Overture Films just sent over a new image from their upcoming remake of “The Crazies”. It features Radha Mitchell in a position I’ve often thought about.
Imagine living in a small town where everything is safe and happy…until suddenly it isn’t. Imagine your friends and neighbors going quickly and horrifically insane. In a terrifying tale of the “American Dream” gone horribly wrong, four friends find themselves trapped in their hometown in The Crazies, a reinvention of the George Romero classic directed by Breck Eisner from a screenplay by Ray Wright (Pulse, Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
David Dutten (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own house…after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Within days, the town [...]

I never saw the Romero original. In fact, I’ve never even heard of it until the remake was announced. As such, I have no emotional ties to the original, so I’m not at all decrying this remake from Breck Eisner, who doesn’t exactly have a stellar resume, but when you’ve got Timothy Olyphant and genre fave Radha Mitchelle, how could you go wrong? Okay, plenty of ways to still go wrong, but I’m liking what I’m seeing from this first trailer for the movie. The movie doesn’t look or feel like a world beater, but as long as it’s tense and there’s plenty of thrills, I’m in like Flynn.
A husband and wife in a small Midwestern town find themselves battling for survival as their friends and family descend into madness in The Crazies. A mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers and the authorities leave the uninfected to their certain doom in this [...]

For those of you unawares, the latest trend in moviemaking is filmmakers “tweeting” their projects online. The folks behind “The Crazies” remake are doing just that, and they’ve just tweeted a new image from their movie. (Yes, I hate myself for using words like “tweeted” as if it actually makes sense. And I hate the fact that my Wordpress edit box allows a word like “tweet” or “twitter” to go unmolested, while continually underlining the word “Wordpress” like it doesn’t exist. Seriously? What parallel universe am I living in here?) But I digress.
A mysteriously contaminated water supply turns residents of a small Kansas town insane.
Starring Timothy Olyphant, Danielle Panabaker, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, Preston Bailey, Lisa K. Wyatt, Christie Lynn Smith, Larry Cedar, and Brett Wagner. Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) directs.

Oh sure, I could have separated this post into two separate posts, and it would make sense, but then again, I like to live dangerously. It says so on my boxers. A couple of new pics today, both from horror movies, including one for Rob Zombie’s “H2: Halloween” sequel (which, according to the man himself, is totally different from the original “Halloween 2″), and the first official image from Breck Eisner’s “The Crazies”, a remake of George Romero’s movie of the same name.
First, “The Crazies” pic. That’s the film’s lead, Timothy Olyphant (”Hitman”), looking like he’d rather be somewhere else right about now. Via ShockTilYouDrop.

This is Michael Myers going to the hospital. As you can see, they asked for insurance, and when he didn’t have any, they turned him away. Michael was NOT happy. Via Zombie’s blog.

Danielle Panabaker (pictured, below) and Joe Anderson (pictured, left) have joined the cast of Breck Eisner’s “The Crazies”, a remake of George Romero’s movie of the same name, about a small Kansas town beset by insanity and madness after one of those secret Guv’ment planes crash nearby and poison their drinking water. See, this is why I only drink bottled spring water from France.
THR has more on their characters:
Panabaker plays a receptionist at the town’s medical center. Anderson takes on the role of the town’s deputy.
The film stars Timothy Olyphant (”Hitman”) as the Sheriff who has to deal with the madness, and Radha Mitchell (”Rogue”) as his Aussie-accented wife. Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) directs from a script by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright.
Overture has the film scheduled for a late 2009 release date, which seems a tad optimistic to me, but there you go.

To be honest with you, I kind of wish George Romero had decided to direct this remake of his 1973 movie “The Crazies”. At least this way we could keep him from doing another movie about zombies. Obviously I have nothing against zombie movies (I love me some zombie movies), but the way ol Georgie is going right now, it feels like I’m watching the same movie over and over again. But in any case, “The Crazies” is coming, and a teaser poster has popped up online.
The plot for the remake, to be directed by Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) remains the same as the original, with the military attempting to contain a killer man-made virus that causes death and permanent insanity in those infected. The action takes place in a small town, where “Hitman’s” Timothy Olyphant is the Sheriff and Radha Mitchell (”Man on Fire”) is his wife. And according to IMDB.com, some guy name Joe Reegan will be playing a [...]

“The Crazies”, a remake of George Romero’s 1970s movie of the same name, may have nabbed its leading lady in Radha Mitchell, says horror site Shock-til-you-drop. I wouldn’t be surprise if this is indeed the case; Mitchell is no stranger to genre fare, with flicks like “Pitch Black”, “Silent Hill” and the more recent “Rogue” on her resume. No, not the one with Jet Li and Jason Statham, the one with the giant crocodile set in Australia. You know, with that guy from Alias. It’s actually a very decent creature movie, so check it out if you haven’t. Or don’t. See if I care.
Presumes STYD:
We presume she’ll be playing the wife of Olyphant’s sheriff character who is faced with a biological weapon that has infected the town’s water supply thus making the residents violently loopy.
Breck Eisner is directing from a script by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright. George Romero won’t be calling the shots this time around, but I’m sure [...]

Breck Eisner’s remake of George Romero’s ’70s horror flick “The Crazies” has landed its leading man in former Deadwood star and Die Hard villain Timothy Olyphant, who according to the trades, has signed on to play a sheriff in the flick. The movie concerns a small town that becomes contaminated when a plane carrying a secret biological weapon (are there ever any other kind?) crashes into their backyard and contaminates the water, turning the townspeople into the crazies of the title. One presumes the Army then shows up to try to “contain” the chaos by, most likely, doing what all U.S. army personnel usually do in movies about raving lunatics with zombie-like qualities, try to kill everyone in town, nuke them from orbit, or some such. You know, predictable Hollywood stuff.

News that Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) was going to direct a remake of George Romero’s 1973 kinda-horror pic “The Crazies” surfaced earlier this year, but apparently it’s just now gone official. The film itself is set for production next year, so it’s now going into pre-production for the shoot. As we already know, Eisner will direct, and Romero will produce the remake for Overture Films. Yes, Romero has not only given the remake his blessings, but he’s involved with producing, which means he gets a swanking new trailer and a nice big check.
Via Variety:
Redo will be directed by Breck Eisner from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce; Romero will serve as executive producer.
Production is set to begin early next year.

A pair of horror movie news for ya today. First up: Wes Craven returns to the horror game with “25/8″, which will be based on his original script, his first since 1994’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” sequel, “New Nightmare”. Secondly: Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) will be directing a remake of George Romero’s 1972 horror classic “The Crazies”.
More about Craven’s “25/8″:
Craven said the film unveils a signature villain, a serial killer who turns up 15 years after his purported death, to kill the seven children born on that fateful night.
“It’s more a thriller than slasher film, and revolves around a young kid with a very dark past involving his family and his father,” Craven told Daily Variety.
Craven also talked briefly about the upcoming “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake — mainly, he has nothing to do with it.
As to “The Crazies”, it’s about “a small Pennsylvania burg terrorized after a plane crash drops a biological weapon into the water.” No, not [...]
