Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell have joined Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s “The Tourist”, a remake of the French movie “Anthony Zimmer”. The film finds Jolie playing a hard-charging Interpol agent who uses Depp to capture a notorious criminal who also happens to be her ex-lover. No word on what characters Bettany and Sewell will be playing, but it’s probably a given one of them (or maybe both) will be a bad guy. They have the accents for it, after all.
“The Tourist” is currently shooting on location in Venice, Italy.

MTV’s got your first look at Angelina Jolie on the set of her thriller “The Tourist”. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directs the film, which is based on the French movie “Anthony Zimmer”. The film stars Jolie as an Interpol agent who is using Johnny Depp, playing the titular tourist, to capture a notorious criminal who also happens to be one of her former lovers. The movie is currently shooting on location in Paris, France.

In other Jolie news, the actress appears to have officially signed on to play Patricia Cornwell’s female heroine Kay Scarpetta for Fox 2000. But the big news is that, instead of adapting one of Cornwell’s Karpetta books (she’s written 17 so far), the studio has instead hired screenwriter Kerry Williamson to write an original Origins Story for the character.
Says Williamson:
“There’s almost like this brewing passion in her, and intensity and sexuality that she doesn’t feel comfortable unleashing. In the books, she’s further along as a character, at [...]

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: “The Tourist”, a remake of the French thriller “Anthony Zimmer”, has lost its leading man. Oh, and it’s also lost its director. On the bright side? Johnny Depp is currently in negotiations to take over the leading man role, recently snatched up only to be ditched by Aussie “it” boy Sam Worthington. Also departing: director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who was announced as joining the picture less than a month ago. Word is, both are leaving because of the ever-popular excuse, “creative differences”.
The Depp role is that of an American tourist in Europe who is drawn into a plot to capture a notorious criminal by a determined Interpol agent to be played by Angelina Jolie. The role was originally Tom Cruise’s, but he bailed and was replaced by Worthington. You gotta wonder where Depp is going to get the time to do another movie in 2010, what with “Pirates of the Caribbean 4″ [...]

After lots of fits and starts, and a star or two falling by the wayside, Spyglass is getting some traction on their “The Tourist”, a remake of the French film “Anthony Zimmer”. Besides swapping Angelina Jolie for Charlize Theron (an upgrade, in my opinion), the studio now has a new name for the director’s chair: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Von Donnersmarck is an Academy Award winning director (his “The Lives of Others” won the Best Foreign Language Oscar in 2006), and had to be first approved by Jolie before Spyglass would even approach him.
With a star and possible director onboard, the movie is now on schedule for a 2011 release. Unfortunately for all of you waiting for a “Wanted” sequel, that means Jolie will be a tad busy, as she’ll be making “Tourist” her next movie after wrapping the spy thriller “Salt”. “Wanted 2″ will just have to wait.
Sam Worthington will co-star in “Tourist” as a clueless American tourist [...]

Charlize Theron as an Interpol babe looking to use Sam Worthington to ambush a criminal might have been interesting, but Angelina Jolie in the same role just makes sense. It is, after all, one of those sly, seductive, badass roles that Jolie seems to have cornered in recent years, with turns in “Wanted”, the “Tomb Raider” movies, and the upcoming “Salt”. Her latest may be replacing Theron on the thriller “The Tourist”, though no one has confirmed Theron’s departure or Jolie’s interest as yet.
A remake of the French thriller “Anthony Zimmer” from 2005, “The Tourist” was originally supposed to star Tom Cruise as an American tourist who is thrust into Interpol’s manhunt for a wanted criminal. The role has since gone to Hollywood “It” boy Sam Worthington. Theron would have played the Interpol cop chasing the criminal and who decides to use the tourist to do it.
Maybe. I’ve read about five descriptions for the original and the remake, and [...]

Aussie actor Sam Worthington’s plan to take over all of the leading man role in Hollywood continues unabated, as the “Terminator Salvation” star has now signed on to replace the departing Tom Cruise in the spy thriller “The Tourist”. The film, a remake of the French 2005 flick “Anthony Zimmer”, holds onto one half of its original star in Charlize Theron, who will play an Interpol agent that will do anything to get her man, even use a poor tourist played by Sam Worthington. The catch? The guy she’s after is her ex-lover. Oooh, pillow talk.
Bharat Nalluri (“Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”) will be directing the Spyglass Entertainment thriller from a screenplay by Julian Fellowes, Bill Wheeler and Christopher McQuarrie, who last worked with Cruise in the World War II movie “Valkyrie”.
Considering Cruise’s recent spate of box office bombs, his leaving the project probably didn’t have the producers running around pulling out their hair. If anything, they might [...]

When they put their mind to it, the French can make some pretty decent thrillers (see 2002’s “The Nest” for one of the best shoot’ems put out by the country in recent memory). 2005’s “Anthony Zimmer” may be one of those movies. A thriller/crime drama about an ambitious female Interpol agent (played by Sophia Marceau) who uses a clueless rube to catch an elusive criminal. Or at least, that’s the original premise of the original. The American remake, since retitled “The Tourist”, will star Charlize Theron in the Marceau role, and maybe Tom Cruise as the rube, or perhaps the criminal mastermind being sought. (Or perhaps both, since the rube and the criminal mastermind are supposed to look alike.) The French original was written and directed by Jérôme Salle, but the remake will be directed by Bharat Nalluri, a veteran of TV whose last big movie was the Godawful “Crow” sequel “Salvation”.
Says Variety about the remake:
In the Julian Fellowes-scripted drama, [...]
