Even if you have absolutely no interest in Rob Marshall’s Nine, the posters should be of interest to everybody, for reasons that are explicitly clear. There are three posters that basically all use the same poses, but they feature a mixture of different characters. I assume that the media push will begin for Nine right after Thanksgiving, since the film will be released on Christmas day. Get used to seeing Cruz, Kidman, Hudson, and Fergie dancing during every commercial break so that the image is seared deep into your eyeballs and the folds of your mind. They’re really playing up the Italian angle, even though it exists only as part of the plotline, and not as the actual nationality of most of the actors. There are American, English, Spanish, French, and Australian actors, and I believe only one Italian actor – Sophia Loren. But after seeing the posters, I’m sure that most will want to “be Italian”.

In the future, apparently, everybody wears leather or robes or heavy jackets. It’s not necessarily a fashion statement; it’s just that all others clothes were incinerated during the apocalypse. I blame Mad Max for this trend, I think, unless it began before then. The poster for The Book of Eli, which debuted on MySpace, shows Denzel Washington in all of his rugged glory with implacable, badass shades and a heavy coat, so you know that he’s serious. However, the poster is somewhat plain since it only features Washington’s face. The post-apocalypse may be bleak indeed if that face is the only thing worth showing. But it hopefully will be a solid film since it’s the first movie that Allen and Albert Hughes have directed since From Hell in 2001. As the poster says, you will bELIeve on January 15th, 2010.

The Lovely Bones is Peter Jackson’s first full length feature film spent in the director’s chair since King Kong, after having spent so many years invested in high budget fantasy and action films. He returns to his roots this time with a very haunting and lovely character story, based on a lauded 2002 novel by Alice Sebold. If you’ve seen the trailer, then you know that the film has plenty of fantastical elements wrapped in a supernatural mold. Ain’t it Cool already has a review of it and lavishes it with profuse praise. While most people have to wait until December 11th for the limited release, MySpace has posted both a clip and a new poster, which you can see below. The poster looks beautiful and artistic, with almost a heavenly use of colors contrasted with the sea of bones under foot. It’s very similar to the previous poster released for the film. It’s hard to get anything from the clip, [...]

Original going by “Universal Soldier 3: The Next Generation”, it seems Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren’s return to one of their glory day franchises has been changed to “Universal Soldier: Regeneration”. I suppose that makes some kind of sense. Or as much sense as the movie could possibly make, I suppose, given its premise and what previously happened to one of the characters in the original. Thanks to reader ivica and the Dolph Ultimate fansite for the poster and DVD details.
When a team of former Soviet radicals seizes Chernobyl and threatens to unleash a lethal cloud of radioactive gas one hundred times deadlier than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, the US military brings in a bio-mechanically enhanced super soldier, Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), to foil the plot. As Deveraux fights his way into the plant, he faces off with his now revived former nemesis, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), and a newly ‘updated’ Next Generation Unisol (former UFC Heavyweight Champion [...]

And oh yeah, it also apparently has a little dash of “28 Days Later” in it, although from what I’ve seen, including the recent new faux PSA TV spot for the movie, it doesn’t look anything at all like “28 Days Later”.
Filipino director Yam Laranas did such a bang-up good job with his 2004 horror movie “Sigaw”, that he repeated the process on 2008’s “The Echo”, an English-language remake of “Sigaw” that went straight to DVD. Laranas is back with a new horror movie called “Patient X”, which has the makings of an effective “last stand in a haunted house” type, which is always something I’m down for. After twenty years, local police captures the murderer of the older brother of a young boy. Now a doctor, he must go back to his old town and face the murderers himself. He then discovers that the murderers are Aswangs (folkloric Filipino vampire-like creatures) and they pose a deadly threat not only to him but also for the entire town.

