Andrew Lau’s American debut “The Flock” opens with a disturbing factoid: There are over half a million registered sex offenders in the United States, and for every thousand, a single person is assigned to monitor them. And that’s just the registered sex offenders, mind you; that is, the ones that have been caught. Can you imagine how many of them are actually out there, waiting, that have yet to be caught, and will never be caught? What terrible, sick acts are they contemplating at this very moment? Such is the sad and twisted world of Erroll Babbage.

So what happened to that Richard Gere and Claire Danes thriller “The Flock”? News about the film surfaced last year, and got a lot of people interested not because of Gere or Danes (really, are these two still stars?), but that Andrew Lau would be making his Hollywood directorial debut with it. Andrew Lau, aka Wai Keung Lau, is a longtime Hong Kong director, and was one half of the directing powerhouse behind the “Infernal Affairs” films. A Japanese trailer for the movie is now available (see below) via Mad About Movies, and I believe it’s one of the few things that has been seen from the movie in a while.
