“The Good, the Bad, the Weird”, the latest film from Korean master director Kim Ji Woon sees him delving into yet another genre, having tried his hand at horror with “A Tale of Two Sisters” and gangster melodrama with “A Bittersweet Life”. As can probably be gleamed from the title, the film pays tribute to the iconic western “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” by Sergio Leone, a director he had long admired and whose works he had frequently referenced in the past. Of course, with this being a Korean production, the film was labelled a “kimchi western” rather than a “spaghetti western” – underlining not only its nationality but also the sense of dynamism and spice that Kim injects into the proceedings.
With a cast that boasts three of the Korean industry’s biggest names, the film does represent somewhat of a change of pace for the director, being far more upbeat and action packed than his last few [...]

New gallery additions for ya today: more “Twilight” pictures, because what would a gallery addition entry be without new “Twilight” pictures for all those vampire-lovin’ kids out there? Also, remember those character posters that Warner Bros. released for “Watchmen” a few days back? Well, we have the high-res versions of those now in our “Watchmen” gallery. And hey, what’s this? Oh look, it’s more pictures from the Clive Owen political thriller “The International”, featuring Clive doing stuff like running around. Action-packly, of course. Finally, an English/International poster for the Korean Western “The Good, The Bad, and the Weird” looks pretty spiffy.
In the new gallery area, we’ve put up a new listing and a movie gallery for Adam Sandler’s latest comedy, “Bedtime Stories”, which has Sandler playing an idiot that stupid things happen to. You know, the usual Sandler comedy. Keri Russell and Lucy Lawless comes along for the laughs in this one.

In the opening scene of this full trailer for Kim Ji-Woon’s tribute to Spaghetti Westerns, a character with two guns enters a train, chewing gum, and begins shooting people without a word; at which point he remembers to tell them not to move, then shoots another person trying to get up after having been shot a second ago. Priceless stuff, and precisely the reason why “The Good, The Bad, and The Weird” is the first Korean movie I’ve wanted to see — as in, I really, really, REALLY want to see — in God knows how many years.
I have to admit, my enthusiasm for Korean cinema has dropped off noticeably in recent years, mostly because they insist on making crappy romcoms that are carbon copies of “My Sassy Girl” (still, 7 years later!), and the latest horror movie about haunted inanimate objects.
But “The Good, The Bad, and the Weird”? Holy God this thing looks good. Production was rumored [...]

I haven’t been keeping up with Kim Ji-Woon’s latest, a Korean Western called “The Good, The Bad, and The Weird” in recent months, mostly because it’s Korean and I don’t have that much insight into Korean movie news; plus, I just assume it’ll be out when it’ll be out, and leave it at that. But anyhoo, the first footages from the movie, courtesy of a Korean news broadcast, has appeared online.
The boys at Twitch had this to say about Kim Ji-Woon’s movie:
It’s over schedule and so badly over budget that it’s had to move to a larger production company to get the funds needed for completion…
All that’s probably true, but I’ll be damn if these footage don’t look pretty cool. Then again, what would you expect from the guy who did “A Bittersweet Life” and “A Tale of Two Sisters”?

Here’s another news broadcast of the flick featuring some footage, also from Korea:

Three new images from Ji-woon Kim’s upcoming South Korean take on the spaghetti Western genre, “The Good, The Bad, and The Weird” have surface via Variety. The film itself is still in production, but it is shaping up to be some pretty good stuff — that is, if you like this kind of stuff, which I kinda do. More about it: “The movie set in Manchuria during the early 1900s, building off a string of Korean genre films from the 1970s that combined the aesthetics of the Western with outlaw movements aligned against Japanese colonial forces. Jung will play the good guy, a bounty hunter; while Lee will take the role of the bad guy, a hired gun- and swordsman; and Song will play the weird guy, a train robber who rides a motorcycle instead of a horse.”

The Korea Pop Wars blog has landed your first look the posters for writer/director Ji-woon Kim’s upcoming Korean Spaghetti Western “The Good, The Bad, and The Weird”. They look pretty good, although for a moment I though the Byung-hun Lee one was from his movie “A Bittersweet Life”, but apparently not. Anyways, check out three separate individual posters and one that combines all three. The film will be set in 1930s Manchuria and follows three men played by Kang-ho Song, Woo-sung Jun, and Byung-hun Lee as they resist the Japanese occupation.
The text on the posters read:
Poster #1 – Never be sure who is good, bad or weird in 1930s Manchuria
Poster #2 – A man who was too proud to be bad
Poster #3 – A man who desired too much to be good
Poster #4 – A man who was too wacky to be good or bad

You gotta love the idea of the Koreans doing their take on the classic Spaghetti Western ala Sergio Leone and the Man Without a Name. And the fact that it’s being helmed by Ji-woon Kim, whose last movie “A Bittersweet Life” was one of the most refreshing crime actioners to come out of that country in a long while, just makes “The Good, The Bad, and the Weird” that much more highly anticipated. (I’m really not sure why they changed “the Ugly” to “the Weird”, but maybe it’s a Korean thing.) Information on the film is scarce, but I found this description via the Korean Film Council:
A so-called “Korean-style Western” set in Manchuria during the early 1900s, the film ranks as one of the highest-profile Korean films scheduled to be shot this year. The casting of three major actors in a single film also makes it a virtual showcase of Korean star power. Produced by Barunson and sold [...]
