Being abnormally obsessed with Asian horror, about a year ago, on a whim, I bought “Into the Mirror” (“Geoul sokeuro,” 2003) through eBay. Written and directed by Sung-ho Kim, the film focuses on Woo Yeong-min (Ji-tae Yu of “Oldboy” fame), a traumatized former police officer who now works as a security guard in his uncle’s soon-to-open department store. The building, though, is plagued with problems, most notably homicidal mirrors. If this scenario sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because the South Korean film has been, surprise, surprise, remade by Hollywood. Now titled “Mirrors,” the film retains a few of the basic elements of its predecessor, but is vastly different.
The protagonist of “Mirrors” is Ben Carson (Kiefer Sutherland), a NYPD officer who has been suspended from the force for shooting someone. Even though his estranged wife Amy Carson (Paula Patton) appears to be a medical examiner (in New York the chief M.E. makes $160,000 a year) and Carson is drawing a pension, [...]

In case you haven’t figured it out from all the clips and red band trailer you’ve seen for Alexandre Aja’s “Mirrors”, his Kiefer Sutherland horror movie and sorta-remake of the South Korean movie “Into the Mirrors”, but this thing is going to be bloody. You know, back to the good old days of Aja’s earlier works; for instance, the notoriously gruesome opening sequence of his “High Tension”, which had the killer in a truck all by his little lonesome, giving himself, well, let’s just say that girl didn’t exactly approve of what he’s doing with her mouth. In that spirit, here’s the first gruesome 3 minutes of “Mirrors”.
Kiefier Sutherland is a ex NY cop battling sinister forces in mirrors that endanger both him and his family.
Starring Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, Cameron Boyce, Erica Gluck, Amy Smart, Mary Beth Peil, John Shrapnel, and Jason Flemyng. Aja, of course, directs.
The mirror strikes back August 15.

You know, from what I’ve seen of Kiefer Sutherland’s upcoming “Mirrors” horror movie, there’s the makings of a big, gross-out movie here. On par with the nastiness of Alexandre Aja’s French movie “High Tension”? Probably not. That movie had the pleasure of being really, really nasty, as well as something new we haven’t seen before, especially from the French. “Mirrors” seems to be following a pretty generic formula, but then again, there’s nothing generic about all the gore we’ve seen coming out of the movie’s camp so far.
The latest is a pic of a woman submerged in bathtub water, dead, her jaw pretty messed up. Apparently the woman in the pic is Amy Smart, though you’d be hardpressed to tell.
Director Aja sent the pic, along with this note, to Joblo:
With the opening of my film MIRRORS just a few weeks away, I thought I would share a new tasty visual from one of my favorite scenes; a scene that I [...]

With Alexandre Aja behind the camera, I knew the new Kiefer Sutherland horror flick “Mirrors” had to be better than what we previously saw in the very, very weak teaser trailer. The full trailer, and a red band one at that, definitely looks better, although I have to say, it re-uses too much of the “guy looks in mirror, looks away, and the mirror reflection is revealed to have a life of its own” gimmick; after a while, kids might start playing drinking games whenever this happens, since it seems to happen a heck of a lot in the 2-minute trailer; I can only imagine how many times Aja is going to rely on it in the actual movie. I hope I’m wrong.
In any case, red band trailer for “Mirrors” below. It’s bloody and cool, and looks like it even freaked out Jack Bauer. Just shoot it, Jack.

Granted, pretty much every type of horror movie poster you can do nowadays has been done before, and when the studio people do try to get “fancy” with their posters for their horror movies, they invariably end up aping the “Saw” posters anyway. So maybe it’s for the best that the people behind the new Kiefer Sutherland horror flick “Mirrors” decided to go for the wholly generic, “Look, it’s a horror movie! Get it? Screaming, horrified looking chick? See it now!” After all, this is already a remake of a South Korean horror movie, so it’s not like it’s overly original to begin with.
But I digress.
A remake of the South Korean horror movie “Into the Mirror”, the American remake finds a burned out ex-cop who becomes a mall security guard (Kiefer Sutherland) who becomes wrapped up in the mystery involving a particular department store’s mirrors, which seem to bring out the worst in people.

If Jack Bauer and his whispery, gravel voice is tough enough to take down terrorist scum nearly singlehandedly for the last six seasons, what chances do you think some freaky dinky ghosts living in his mirrors have? How about the same chances you don’t look like a total loser when you show up at the “Hulk” screening tomorrow all by yourself. Check out the teaser trailer for Sutherland’s latest, a horror movie called “Mirrors”. It’s supposed to be based on a South Korean movie called “Into the Mirror”, but I don’t see a whole lot of similarities between the two films from the teaser.
Speaking of which … dude, Paula Patton. Wow.

The man becomes intrigued by a disturbed woman. She claims her sister, who died in the fire, is exacting [...]

Here’s your first video look at Kiefer Sutherland’s new horror movie, “Mirrors”, via a behind-the-scenes featurette that shows scenes from the movie, including an interview with Sutherland. The film is based on a South Korean movie called “Into the Mirror”, and in it, Sutherland plays a cop suspended from the force for shooting a fellow cop during an undercover assignment. While he’s at his lowest point, he takes a job as a security guard at a mall that was recently gutted by a fire. Needless to say, bad things are afoot at said mall, and Sutherland’s character has to figure out what, and what it has to do with the fire.
Directed by Alexandre Aja (”High Tension”), “Mirrors” is scheduled for August 15, 2008.

Hollywood has remade horror movies from Asia about pretty much anything and everything, including videotapes, cellphones, and houses, so why not mirrors? That’s the haunted object in the upcoming Alexandre Aja horror movie “Mirrors”, which is based on the 2003 South Korean horror movie “Into the Mirror” (read our review of the original here). It’s been a while since I saw and reviewed the film, but I recall that it was very clever and slick, but not entirely scary. The remake will star Kiefer Sutherland, and the first image from the movie has appeared online.
The image below comes courtesy of Filmofilia.com, and shows Kiefer Sutherland as mall security guard who begins to suspect that the mirrors are more than they seem. (Hint: they are.)

Horror site Bloody-Disgusting reports that Amy Smart, last seen in the Jason Statham actioner “Crank”, has joined the cast of Kiefer Sutherland’s upcoming horror movie “Mirrors”, a remake of the 2003 South Korean horror flick “Into the Mirror”, which was visually impressive, but not entirely great. The story follows a security guard (Sutherland) at a high-end department store who begins to investigate mysterious deaths occurring in front of the stores’ mirrors. He soon discovers that there are murderous reflections out for revenge.
Besides Sutherland and Smart, the film has already nabbed Paula Patton (“Deja Vu”). French director Alexandre Aja (“High Tension” and recently the “The Hills Have Eyes” remake) will be directing.
