“Taken” was released in the U.S. as a PG-13 action film, but was originally intended as an R-rated movie. The difference will be obvious when Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment releases the movie on DVD and Blu-ray May 12th as an 2-Disc Extended Cut. Special features will include audio commentaries by the director, writer and cinematographers, and your usual exclusive behind-the-scenes “making of” featurette and side-by-side comparisons. The Blu-ray Disc will go for $39.99, with the Standard DVD costing you $34.98. Cover art and full specs below.
When a former spy’s estranged daughter is kidnapped in France, he sets out to find her at any cost. Relying on his special skills, he tracks down the ruthless gang that abducted her and launches a one-man war to bring them to justice and rescue his daughter.
There are three versions: a Blu-ray and DVD 2-disc version, and a single-disc version. Specs for the Blu-ray and DVD are pretty much identical, except the Blu-ray [...]

We reviewed Liam Neeson’s “Taken” last year (read that brilliant review here and behold its brilliance), but the film’s only now getting a Stateside release, and is scheduled to hit malls and multiplexes January 30, 2009. The French-made and set film is directed by Pierre Morel (”Banlieu 13″), and comes from Luc Besson’s Action Movie a Week factory, which pretty much translates into a movie that’s heavy on action with a barely passable storyline. You know, your average Luc Besson-written/produced action movie. Mind you, not that that’s a bad thing, given the premise of “Taken”: Liam Neeson is an ex-spy who destroys half of France in an attempt to retrieve his daughter, who has been abducted by Albanian slavers.
The five-minute clip below pretty much lays out the story act-by-act, and even shows you the final 10 minutes or so when Neeson’s character finally locates his daughter, played by Maggie Grace, and goes on a kidney punching spree that eventually involves [...]

Thanksgiving is just over the horizon, so we won’t be doing a whole lot of updates for the next few days. There may be sporadic updates, if something pops up online or in the news that needs to be covered (like, say, I’ve been named King of Hollywood or some such), but for the most part, yeah, this will probably be the last entry until Monday next week. Why? Let me count the reasons: turkey, family, friends, football, and more football. You got a problem with that? In any case, here are some new posters that have popped up online the last few days. We have new posters for the Liam Neeson actioner “Taken”, “The Reader”, and “Notorious”.

You gotta hand it to the Brits — they sure know how to do movie posters. It’s almost a sure thing that the UK quad posters will always look better than their American counterparts. I don’t know if it’s the added width space, but they always seem to jump out more when you give them extra room to do their thing. (Even if those extra spaces tend to be nothing but, you know, empty extra spaces.) Here are three new quad posters from Across the Pond: “Righteous Kill”, “RocknRolla”, and a “Taken” quad that looks suspiciously like someone aped the “Jumper” posters.

I love the idea behind Liam Neeson’s new action movie “Taken”. You may not think Liam Neeson can pull off action (then again, if you thought that, you clearly never saw “Batman Begins”), but you’d be dead wrong. Check out this latest trailer for “Taken”. In it, Neeson plays an ex-spy, now retired, who has to go back to work (if by “work” you mean bust heads, torture scumbags, and generally introduce a buttload of whup-ass to bad dudes) when some French criminals grab his daughter out of her hotel. Obviously they’re not planning on taking her shopping.
Neeson stars, and Maggie Grace plays the daughter. Famke Janssen shows up briefly as the mom and Neeson’s ex-wife in the movie. Pierre Morel, who directed “Banlieue 13″ for producer/writer Luc Besson, directs this one.
There is a tentative September 19 release date for the flick.

Liam Neeson as an ex-spy badass with a daughter and the will to torture the crap out of anyone to save his daughter? Yeah, that sounds like something I wanna see, alright. Here’s the International trailer for Neeson’s latest, “Taken”, starring Neeson, Famke Janssen, Holly Valance, and Maggie Grace. Pierre Morel (“Banlieue 13″) directs from a script by French uber producer Luc Besson.
The International trailer features a new opening and a lengthier look at Maggie Grace getting abducted and Neeson trying to talk her through the moment.
Get taken February 27, 2008.

We have three new posters for you on this closing Sunday night: one for the Sarah Michelle Gellar supernatural thriller “Possession”, a French poster for the Liam Neeson actioner “Taken”, and two Spanish posters for the upcoming “Get Smart” big screen movie with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.
Damn Anne Hathaway looks good in the “Get Smart” poster, and the “Taken” one doesn’t look half bad. The “Possession” poster is way too plain, though.

“Taken” is another action-adventure movie produced by Frenchman Luc Besson, who nowadays produces more movies than he actually directs — which, considering his last two movies (”Arthur and the Invisibles” and “The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc”), maybe that’s not such a bad thing. His latest is “Taken”, a kidnap flick starring Liam Neeson and Lost’s Maggie Grace.
The plot:
A former spy (Neeson) relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter (Grace), who has been forced into the slave trade.
Directed by Pierre Morel, and starring Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace (as a 17 year old!), and Famke Janssen. Written and produced by Luc Besson.

Okay, so the French actioner “Taken” (written and made by Frenchies but shot in English, actually) isn’t really Besson’s movie, since he’s only a writer and producer on the film, and it’s actually more like Pierre Morel’s movie, since he’s directing. Then again, we are talking about Besson, and the guy is a force, so any movie with his name attached has more than a few traits of the man in it. So I’m going to call “Taken” a Luc Besson movie and go from there. In any case, filmick points out that a behind-the-scenes clip from “Taken”, including some nifty car crashes, chases, and a brief interview with star Liam Neeson, has been posted on YouTube by EuropaCorp.
