We didn’t bother to cover Ben Stiller’s “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” because, well, to be honest with you, we’re sometimes pretty lame, but we’re not that lame. But apparently a lot of you were, because you went in droves to see Ben Stiller battle museum artifacts over the weekend to the tune of $53.5 million, far exceeding the original movie’s $30.4 million in 2006. The kids film also beat out Christian Bale’s “Terminator Salvation”, which earned $43 million over the weekend.
Although “Museum” bested “Terminator” in the 3-day total take department, McG’s sci-fi sequel actually came out on top for the entire week, thanks to an advance $13.5 million it collected when it opened on Thursday. In total, the fourth installment in the killer robot movie took in about $56.3 million to “Museum’s” 3-day take of $53.5 million. So depending on whether you want to count Thursday or not, you could make a case for either film [...]

Because a 2-minute trailer wasn’t good enough, Warner Bros. has released a 4-minute extended trailer for McG’s “Terminator Salvation”, starring Christian Bale as John Connor and some Aussie guy as some half-human, half-metal dude. You know, that old thing. Also, two clips from the movie, one featuring Moon Bloodgood taking on some hillbillies, and the other featuring John Connor in a factory for Terminators with his dad, Kyle Reese. Only his dad is younger than him and has no idea the dude next to him is his son. Yeah, it’s complicated that way.
Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. [...]

It’s always funny when two big-time Hollywood names start going at it in public like little kids at recess. Remember how much joy we got out of that brief (but oh so awesome) feud between Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood? Well they ain’t got nothing on this latest war of words. Whereas Lee and Eastwood were bickering over race relations in America or some such, it took Michael Bay and McG to bring the really big issue facing America today to the forefront. Namely, who has the bigger friggin robot in his movie: Bay with “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”, or McG with “Terminator Salvation”? Now that’s a feud, baby!
So, let’s back track. It started when Michael Bay posted this on his forum, talking about the upcoming slate of Summer movies, and then pointing out a very particular one with very particular robots in it:
Okay it’s time to turn up the heat on Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen. We’ve [...]

Britney Spears to give up self-barbering and crotchless panty partying for a role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”? Not quite, but those were the rumors that had been floating around the net this week. The culprit for the Britney story was a familiar tabloid newspaper from overseas that tend to make us lowly movie bloggers look legit by comparison. As to the Linda Hamilton in T4 rumor, that seems to have been floated by one movie site no one has heard of before, but some idiot DUGG it, and it ended up on DIGG, and everyone else picked it up.
As it turns out, both rumor items are false. They’ve both been debunked by everyone involved in both productions. In the case of the Linda Hamilton rumor, it appears the actress’ people didn’t even know anything about it, [...]

From all the advance reviews we’ve read on Christopher Nolan’s second outing as helmer of the Dark Knight, “The Dark Knight” will either be the greatest comic book movie ever made, or one of the most hyped. Knowing the Internets, it could be either/or. In today’s roundtable of “Dark Knight”-related news, we’ll start with the movies that will be showing up in front of it, namely the trailers. It’s been confirmed by Comingsoon, after weeks of rumor, that “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” and “Watchmen” will indeed premiere their trailers in front of Nolan’s movie, thus guaranteeing them, possibly, the biggest trailer debuts since, well, ever, maybe. And oh yeah, you can add Ridley Scott’s terrorism flick “Body of Lies” (with Leonardo Dicaprio and Russell Crowe) into the mix of trailers making their debut in front of the Knight, too.

The title may still suck, but if you were a fan of “Terminator” and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, you’ve been waiting for this for a very long time now — the resurrection of the Terminator franchise. And if that’s not enough, attach the biggest star among fandom at present in Christian Bale, and how could this thing fail? Well, they also attached McG, too, so that’s not so hot. In any case, “Terminator 4″ movie news have been appearing online fast and furious these last few weeks, and here is a quick rundown of what’s been happening in the world of T4.
Up first was the news from early last month that “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” was going to be PG-13, the first PG-13 rated installment in the franchise. The producers promise that the lowered rating won’t affect the film’s violence, but come on, who are they kidding? Read all about it
Then later last month, the studio finally released the [...]

With the casting of Christian Bale as John Connor, I think pretty much everyone has been wondering about the storyline of the upcoming T4 and the proposed trilogy as a whole. Would Connor be the central character? What about rumors of a new set of characters? A new terminator? Ah-nuld? Well today Bloody-Disgusting says they were given the official synopsis for the film, and it goes something like this…
Via:
The film is about John Connor (Christian Bale), now in his 30’s and soon to be wife Kate Brewster realize they must create a resistance organization with Earth’s remaining survivors against the army of robots slowly being built up by Skynet. As they are building this resistance, one survivor happens to be a traitor in disguise, and has a secret that nobody would ever come to suspect.
So they’re following up on the plot of T3, which is great. Pretty much everyone hated T3 except me. I thought it was kind of cool, [...]

Yes, Christian Bale has all but signed on the dotted line to play John Connor in the upcoming T4 relaunch of the franchise. And what kind of production will he be stepping into? One that’ll cost “north of $150 million”, for one. T4 producers Derek Anderson, Victor Kubicek, and Moritz Borman took on other rumors and speculation involving the upcoming movie with Entertainment Weekly.
Some notables:
Yes, Christian Bale will be playing John Connor. The movie will be focused ON John Connor. There WILL be a new, important character that may or may not be a Terminator. No, it won’t be Ah-nuld. Although the Governator may end up making a cameo. Maybe.
And then there’s this:
Terminator fans seem to be pretty supportive of the casting of Bale. They’re a little more skeptical about McG.

