According to producer Stephen L’Heureux, who is currently working on two Frank Miller projects, “Sin City 2″ and “Hard Boiled”, the sequel to 2005’s “Sin City” is scheduled to go before the cameras in the “second half of 2010″, with Robert Rodriguez back to direct, and Frank Miller co-directing. But here’s the kicker: instead of basing the story on the “A Dame to Kill For” Sin City tale as originally expected, the sequel, says L’Heureux, will instead be based on an original story cooked up by Miller. So, no Angelina Jolie as Ava Lord?
As to the status of Miller’s hard-boiled sci-fi/actioner “Hard Boiled” (drawn in wonderfully gory detail by Geoff Darrow, I might add), L’Heureux says Miller is hard at work on the screenplay, and that he has been attached to direct. The comics, about a tax collector name Nixon who realizes he’s not really a soulless tax collector after all (you know, like a regular tax collector), will probably [...]

I’ve never seen a more enthusiastic filmmaker than Robert Rodriguez. All you need to know about this guy is that he loves making films, which also means he loves talking about making films, even when he’s not, you know, anywhere near to actually making them. Is he making “Predator”? Maybe. Maybe not. Is he making “Barbarella”? Nope, not gonna happen. What about “Nervecrackers”? Yeah, that’s still on the table. Possibly. And there’s that “Machete” movie. “Red Sonja”?
Then what about — well, look, over the years since “Sin City”, it seems like Rodriguez has been attached to more movies than Ridley Scott, but unlike Scott, he never seems to end up doing any of them (aside from the ill-received “Grind House”). But hey, don’t let that stop you from hearing what The Rodman has to say about “Sin City 2″.
The Rod was out promoting the Blu Ray release of “Sin City” (the first one), when IGN asked him about the progress [...]

As popular as the first movie was (both critically and commercially), it sure is surprising that getting “Sin City 2″ made has been something of a trial. We’re already four years in, and still no word on anything close to resembling a forward step toward production. We’ve even heard rumors that the Weinstein Company, which made the first movie, has somehow lost the rights to the sequel, although they have continued to deny this. According to this THR article, the Weinsteins may be fibbing a tad, because it sure looks and sounds like Frank Miller is trying to set the sequel up at another studio.
Here’s the down and gritty from THR:
The Weinstein Co./Dimension continue to maintain that they hold the rights to any sequel for the Robert Rodriguez film, which grossed $159 million worldwide when it came out in 2005.
But producers say they have been shopped the rights by reps for Miller’s estate, who they say are seeking a new [...]

The guys at Moviehole knows a guy who knows a guy who may work for one of the film studios who says that Angelina Jolie is THIS close to signing on the dotted line to star in “Sin City 2″ as femme fatale Ava Lord. For those in the know (i.e. anyone who reads comic books, and are thus friendless), “Sin City 2″ will be based on the story “A Dame to Kill For” that Frank Miller did as part of his “Sin City” series.
The role would be very pivotal, and the story would see the return of Clive Owen as Dwight, Ava Lord’s former beau, who must save her from some bad guys. Or at least, that’s what he thinks. It’s complicated that way, but then again, so is most “Sin City” stories. Everyone’s got an ulterior motive, but sooner or later, everyone ends up shot to pieces. That’s just how they do it over there in the [...]

While doing the promotional rounds for his make-or-break directorial gig “The Spirit”, Frank Miller was asked about two of his upcoming projects — the sequel to “Sin City” and “300″, and an adaptation of his “Hard Boiled” and “Martha Washington” comic books. Of the four, the only property Miller has done that I haven’t been too wild about is “Martha Washington”. Okay, so I probably read an issue or two of somewhere in the ’90s during the haze of Punisher cameos, but never got enough into it to actually read the whole shebang. In any case, here’s what Miller had to say about all four would-be movies.
On “Sin City 2″ to MTV:
“I’ve written ‘Sin City 2.’ Its all written. Now we’re just working out the mechanics of getting it there. Marv is in there and I hope it’s Mickey Rourke. I’ve got my Ava, but I really don’t want to talk about casting because it could end up being somebody [...]

