Don’t even ask me how this one works — “The Host” was a surprise South Korean monster movie that hit it big, with rumors of remakes on the way. The remake seems to have been shelved (at least temporarily, since we haven’t heard anything about it yet), while the Chinese have now stepped up to take over the franchise by producing a part 2. Yes, that’s right, the Chinese. How a South Korean movie became a Chinese movie, with a Chinese director (”Crazy Stone’s” Ning Hao) set to write and direct, is a mystery, although I’m sure fronting half of the production’s $12 million dollar budget had something to do with it.
The plot of the sequel according to Variety:
New pic will have to tread carefully to avoid criticizing the Chinese government. Story will concern a calamity caused when people ignore a monster due to their desire for money.
Then I’m sure the monster tries to eat the Chinese Government, only to [...]

No, it’s not Monster Day here at BeyondHollywood.com, it just so happens that there are two monster movies of real interest to people currently flowing through the Interweb, and one of them is the prequel to the South Korean flick “The Host”. Nothing really new here, but there is a sketch of what the monster (one of many, apparently) in the prequel will look like.
More:
The story is set in 2003 when the restoration was at an early stage. Principal characters, such as street vendors, demolition contractors, and policemen are involved with the disorder and conflict caused by the restoration— one of which is, or course, the monsters from underground. The script, written by well-known comic artist Kang Full (as previously reported in SciFi Japan’s THE HOST 2 Update), was submitted on December 20, 2007 after six months of writing. The press release confirmed that the sequel is actually a prequel, which will fill in the blanks of the prologue of [...]

The boys over at Twitchfilm have learned some more details about the upcoming “The Host 2″, the sequel to the Bong Joon-Ho movie about a killer monster who comes out of the Han river to snack on some humans. Namely, that the sequel will in fact be a prequel, and will feature more monsters, as all sequels invariably do.
More:
The script is being handled by Korean comic artist Kang Full and is set three years prior to the events of the original film. Details are scarce so far but word is this one revolves around the excavation of the Cheonggye Stream – an ancient waterway running through Seoul that was recently reclaimed and restored after years of being covered by a highway – and will feature multiple monsters. Shooting is slated for later in 2008 with a 2009 release planned.
No surprise. Bigger and bloodier is the motto of all monster sequels, even the Korean ones.

Korean director Joon-ho Bong may not want anything to do with a sequel to his surprise international hit “The Host”, but the producers of the movie are moving forward anyway. I guess however you slice it (or in what language), “sequels mean quick cash” translates just as well in English or Korean.
More:
Shooting is expected to begin in late summer of 2008 and the finished film is planned to be released in 2009. The production budget is reported to be higher than the original film’s 10 billion Korean won (approximately $10.9 million US). The director or principal cast are not yet confirmed. The producer said that he had various versions of how to make the sequel and he would first hire ’supervisors’ to help him decide one.
Sequels are nothing new in Korean cinema, of course. Moviemaking, in whatever language, is a business, and something of “The Host’s” level of success can’t be ignored. An American remake of “The Host” was also [...]

It appears the Koreans are not averse to unnecessary sequels to hit movies, much like their Hollywood counterparts, when there is money to made. (Then again, if you follow Korean cinema, you already know this…) With that in mind, reports have surfaced that a sequel to the Korean Creature Feature hit “The Host” is under way, but without original director Joon-ho Bong, who is apparently already at work on a new movie. No information about the sequel is available, but chances are that the creature (or, if it follows the Golden Rule of Horror Sequels, MORE of the creatures) will be back.
In the original, the creature at the center of the carnage was unwittingly created by the American Military (a real-life source of massive hysterical anger for the Koreans), who came out of the Han River to gobble up tourists and Koreans, and abduct a member of a dysfunctional family who makes it their mission to get her back.
The original [...]
