. I was excited about the movie for a long time, but not so much anymore, and so these rumors that the movie may be delayed kind of fills me with hope — that this thing dies NOW.
More:
“Justice League is indeed in danger of not starting production on time and maybe even getting scrapped altogether” is what a studio source told the IESB last week. “The concerns are that the script is not ready to go in front of cameras, and also that the budget is getting a bit out of control, the WGA strike has proven to be Kryptonite to Superman and friends.”
So while the cast is apparently locked, the studio has had to go [...]

The latest Justice League casting rumor (aren’t there like 10 of these things a month nowadays?) has former Bond girl Eva Green auditioning for a role in the upcoming epic comic book movie. Or is she? Word from Australian site news.com.au is that Green was recently in Australia (where the film is currently being prep to shoot) auditioning for a role — but which role?
More:
It’s bonjour Sydney for Bond girl Eva Green, who has jetted into the Harbour city to add some potential big-screen sparkle to Australian director George Miller’s Christmas.
According to film industry insiders, the French femme fatale is in town to audition for Miller’s upcoming blockbuster Justice League of America, to be shot at Fox Studios next year.
Well that’s pretty much it.
So if true, what role would she be auditioning for? Wonder Woman? Wasn’t that role already taken by Aussie Megan Gale? Gale has the body for the role, but Green doesn’t. She’s too small to be [...]

I guess we all knew (and I’ve reiterated here often enough) that there probably isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that the Justice League of America movie will retain the “JLA” title by the time it hits the big screens. My guess was (and still is) that they would take out the “America” part (dissing America being very much in vogue in Hollywood at the moment and all) and just go with “Justice League”, but maybe I was wrong, and it’s actually … “American Heroes”?
Naaaaaaaaaaah.
AICN has this:
Last week at the AFI’s George Miller mentioned that JUSTICE LEAGUE will have a new title soon.
We may have it already.
Christian Bale was on Nova (FM) today in an interview (pre-recorded I assume) for “Yuma” and said he has “nothing to do with AMERICAN HEROES, and their Batman will be different to our Batman”.
I don’t buy it. I’ll put good money that the title ends up being simply “Justice League”, or if Hollywood really [...]

The Justice League of America movie may be happening or it may not be happening, but either way, The Flash (aka smart-alecky Wally West) has been cast, with former The OC actor Adam Brody slipping on the scarlet speedster’s yellow boots. Or at least that’s according to The L.A. Times via MTV. Word is, the Powers That Be won’t confirm the casting, but only because they want to announce the entire line-up at once, and they haven’t cast everyone yet.
Brody joins Aussie supermodel Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, someone name Armie Hammer as Batman, and, if rumors are to be believed, Scott Porter as Superman.
More:
27-year-old Adam Brody is going from the Land of Women to the Hall of Justice, as the former television star has closed negotiations to play The Flash in George Miller’s “Justice League of America” movie, the “LA Times” reports. The version of the Flash seen in “JLA” will be Wally West, nephew to original Flash [...]

It appears the JLA movie is moving at full steam, and that everything we’ve heard about the film being Justice League of Beverly Hills 90210 is pretty much correct. The guys and gals over at IESB, who have never been wrong before except for a few times that I can recall, tells us that Armie Hammer is Batman. Then let’s head over to geek central at AICN, who tells us that Aussie Megan Gale is Wonder Woman.
About Hammer time boy (via):
Armie Hammer. I know what you’re thinking, “WHO?” Armie Hammer, short for Armand Hammer not to be confused with Arm & Hammer the popular “do-everything” household agent. But yes, Armie Hammer has joined the cast as none other than the Dark Knight himself, Batman.
Clocking in at 6 foot 5 inches tall, Hammer certainly has the stature for the role, plus as an added bonus he’s an amateur magician…I kid you not.
And Gale force (via):
That’s Megan Gale, an Australian Supermodel… [...]
