Who says kids can’t appreciate a good heist film nowadays? Okay, so maybe “21″ isn’t really a heist film, more like a con film with, er, math — or something like that. What matters is that the blackjack movie, based on a true story (except the real hero was Asian, but has since been Caucasianized for the movie version), claimed the #1 spot at the box office with an impressive $23 million take in its first week of release. Jim Carrey’s animated Dr. Seuss movie, meanwhile, continues a strong run with $17 million in its third week of release, for a grand total of $117 million at the domestic box office.
Besides “21″, two other films opened at the box office this week, including the superhero spoof “Superhero Movie”, which did surprisingly well at #3 with $9.5 million, while the Iraq war movie “Stop-Loss”, about an honorable soldier who is forced back into service after his contract is up, landed at [...]

I don’t know who Miles Fisher is, but holy crap, if Tom Cruise ever needed someone to stand in for him during, say, an assassination or a repeat appearance on Oprah, he should give Fisher a call, because the guy’s impression of Tom Cruise is spot on. Check out this two-minute clip that showed up online as a promo for the movie “Superhero Movie”, the superhero movie spoof from the (signal Imperial March song) Weinsteins. It’s spot on and even beats the Tom Cruise impersonation that Jerry O’Connell did a while back.
Oh, Tom Cruise, when did your fall from grace begin, my friend? Oh right, that whole Brooke Shields debacle. Nevermind.

The comic book movie spoof “Superhero Movie” is billed as “from the guys who brought you Scary Movie and The Naked Gun”, and written on a shirt worn by Leslie Nielsen in the poster is, “With great power comes hot bitches.” Um, yeah. Once you’ve seen the trailer, you realize it’s just a “comedic” telling of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man”. Sort of. Actually, they copied whole blocks from the movie, sheesh.
After being bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly, high school loser Rick Riker develop superhuman abilities like incredible strength and armored skin. Rick decides to use his new powers for good and becomes a costumed crime fighter known as “The Dragonfly.” However, standing in the way of his destiny is the villainous Lou Landers.
I’m not sure if these “spoof movies” are still popular (didn’t “Epic” bombed?), but that’s not going to stop the guys behind “Superhero”, a movie spoof on, of course, superhero movies from going ahead with announcing the cast for their upcoming movie. As of right now, the cast includes teen heartthrob Drake Bell, Sara Paxton, Christopher McDonald, Leslie Nielsen, Kevin Hart, Marion Ross, Ryan Hansen, Jeffrey Tambor and Mr. Data himself, Brent Spiner. The film has a movie spoof vet at the helm, with Craig Mazin writing and directing, having previously worked on “Scary Movie 3″ and “4″.
And the rest of the crew behind “Superhero”? Let’s just say they’ve all been there before, according to Variety:
“Superhero” is produced by David Zucker and Robert K. Weiss. The trio of Mazin, Weiss and Zucker collaborated on “Scary Movie 3,” “Scary Movie 4,” “Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult,” “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!” and “The Naked [...]
