Todd McFarlane is adamant that he’s going to make his version of “Spawn” come hell or high water, and you gotta admire that kind of commitment. The comic book artist/writer turned toyline wunderkind tells MTV that the reason he’s going with a small, $5-million dollar-ish budget for his version of “Spawn” is to avoid having to deal with big studio bigwigs that will want a PG-13 rating from him. McFarlane ain’t gonna go for that.
“The reason I want to go small with it is that it’s a completely R-rated movie. If I sell it up big, studios want that PG-13. They’re a little bit gun-shy with ‘Watchmen’ not doing the numbers they’d like. But I’ve met people who make $5 million dollar movies for a living, and they walk around with the biggest grins on their faces.”
According to McFarlane, he’s still banging out the script, and seems certain he’ll have it done soon enough. As previously reported, McFarlane is looking [...]

According to Todd McFarlane, he’s officially started work on a screenplay for a new movie starring his “Spawn” character, based on a story idea he’s had worming around in his mind for the last 7 or 8 years, which is a pretty long time to have something worming in one’s mind, let me tell you. McFarlane, thanks to the power of Twitter, wanted fans to know that this won’t be a sequel or continuation of the craptacular 1997 movie, but will instead be a standalone film that, hopefully, will make people forget John Leguizamo as a wise-cracking bloated clown. One can only hope.
Tweets McFarlane:
- I’ve officially begun writing the SPAWN MOVIE screenplay. The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years. Will continue to update.
- The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a stand alone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary.
- Yes, the tone of this SPAWN movie will be [...]

The rest of the world seems to have forgotten a little comic book movie called “Spawn”, but Todd McFarlane ain’t gonna be forgetting it so easily. The comic book writer/artist/toy maker is still insistent on bringing his first Image Comics creation to life on the big screen once again, but this time on his own terms. To be honest with you, when I first heard his idea about making Spawn a shadowy bogeyman that hides in the background and is rarely seen in the movie, I thought it was kind of stupid. Now? I’m starting to warm to the idea. Why not a Spawn movie where Spawn isn’t the main character? Could work.
Here’s what McFarlane told MTV about his ideas, and why he’d want DiCaprio in the lead:
“The main character isn’t Spawn, per se, it’s the guy chasing Spawn. And I’ve always had [Leonardo] DiCaprio in the back of my mind.
“It’s a big wish, but his dad was a [...]

Todd McFarlane has been talking up a “Spawn” reboot for a while now, though I haven’t necessarily heard anyone else match his enthusiasm for the property. According to McFarlane, his new “Spawn” movie will be the kind of film where you’ll want to take your teenage dates to it. Even if, you know, your wife doesn’t know you’re dating teenagers. Anyways. According to McFarlane, he’s got literally five offers on the table from studios big and small to reboot the franchise, which McFarlane has maintained will be nothing like the dreck that came out in 1997 starring John Leguizamo as a bloated clown.
Via Topless Robot, MacFarlane boasts:
“Right now I literally have five offers on the table, everything from the big studios… to more where I’m leaning, which is more of a smaller budget – just keep it down, keep it dark, keep it grungy – I mean, I’ve got two teenage daughters, and I’m trying to come up with an [...]

I’d like to give Todd McFarlane the benefit of the doubt; after all, he was one of the original founders of Image Comics, and without a doubt one of the more innovative artists to ever work in the comic book field. He’s kind of like Frank Miller, minus the creative genius part. But man, can he draw or what? So when Todd McFarlane started making noise about not only doing a “Spawn 2″, but doing it on his own dime, and in his own way, you had to think, “Yeah, okay, maybe it’ll work.” Then came this interview with MTV, where Todd goes a little bit bonkers with the “idea” stuff.
First of all, Todd’s idea is that Spawn will barely be seen in the movie, and that it would be more about other, ordinary people who comes into contact with him. Spawn, basically, would become a bogeyman of sorts, who will show up only occasionally to do bad things [...]

Comic book writer, artist, and toy maker Todd McFarlane has decided that the 1997 movie “Spawn”, based on his comic book series of the same name, is pure crap, and he wants to make a “Spawn 2″, except this Spawn will have no ties to the last Spawn movie, and McFarlane is tinkering with the idea of just calling this one “Spawn” again. Which, if true, would be really confusing. Personally I think it would be cooler if he called it, “Spawn 2: Pwnd”. Get it? Ah, well. Anyways, Bloody-Disgusting quotes McFarlane as saying about the new Spawn script he’s writing, “I can make a spooky, suspenseful thriller that will scare the crap out of you.” I don’t know what Todd is talking about; the first one scared the crap out of me — it was that awful.
A CIA agent killed by his own boss for witnessing his corruption, Al Simmons was sent to hell. To see his wife one [...]