Um, well okay, not so much, but that might change after you see this promo trailer for Norton’s latest, the crime/comedy “Leaves of Grass” from writer/director Tim Blake Nelson (”The Grey Zone”). Things take a turn for the comedic when the professor is lured back to his Oklahoma hometown thinking that his twin has been murdered, only to discover that he’s been recruited by his very much alive twin for a doomed scheme against a local drug lord. Co-starring Keri Russell, Susan Sarandon, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Am I excited that the guy responsible for “Cloverfield” is helming the remake of Tomas Alfredson’s “Let the Right One In?” Not really. I suppose, if you’re illiterate or have something against Swedish cinema, the Americanized version is a good thing, as it allows you to experience this strangely heartwarming vampire story without having to listen to a foreign language while reading all of those unsightly subtitles. My attempt to disguise my bitterness towards this project has ultimately failed, though I will try my best to reserve judgment until I’ve seen the finished product for myself. If it ends up being another “Quarantine,” I will weep. Openly.
In case you missed it, here’s the premise:
An alienated 12-year-old boy befriends a mysterious young newcomer in his small New Mexico town and discovers an unconventional path to adulthood.
The kind individuals operating Horror-Movies.ca recently revealed the first poster for the upcoming production. You can check it out below.

The boys at Collider took a big deep into the American Film Market and came away with some nice goodies, including official plot synopsis and first images from a couple of highly anticipated movies.
Let’s start with George Clooney in the hitman movie “The American”. The plot sounds a tad, well, generic, what with the whole “last job” deal, but I’m sure the movie is more than its plot (hopefully):
Jack (George Clooney) is an artful assassin with a lengthy track record, constantly on the move and always watching his back. When an assignment goes wrong and a lover ends up dead, he vows that the next job will be his last. This final obligation takes him to a picturesque town nestled amongst lush Italian hills, its historical piazzas bursting with life. But to Jack, every location is a trap and every person a potential threat. Still, he surprises himself, enjoying confessional conversations over Armagnac with an [...]

I’ll get to Nicholas Cage in a moment, but my first thought was about Alfred Molina. I admit that there are far too many of Molina’s movies for me to have seen, but every time I watch one of his films, it always seems as if he plays some kind of bad guy or adversary (Chocolat, Spider-Man 2, Raiders of the Lost Ark). He can also play a very nice, pacified guy – but is that the act? Would I want to meet him in a dark alley? I don’t know, but in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice he plays a very sinister fellow, and only Nicholas Cage, as the character of Balthazar Blake, can stop him. Jay Baruchel plays Blake’s apprentice, Dave Stutler, an average guy who is recruited based on his hidden potential as a sorcerer.
The film is based on the poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, later converted into part of an animated short in Fantasia. Set pictures from [...]

Blowing up theaters in February 5, 2010, check out two posters for “Taken” director Pierre Morel’s action-thriller “From Paris With Love”. The film stars John Travolta as an American spy who tries to stop terrorists from blowing up America by blowing up Paris. Hey, if I gotta trade Paris for the good ol USA, I’ll take it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays the young American agent who must assist the badass John Travolta on his mission. Much killing, stuff blowing up, and general Luc Besson nonsensical mayhem ensue.
A low-ranking intelligence operative (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) working in the office of the U.S. Ambassador in France takes on more than he bargained for when he partners with a wisecracking, fast-shooting, high-ranking U.S. agent (John Travolta) who’s been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack.
Two posters from Lionsgate for your viewing pleasure.

I’m always up for a good Brian Yuzna movie. Although I’m not the biggest supporter of his recent output, I’m still a hardcore fan of his bizarre 1989 horror flick “Society,” as well as the highly underrated “Return of the Living Dead III.” And while you’re at it, toss his unnerving 1996 effort “The Dentist” onto the pile — I’m not ashamed. Much to my delight, Robert Hood’s Undead Backbrain is reporting that Yuzna is preparing to unleash the epic monster flick “Amphibious” upon the suspecting public, and they have plenty of snazzy pictures to prove it. Although the premise doesn’t sound completely sound, it’s got to be better than “Beneath Still Waters,” right? Just humor me.
Here’s the lowdown:
Marine biologist, Skylar Shane [Janna Fassaert], hires an expat charter boat captain, Jack Bowman [Michael Paré], to help her find prehistoric life form samples in the north Sumatran Sea. During the expedition, they run into some of Jack’s ‘friends’, a gang [...]
