If you’re one of the few people waiting anxiously for the release of Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford’s remake of “My Sassy Girl” (and judging from all the comments I’ve gotten whenever I post a story on this movie, there aren’t all that many of you out there), you won’t have long to wait. Unfortunately, you won’t be going to the movie theaters to see the romantic comedy, because according the film, based on a South Korean hit of the same name, is going directly to DVD come August 26, 2008.
Variety has the lowdown:
The remake of MY SASSY GIRL starring Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford is coming out on August 26, direct to DVD. I thought this was a bad idea, but then I saw the trailer. They’re making the right choice. Sometimes a project just doesn’t work out and while there’s probably a DTV market for a romantic comedy misfire, I doubt there’s a theatrical market for one.

Well it’s finally here, kids, the (leaked) trailer for the American remake of the mega popular South Korean romcom “My Sassy Girl”, the 2001 movie that launched the international career of its star Jeon Ji-hyun and about a gazilion imitations in its native Korea. The remake has been around for seemingly forever, and stars Elisha Cuthbert as the sassy girl of the title (who actually has a name in this version) and Jesse Bradford as a Midwest yuppie in New York who she takes a liking to. And you know what? I could see why they remade this thing. If you hadn’t seen the original (and let’s face it, 99% of the people who goes to see this thing will never have even heard of the original), it could be a semi-decent young-adult romantic comedy.
Awkward shy guy finds himself falling in love with a free-spirited girl he meets on the subway. The two are far from a perfect match, but [...]

Good God, how long has Elisha Cuthbert been shooting “My Sassy Girl”, the Americanized version of the South Korean International hit that originally starred and made Jean Ji-Hyun world famous? According to Variety, about three years and counting. And what we have to show for is is — a poster. Yes, a poster. (Thumbnail to your left, bigger version below.)
The film stars Jesse Bradford and Elisha Cuthbert, and is about a sweet Midwestern guy (Bradford) who has his life planned out for himself, and who is wooed, groomed, and ultimately dumped by a complicated, elusive gal (Cuthbert) he meets in the subway one night.
More:
Star Elisha Cuthbert has done a full season of 24, two feature films, and signed on to a variety of other projects since MY SASSY GIRL was announced, but the official site still has the film listed as “In post-production” even though Cuthbert was telling the press back in June, 2007 that she was just then finishing [...]
