The “Kick-Ass” official site says this teaser trailer isn’t set to debut until 3 days from now on Myspace, but this vid that’s already up at Myspace’s Trailer Park says differently. It’s a short teaser, and pretty much what you already saw in the Comic Con bootleg versions, though without the profanity and bloodletting. It’s mildly kick ass, but I suppose that’s to be expected given that this is the filmmaker’s first real introduction of the movie to the masses. They can’t exactly go full-bore with a foul-mouthed Hit-Girl now, can they? I suspect that’s coming later in the form of a Red Band trailer, though. Really, you can’t hide the fact that this is one vulgar movie, with much of the vulgarity coming out of the mouth of a tweener.

IGN’s got your first look at four new character posters for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming “Kick Ass” movie. Basically, it’s ass shots of the four main characters in their full costume get-up getting ready for battle. Or going to a Halloween party. Hey, what do I know what they do when they’re not out fighting crime?
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.
Starring Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Xander Berkeley, Omari Hardwick, Tamer Hassan, Clark Duke, Lyndsy Fonseca, and directed by Matthew Vaughn.

After going head-to-head with big boys Paramount and Universal, little ol Lionsgate has won the domestic rights to distribute Matthew Vaughn’s sure-to-be controversial “Kick Ass”, his big-screen live-action adaptation of the vulgar, brutal, and cartoonishly violent (or is that comic bookishly violent?) comic book by Mark Millar (”Wanted”) and John Romita Jr. This follows news that all three studios were vying for the movie, which was independently financed due to the film’s violent content. It appears that move has paid off.
According to Variety, Lionsgate’s deal for the movie is described as “big”, and no doubt probably includes a pledge by the studio not to mess with the film’s content, which includes uber violence and foul language that would make the most veteran of scurvy sailors blush, all of it involving minors. For a glimpse of the movie’s controversial content, check out the Comic Con bootleg trailer.

Who says the studio doesn’t care about fanboy love? Weeks after he brought “Kick-Ass” to Comic Con, Matthew Vaughn’s live-action adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic book is getting some solid studio interest. According to THR’s Risky Biz Blog, no less than three studios are currently vying for the title, and are even willing to pony up the seven figure price tag and commit to a hefty advertisement investment to ensure the film doesn’t “sneak” its way into theaters.
After the film’s, well, kick ass debut at Comic Con, studios Lionsgate, Paramount and Universal are now itching to get their hands on the movie. This, after Sony Pictures originally considered taking on the project in the scripting stage, but when their demands that the characters be made older were spurned by Vaughn, they jumped ship. That forced Vaughn to go the indie finance route, and now it looks like the move has paid off.

In my Comic-Con ‘09 coverage I told you that Matthew Vaughn’s “Kick-Ass” panel was probably the best of the con, if the reaction to all the clips and trailer that Vaughn and company showed was any indication. Here’s that 90-second trailer. It’s strictly NSFW thanks to some crude language and an insane amount of violence, many of which come at the hands of the tweener Hit-Girl. The film doesn’t have a distributor yet, and it’s independently financed, so I’m still not sure why Vaughn hasn’t released an official version of the trailer just to more buzz for the movie. In any case, here is the bootleg version, get it while it’s still online.

Sooner or later, I knew these would show up on YouTube. I’m surprised it took this long, though. In any case, here are those four clips that Matthew Vaughn and company brought over to Comic-Con last week to show the gathered masses. As I mentioned in my coverage of the “Kick Ass” panel, a couple of these clips are pretty R-rated, especially the one that introduces the foul-mouthed Hitgirl (the last clip of the bunch), so fair warning, these are NSFW.
“Kickass” is based on the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comic book of the same name, and stars Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Aaron Johnson, Mark Strong, and Chloe Moretz.
Clip #1: KickAss suits up for the first time

