Oh, Hollywood, why must you continue to rape my childhood memories? Anyhoo. The latest from Lalaland is a rumor by Bloody-Disgusting that someone name Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. has been hired to direct a remake/prequel to the 1982 original starring Kurt Russell and directed by John Carpenter, which was itself a remake of the 1951 original “The Thing From Another World”. So yes, they’re remaking a movie that was already a remake of another movie. Basically, it’s Hollywood feeding on its own tail once again. Seriously, if this town got any more creatively bankrupt — wait, never mind, that’s obviously an impossibility at this point. Moving on.
Besides giving us the name Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (who is slated to direct Zack Snyder’s Vegas-filled zombie flick “Army of the Dead”) as a possible director for the prequel/remake, BD also says they know what the movie is about, and it goes something like this:

Ronald Moore, the mastermind behind the relaunch of “Battlestar Galactica”, essentially turning a wacky sci-fi show about lasers and robots into a gritty, depressing show about robot holocaust and bickering humans, is currently writing the sequel to Alex Proyas’ 2004 “I, Robot”, starring Will Smith. This news comes to us courtesy of Collider.com, which got to interview Moore about Battlestar and then stumbled across this news. Now personally I don’t know if a sequel is needed, but in today’s climate of Remake Happy Hollywood, I’m not at all surprised.
More from Colider about the sequel:
The biggest news I got from him is in part 2. It seems that he’s writing a sequel to the Will Smith movie “I Robot” and while I tried to get info from him on the story… he was silent. And at the end of the interview I went back to trying to get some info by asking about the budget and if he wrote it for [...]
