Yesterday Variety revealed that Johnny Depp had signed his soul over to Disney and had agreed to front some pretty big movies, including a return to the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and a starring role as Tonto in Jerry Bruckheimer’s “Lone Ranger” big screen adaptation. Naturally, if Depp is playing Tonto, then who will be assaying the part of the mysterious masked man himself? How about George Clooney? That’s what someone who may or may not work in the industry who may or may not know anyone in the know (maybe) told AICN. Or at least, they say Clooney has “shown interest” in the part.
Thusly written via AICN:
Word as of now is that George Clooney has shown a lot of interest in the role of the Lone Ranger, and the studio’s been talking to him about it. Previously it was rumored that Nic Cage was up for the role, but that rumor died a long [...]

So, er, I guess this means Johnny Depp won’t be playing The Riddler in “Batman Begins 3″, huh? Probably not, unless Johnny Depp doesn’t need to eat or sleep, because the man currently has his hands full with three major projects in the coming years. The biggest one of all, of course, is the fourth installment in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, where Depp has confirmed that he will return as Captain Jack Sparrow. Meanwhile, Depp will also be playing Tonto in Jerry Bruckheimer’s sure-to-be-massively budgeted “Lone Ranger” movie. But wait! If you thought two mega Disney movies was more than one man can bear, Depp will also be playing the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of “Alice in Wonderland”. Seriously, where does Johnny Depp find time to see his kids and sleep with his wife?
Variety has all the Johnny Depp news you can use:
Depp has agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth [...]

Uber producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been talking up his “Lone Ranger” remake for a while now, and it appears as if Disney is just now getting in on the act. The studio is currently in final negotiations with writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, famous for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, among many, many others, to take a crack at the screenplay. Knowing Elliott and Rossio’s M.O., expect plenty of action, adventure, and at least one feisty female lead, ala the “Pirates” and “Zorro” movies, both franchises they’ve written to great success.
More:
The hero’s origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang [...]

In the canon of uber producers, Jerry Bruckheimer stands alone. Oh sure, Joel Silver may bump up against Bruckheimer’s glass ceiling every now and then, but with junk like “The Reaping” and “The Invasion”, the spread between the two producers are getting wider and wider. Bruckheimer recently sat down to talk with MTV about two future projects — “Lone Ranger”, which is being envisioned as a possible franchise ala “Pirates of the Caribbean”, and “Pirates 4″. Read on.
About “Lone Ranger”, Bruckheimer says that the new franchise won’t be an “update”, but instead more of an origins story that adheres to the character’s original traits, i.e. this ain’t gonna be Captain Jack on a horse, jack.
More:
But don’t think that means the titular hero will be anything like Captain Jack, cautions Bruckheimer, who revealed that the story wouldn’t be an update, but instead something of an origin story. That means adhering to the strict moral code laid down by “Lone Ranger” creator [...]

Every decade or so someone tries to make the Lone Ranger work. It never does. The most recent stab at the masked man was a 2003 movie (a pilot for a potential series) starring Chad Michael Murray. And yes, there is a good reason you’ve never heard of it. And now rumor has it that Jerry Bruckheimer will be transporting the people who made the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie so popular (and commercially successful) over to the western plains, namely writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio and director Gore Verbinski. If the rumor pans out, we may see a revitalization of the Masked Man, because Jerry Bruckheimer wants to bring the Lone Ranger and his Indian pal Tonto to the big screen as the next big franchise. Allegedly. This rumor comes courtesy of Collider.com, whose source claims a big announcement will be coming over the “Pirates 3″ weekend.
The Lone Ranger really should have hit it big in the movies [...]