Cliip #2: Big Daddy teaches Hitgirl how to take a bullet

Clip #3: The opening of Kickass

I may have missed the “Avatar” panel by a good 60 minutes, but I caught all of the “Kick-Ass” panel, and I’m glad I did. This may just end up being the highlight of the con for me, it was that good. Of course it helped that director Matthew Vaughn made the trip to San Diego armed with a pretty awesome Red Band trailer and four clips from the movie, each one more vulgar, more dangerous, and just generally more disturbing than the previous.
My reaction to everything that was shown at the panel? I give the film a 50-50 chance of actually getting picked up by a major distributor. And it has nothing to do with quality, either. From what I saw, this looks like it has the makings of a great, cult comic book movie. One of those crowd-pleasers, especially if you’ve read Millar’s comic books.
But the reason why I doubt it’ll pick up a major distributor? Kept [...]

A couple of new photos from Matthew Vaughn’s movie adaptation of Mark Millar’s “Kick-Ass” comic book. I know a lot of fanboys on the Interwebs are anticipating this thing, but let’s face it, it’s not going to do all that much business. The violence is going to keep parents from seeing this movie despite the heavy teen cast, and talks of a “Kick-Ass 2″ seems a tad premature. And while the comic book got off to a slam-bang start, it lost me about the time a tough-talking pre-teen showed up to slice some bad guys up with a sword. I mean, WTF is that about, Mark Millar? Anyways, new pics from the movie below.

There’s a lot of things wrong with this picture, and also a lot of things right with it. I’ll leave it up to you to decide how you feel. Also, “Kick-Ass” will hold a panel at the upcoming Comic-Con on July 23, so be there or, er, not be there.

Mark Millar believes “Kick Ass” the movie will be such a major hit that he foresees them shooting a sequel within two years. Or at least, that’s the plan. I personally don’t see his and Matthew Vaughn’s movie being that big, or bigger than “Wanted”, another one of Millar’s unknown comic book property turned major action movie success. For one, there’s simply too much gratuitous violence in “Kick Ass”, made even worst because it’s being done by and to kids. Trust me, if the film stays as true to the comics as everyone is claiming it will be, there’s gonna be a whole lot of issues the movie studio will have to deal with when they start showing footage of this thing to the public. Anyways, don’t tell Mark Millar that.
The comic book scribe tells SciFiWire:
Kick-Ass 2 is already being plotted out. We’re planning it, because all the actors are quite young and we have to make it relatively quickly. [...]

Wow, kick ass! (Ahem, sorry. Had to get that out of my system. Anyways, moving on.) Here’s another look at Hit Girl from Matthew Vaughn’s comic book movie “Kick Ass”. Too bad she’s not slinging around a Samurai sword and gutting gangbangers with it. You know, cause that would be really cool. Hit Girl is played by Chloe Moretz, a teen who has been trained by Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) to kill people since she was a wee bit lass. It’s not as bad as it sounds. Hey, your parents taught you how to ride a bike, and hers taught her how to shoot people in the head with a silenced pistol and chop up dudes with swords. Same difference.

It’s another look at our teenage hero Kick Ass, plus Nicolas Cage and his sword-swinging little darling girl (darling to us, but not so much to the scumbags she’s slicing up with her sword, one presumes) at home and drinking coffee. Or tea. Well, they’re drinking something and looking very homely. If by “homely” you mean extremely creepy and Bates Motel-esque. The third picture is at a comic book shop. Ah, it brings back memories to my own comic book collecting days, when I would scour those white rectangle boxes for some obscure comic book I had heard had partial nudity in it — er, I mean, those legendary issues of Daredevil. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I don’t know who this Red Mist person is, but apparently he’s one of the teen superhero wannabe characters in Mark Millar’s “Kick Ass” comic book, which is currently being turned into a movie by “Layer Cake’s” Matthew Vaughn. I haven’t read the comics past the fourth issue, so I’ve never even heard of Red Mist. At least, he doesn’t sound familiar. In any case, Red Mist is a character in the movie, and the boyos over at Aint-it-Cool-News.com have been given the first official look at ol Red Mist’s initial meeting with the lead character, who goes by the moniker of Kick Ass because, you know, that kicks ass.
Speaking of asses, after a long ass article about going to London and other ramblings about stuff I can barely keep my eyes open just reading, the AICN article finally delivers the goods. Or good, as there’s just one pic. You’d think after a five page article about his travelings, we’d [...]

