Well color me fancy and smack my booty. Now this is what I’m talking about. Remember two months ago when Stallone himself seemed to confirm that “Rambo 5″ wouldn’t be taking Rambo to the Mexico-U.S. border to take on some bad dudes as we had heard, but would instead go all sci-fi on us by taking Rambo up north to hunt some Government creature, the result of an experiment gone bad? Well apparently Stallone has changed his mind. He emailed this message to the boys at StalloneZone:
Hi Craig,
This is from Sly to your followers:
To all the loyal SZoners out there,
I’m letting you know that Rambo has changed course and the story about hunting the man/beast will be done using another character in the lead. RAMBO himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished .
There will be blood.
Best,
Sly Stallone
So bye-bye shitty generic sci-fi movie about an experiment gone wrong (at least for [...]

Take a look at the post to your left. I swear, that’s not something I made up with my crappy Photoshop skills, that’s actually something, according to AICN, Sylvester Stallone’s people put together so they can start shopping “Rambo 5″ around the festivals. I shit you not. And also according to Stallone (again, via AICN, who even posted an actual voice male Stallone left on their answering machine), the plot of the fifth Rambo won’t see the undying killing machine go up against ruthless Mexican drug cartels and smugglers along the U.S.-Mexico border as previously reported by the trades, but will instead, er, have Rambo chasing supersoldiers in the Pacific Northwest. I absolutely, positively, shit you not.
Look, here’s what AICN said, just so there’s no mistake here:
You see, it is set in the Pacific Northwest. Back in the general area where we first were introduced to John. It seems that somewhere in that Area there is a U.S. Military installation [...]

Or actually, the human traffickers and drug lords that are running people through the U.S.-Mexico border for their nefarious purposes, but saying “Rambo vs. Mexico” in the title just sounded more … Rambo-er. But I digress. Variety reports that Nu Image/Millennium Films has greenlit a fifth Rambo movie, to once again be written and directed by Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone has actually been talking up the sequel for awhile now, but this will mark the first time the film has gotten the official green light from the studio. The fourth film had Rambo working part time as a river boatman when he’s not running around gutting or finger-gouging super evil mean Asian military types in the neck. Made for $50 million, the film did $42 million in domestic business and scored nearly double that ($70 million) in overseas markets.
The fifth film will find Rambo running foul of slimy human traffickers and drug lords along the U.S.-Mexico border as he attempts to [...]

It sure sounds like Sylvester Stallone is getting a tad soft in his old age. Or maybe it’s just the guys he’s playing. Or maybe it’s all about the buckaroos. According to producer Avi Lerner, who is producing both Stallone’s “Expendables” and the upcoming “Rambo 5″ (Lerner says part 5 is definitely going to happen), having such a hard “R” rating for “Rambo 4″ cost the production half of its audience. (How he knows this is beyond me.) So as a result, “Rambo 5″ and possibly “The Expendables” will be a little softer. PG-13 soft.
Via UGO, who interviews Lerner:
Also interesting, there will be both PG-13 and R rated cuts for The Expendables and they will test each to decide which to release. The Expendables is costing about 80 million dollars, thanks to so many real explosions, the star cast, and everything else that goes into making an action flick. The studio wants this film to be a big hit and [...]

Holy shit. Now this is an action troika! But how exactly is little Jet Li going to fit in with hulking cinematic killers like Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham? I guess we’ll find out when Stallone’s “The Expendables” hits the big screen, most likely next year. The sure-to-be-big action movie is the first of a two-picture deal Stallone struck with Nu Image last year after the surprise commercial and critical success of his “Rambo”. And speaking of the bow-carrying badass, Rambo will return yet again, thus completing Stallone’s deal with Nu Image. But that’s for another day. So what’s this “The Expendables” about?
Reuters, via the Hollywood Reporter, once again fills us in:
The main characters are sent to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator to liberate the population. Their team is “expendable,” hired to do jobs that no one else can or will. Principal photography will begin in February in Costa Rica and Louisiana.
So basically it’s “Rambo”. [...]

Well, sooner or later we knew John Rambo had to come home, just as we knew that sooner or later, the powers that be would do yet another sequel to the franchise. But to be honest, we just didn’t know how soon they would do it. Nary a year has gone by since “Rambo” bloodied up cinemas everywhere, and Sylvester Stallone is already back, mullet and all (one presumes), to do “Rambo 5″, which would be set in Arizona, America, as indicated by the ending of the latest “Rambo”. So then why are they shooting this thing in Bulgaria?
More:
A reliable contact for Moviehole, ‘KC’, informed us today that the next “Rambo” film will indeed be set in America – it’s just more cost-effective to do it in Bulgaria.
Says our scooper, “The street sets of Bulgaria that are getting the makeover, the same ones that were rented out and used in Van Damme’s The Shepherd, will be doubling for Rambo’s hometown, [...]

This is painful. Sylvester Stallone has told a magazine that he is, in fact, currently writing yet another installment in the Rambo franchise. Heck, he’s already halfway through it, but this time instead of a blood-and-guts war movie, Stallone will be “experimenting” with the character of Rambo. The hell you say? I’m afraid so. So why is he doing another one? The last one ended on such a great note, Rambo coming home. What not, a devilish railroad tycoon wants his farm and its up to Rambo to gut him like a fish? Egads.
More:
In an interview with Metro Magazine, Sly said he’s already begun work on “Rambo 5″.
“I would like to take Rambo to another genre, experiment a little with the character. It would definitely not be another warmovie, cuz I can’t go any further with that than what I’ve already done. What it’s going to be like I’m not going to reveal at this point. But I’m already halfway though writing [...]

Sylvester Stallone is a wanted man. No, I’m not talking about the plot of “First Blood”, the first Rambo movie, I’m talking about the man himself: after the surprise success of his latest “Rocky” and “Rambo” sequels, Stallone has now inked a deal to star and direct two action movies (notice I didn’t say Rambo sequels) for Nu Image/Millennium Films. The two camps didn’t release numbers, but it’s being called “lucrative”.
More:
Stallone also will produce the films with Kevin King-Templeton and Lerner. Dimbort, Short and Boaz Davidson will serve as executive producers.
Several scripts are being considered for follow-ups to his surprise hit sequels to “First Blood” and “Rocky.” With Nu Image/Millennium’s new WGA interim deal speeding up the process, the first script is expected to be locked and loaded by the fall, with production set to begin shortly thereafter.
You know, I’m happy for Stallone. Every time I’ve seen the guy on talk shows, he’s always come across as very affable, so [...]