In case you haven’t heard, Rose McGowan wants to be a big-time movie star, and in order to achieve that, she’s gonna have to star in some really big budget, high-profile movies, and not show up as a one-legged chick as part of an ensemble cast. You know, like a remake of Jane Fonda’s “Barbarella”, or playing a swordfighting, barely clothes wearing warrior chick in “Red Sonja”, or hey, how about this, starring as the female lead in the highly anticipated “Sin City” sequel, which will be based on Frank Miller’s “A Dame to Kill For” series starring a certain femme fatale name Ava Lord? Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Here’s news from the guys at ComicBookMovie.com that has Rose McGowan’s press agent written all over it. Of course I could be wrong, and in case I am, let’s just pretend I never said the above. Says CBM about the probably/in all likelihood made up news:

Star Trek 11: J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek 11″ gets a teaser poster (click on the left thumb for a bigger picture). Basically the words “Star Trek” against a starfield background and the “stardate” 12-25-08, which I’m assuming means the movie is expected December 25th, 2008. Unless stardate means something different in Star Trek land. And oh yeah, it’s confirmed that Zachary Quinto IS Young Spock, while Leonard Nimoy WILL be back to play Old Spock.
“Sukiyaki Western Django”: Takashi Miike’s Japanese spaghetti Western will have its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival. Says Variety: Shot in English, Miike’s eclectic film is centered on two gangs struggling over control of a 19th century Japanese frontier town. Movie is inspired by “Django,” the 1965 spaghetti Western helmed by Sergio Corbucci, which is unspooling in the retro.
Japanese People: According to 1,000 Japanese people polled, the “Ringu” series won out, with the “One Missed Call” series coming in second, and the “Ju-on: [...]

I don’t think Frank Miller has done anything that I haven’t loved, or at least, liked a whole lot. He’s just a great writer, period, comic books notwithstanding. I even found some snippets of “Robocop 2″, which he co-wrote the screenplay for, to be damn near brilliant stuff. The guys over at Rotten Tomatoes caught up with Frank at the Cannes Film Festival, and they have some news on almost every front that Frank is currently working in, including the oft-talked about (but as yet unseen) “Batman vs. Al Qaeda” graphic novel, aka “Holy Terror, Batman!”
So, what’s the deal with “Batman vs. Al Qaeda”? I’ve been dying to see this thing since it was announced eons ago.
Still, work proceeds at pace on Miller’s new graphic novel, rather controversially called “Batman vs. Al Qaeda.” “It’s bound to offend just about everybody,” Miller laughed, “I’m about 100 pages into it and I’ve got fifty more to go.”
Sweet. He’s 3/4ths of the way [...]

You know, I’m pretty sure I never thought Michael Madsen was a priest or anything, but even I am a little shocked by his vulgar vocabulary in this interview with Premiere. Madsen rails against pretty much everything, from Hollywood to how he’s sick of his country to his doubt that “Sin City 2″ will ever get made. His reasoning? “Grindhouse” bombed like a bastard, so there is doubt if the guys behind “Grindhouse” (Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, etc) would get the change needed to make “Sin City 2″. Now I don’t know where Madsen is getting his info, but considering how much “Sin City” made at the box office — yeah, Michael, I’m gonna go with “Yeah, ‘Sin City 2′ is gonna get made”. Call it a hunch.
Here’s the part in the interview about “Sin City 2″:

In case you haven’t heard (where have you been, living under a garage?), Frank Miller is writing and directing a live-action movie adaptation of Will Esiner’s pulp crimefighter, The Spirit. He’s since finished the script, and Variety reports that Lionsgate has acquired domestic (U.S.) and UK rights to sell the film. At the moment, Lionsgate is using Miller’s script (and no doubt, Miller’s name, the man having been responsible for creating two ginorous blockbusters in as many years, counting among them “Sin City” and “300″ (and including the upcoming “Sin City 2″)) as their sales pitch.
The Spirit is a man who fakes his own death so he can fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His nemesis is the Octopus, who kills those unlucky enough to see his face and is looking to wipe out the entire city. Miller, who first got behind the camera to co-direct “Sin City” with Robert Rodriguez, will make “The Spirit” his first [...]