The first official stills from Matthew Vaughn’s sure-to-be kickass comic book movie “Kick Ass” (aka the other cool comic book movie of 2009 not named “Watchmen”) have surfaced online via the boys over at Newsarama. If you’ve read the comics by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr., then you know this thing looks spot-on accurate, right now to the bad homemade sewing stitches on the costume. Okay, the costume itself doesn’t look so bad. In fact, I think it could have looked a little bit more “teenage boy did this”-ish, but what the hey, I’m digging this movie way too much to start nitpicking it now. Check out the pics below.

If I had to guess, I’d say that either director Matthew Vaughn himself is sending these pictures from the set of his movie “Kick Ass”, his live-action adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book of the same name, or his assistant is doing it on his orders. Because let’s face it, some random guy isn’t going around the “Kick Ass” set snapping these pics and sending them over to SlashFilm, where they’re showing up in bundles every other few days. Why? Because the Hollywood directors who have an ounce of brain cells have since realized that you can either turn the Internet movie fanboys into your allies or your enemies. Jon Favreau did it with “Iron Man”, and Zack Snyder did it with “Watchmen”. If I had to guess, I’d say Matthew Vaughn is now doing it with “Kick Ass”. But that’s just a guess, of course, I could be wrong.
In any case, more looks from the set of “Kick Ass”, [...]

In the comic book “Kick Ass” by Mark Millar, would-be costume vigilantes, hoping to imitate the book’s lead character (a teenage geek who decides to fight crime one day), puts on homemade costumes and goes out to fight crime. Of course, the imitators don’t know that before he became famous, their hero usually got his ass kicked pretty thoroughly. That was before he finally hit the big time when someone puts his heroics on YouTube. One of his imitators puts on bird wings and thinks he can fly. As it turns out, not so much, as he plummets to his death on his maiden voyage.
Matthew Vaughn, who is directing the movie version of “Kick Ass”, seems to be sticking to Millar’s comics. Here’s a picture that someone in Toronto snapped of a birdman-costumed extra laying on top of a busted taxi. The person who took the picture supposedly was passing by the set and snapped it with his iPhone. [...]

It looks like Mark Millar’s hyper violent “teen” comic book “Kick-Ass” is even closer to production, with news that Nicolas Cage, soon to blast onto movie screens with the sure to be awful “Bangkok Dangerous” remake, has joined the cast as the movie’s (probably) lone A-list star. Cage will be playing an ex-cop, and according to the description provided by The Hollywood Reporter, he appears to be playing the as-yet-unseen (at least in the comics) father of Hit-Girl, a sword-wielding killer who also happens to be a cute little tweener who loves Hello Kitty. The first time we saw Hit-Girl, she showed up at the end of the latest comic book issue to rescue our hero, who was just about to have his butt kicked six ways to Sunday and then some.
Here’s THR with the cast breakdown:
Written by Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr., the Marvel Comics’ Icon imprint book centers on a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski [...]

Comic book scribe Mark Millar has been writing about it whenever he gets the chance on his site about the upcoming movie adaptation of his “Kick Ass” comic book by “Layer Cake” director Matthew Vaughn, and now the trades are making it official: Vaughn will direct the live-action version of “Kick Ass”, about a nobody high school kid who decides, one day, to put on a homemade costume, sticker a pair of sticks to his back, and become a superhero. In the latest issue, Kick Ass (it takes him a while to come up with the name) gets into more trouble than he bargained for, but gets able assist from a female teen swinging a sword. And oh yeah, she also happens to know how to use it, too.
THR says about the impending project:
Christopher Mintz-Plasse is in negotiations, while Chloe Moretz has been cast in the film, whose violent nature has forced Hollywood studios to pass on making it. Vaughn, [...]
