More images from Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler”, starring Mickey Rourke as a has-been wrestler who gets another shot at glory, even as he tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter. The first trailer for the movie was released last week, and it’s definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it yet. Here are more images from the movie, featuring director Aronofsky in those “director shots” that studios love to put out, including Evan Rachel Wood as the Wrestler’s daughter and Marisa Tomei as his stripper gal pal.
An all-but-unrecognizable Mickey Rourke stars as an aging Hulk Hogan-inspired professional wrestler, desperately trying to hold onto his larger-then-life glory days of the 80s. In a parallel plotline, Marisa Tomei costars as an aging stripper, also holding onto her youth as long as she can. Shot with ample use of hand-held, documentary-style cameras, Rourke and Tomei give outstanding performances in challenging roles (Rourke reportedly bulked up 35 pounds for the part), while director [...]

I had an inkling that when I began seeing images from Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” that this thing had potential to be as good as, say, Clint Eastwood’s “Million Dollar Baby”, the last “tough guy” movie that made me feel all sorts of unmanly things that manly man aren’t supposed to feel. After playing Marv in “Sin City” and now this, I don’t think there’s any doubt that Mickey Rourke is just now hitting his stride as an actor, and with a hell of a lot left for him to do, too. There are some great stuff in this trailer, folks, and I’m not just talking about the formerly chaste Marisa Tomei playing the stripper girlfriend to Rourke’s broken down wrestler, buy yeah, that’s probably going to prove pretty awesome, too. Behold, the first trailer for “The Wrestler”.
Back in the late ’80s, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a headlining professional wrestler. Now, twenty years later, he ekes out [...]

Mickey Rourke has sure seen better days. But then again, maybe that’s the point of this poster for Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler”, one of those movies that will either make you want to slit your wrist while you’re watching it in the theaters, or come out of the darkness happy to be alive. I can’t tell where Aronofsky is going with this, but let’s hope it’s not the 100% depressing shit that I suspect it to be. Anyways, here’s a new poster for the movie, which features Mickey Rourke apparently in the middle of getting his ass kicked in the ring.
The wrestler is the story of retired professional wrestler, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (played by Mickey Rourke), making his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival.
Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tome, Mickey Rourke, Judah Friedlander, Mark Margolis, Giovanni Roselli, Todd Barry, Vernon Campbell, Wass Stevens, Gregg Bello, [...]

Darren Aronofsky seems to have a thing for movies about sweaty, shirtless men trying to beat the living bejesus out of each other in the comfy confines of a ring. With his “The Fighter” boxing movie snatching up A-list stars like Mark Wahlberg and Brad Pitt, Aronofsky has found his muse for his other ring movie, “The Wrestler”. It’s none other than Mickey Rourke, Marv from “Sin City”. According to Variety, Rourke would play the character Randy “The Ram” Robinson,” an over-the-hill wrestler who returns to the ring for one last shot at glory. The role was earlier attached to Nicolas Cage, but it appears he’s since left the ring.
More:
Aronofsky and Robert Siegel wrote the script for “The Wrestler,” about an over-the-hill grappler who returns to the ring for one last shot at glory.
Rourke, who once took time away from his screen career to become a boxer, has been enjoying a film resurgence that began with “Man on Fire” and [...]