ANDERSON: People can only speak to the body of work that they’ve seen of his [including Charlie's Angels and We Are Marshall]. Some people love it and some people don’t. [...]

According to both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Christian Bale is indeed in talks to star in the next Terminator movie as an adult John Connor. Of course if you’ve read this site and others, you already knew that around Thanksgiving. Neither one of the trades have anything new to add, just to say that talks are underway.
From Variety:
Thesp is closing in on the role of John Connor in Warner Bros.’ reboot of the “Terminator” franchise.
Project puts Bale in two consecutive summer tentpoles for the studio: He will reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in “The Dark Knight” next summer, followed by “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” in summer 2009.
Bale will play Connor, now in his 30s, in the fourth installment of the “Terminator” franchise, to be set in the future. McG is directing the project, skedded for an April start in Budapest.

The confirmation comes from MSN, who cites “someone close to the production”. If true, Bale would be working under the dubious directorial skills of one McG.
More:
Bale is obviously set financially with Chris Nolan’s “Batman” series, and why would an actor who spent weeks in the jungles of Thailand with acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog want to work with a director whose career achievement is “Charlie’s Angels”? And considering how much time “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” have taken out of his schedule (the “Knight” shoot took more than six months), why would he commit to what is expected to be the first of three new “Terminator” movies?
A little while back, director McG was rumored to be in the running for the “Terminator 4″ directing gig, but I don’t think anyone took it all that seriously. Or, more specifically, I think everyone was so frightened of the idea of the guy who directed the “Charlie’s Angels” movie directing a Terminator movie that we were all hoping against hope that it wouldn’t be true. Well, it appears the Gods are once again defying the will of the Internet fanboys, and McG has officially been confirmed as directing the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise. Or at least, that’s the word from Joblo.com, so it’s still just an internet confirmation, which is about, oh, 10% less valuable than, say, a Variety or Hollywood Reporter confirmation.

Oh boy, that sure is a long name. Word from Variety is that Warner Bros. has acquired North American rights to distribute the upcoming Terminator 4 movie, now officially saddled with the cumbersome and entirely superfluous title of, “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins”. Yes, it didn’t sound good the first time I heard it, and it didn’t sound good the next five times I said it to myself, either. But in any case, Warner beat out MGM for rights to the film, which has been fast-tracked for an early 2008 production start date and a Summer 2009 release date. This is expected to be the first in an anticipated trilogy that will spin the Terminator franchise off into an entirely new direction, away from the Connor clan.
More:
A screenplay has been completed by “Terminator 3″ scribes John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and the financiers and studio are close to locking a director. While industry buzz has “Charlie’s Angels” director McG as [...]

Here are a couple of “Terminator 4″ news for those of you who still would like to see a sequel to “Rise of the Machines”. I happen to be one of them, but I know a lot of you out there didn’t care for it one bit, which is too bad for you, because I happen to think part three was pretty bloody awesome. In any case, the first bit of T4 news has to do with “Charlie’s Angels” director McG being in talks to the direct the film for The Halcyon Company (doesn’t that name just sounds like something only a Terminator movie would come up with?), while the second one concerns plot details about the upcoming film that has been revealed online.
CHUD has the news about the possible involvement of McG (geez, what a stupid name for a grown man):
The latest comes from Duckie, who has been hearing buzzing about a name that is sort of attached to [...]

About three months back, news surfaced that the Terminator franchise had been sold and the new owners were gearing up for a trilogy, with “T3″ star Nick Stahl contractually obligated to return. (Or something to that affect. Read more about it here.) I don’t think Terminator 4 has gone into production yet, but there is already a lawsuit underway, and Deadline Hollywood Daily has your 411. Apparently the dillio has to do with Halcyon, the new owners of the franchise, not liking what MGM, the franchise’s original distributors, are going around saying about having rights to the movie.
Or something to that affect. Here, I’ll let DHD fill you in, cause frankly I’m stumped:
Among other things, T Asset in the lawsuit is claiming that MGM has been telling the media “falsely” that it will distribute T4 as a tentpole central to plans to reinvent itself as a major studio. T Asset also accuses MGM of including the projected economic success of [...]

It might very well be that I am the only person in the known universe who didn’t think “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” was such a bad movie. In fact, I really liked it for the wild practical stunts it went for instead of relying solely on CGI and computer effects. So sue me, but you’ll never convince me “T3″ wasn’t a great entry into the “Terminator” franchise. That having been said, the possibility of actor Nick Stahl (star of “T3″) returning for “Terminator 4″ and beyond is great news. But what about Claire Danes? I was surprised to see an indie actress in a big-time Hollywood action movie, but she did really well. I’d love to see both of them back.
Joblo.com had this to say about Stahl’s possible return to the franchise:
Will actor Nick Stahl return to the role that Edward Furlong once made excruciating? TERMINATOR 4 will apparently involve John Connor’s futuristic crusade against those metal motherf*ckers, [...]
