Or perhaps, just the biggest movie of 2009. Either/or. According to the folks at online movie ticket vendor Fandango, advance ticket sales numbers for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has easily beat out every movie in the company’s 10-year history, including “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Stars Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith.” The film is also MovieTickets.com’s bestselling pre-sold title in its history. All that is leading industry insiders to predict something in the range of an $85 million opening weekend for Summit’s tale of lovelorn High School girls and their vampire/werewolf crushes. My own guess? Somewhere closer to $100 million.
To capitalize on the Chris Weitz-directed “New Moon”, Summit will be re-releasing the first “Twilight” (which has grossed over $380 million worldwide) back into 2,057 theaters on Thursday. It will then deliver “New Moon” into 3,500 theaters for its Thursday midnight showing, and expanding it to 4,024 by Friday morning. Basically, if you’re a diehard [...]

Okay, so you may know that “Twilight” is pretty popular with the kids. Hey, what kid doesn’t like to fantasize about romantic, pale vampires taking them to the prom? I know I did when I was a young’un. Except my vampire had cleavage. But I digress. Summit Entertainment must be howling with glee right now, because the “Twilight” DVD has arrived and promptly sold a whopping 3 million copies in its first day on the market.
And you’re wondering why Summit already has a “Twilight” sequel scheduled to open later this year, and the third in the trilogy opening in 2010? Strike while the iron is hot, as they say. Kids these days, they’re so fickle, before you know it they’ve already moved on to some other thing like their Hannah Montanas and their Jonas Brothers, etc. Geez, I sound like a 70-year old hermit. Get off my lawn, you damn kids!
Below is what the “Twilight” DVD looks like. If [...]

Hear that? That’s the sound of Twilighters screaming their heads off at the news that they’ll be getting their hands on a “Twilight” movie DVD as soon as March 21st, 2009, when Summit Entertainment releases the teen vampire flick into stores as a Two-Disc Special Edition. The release date is an odd one, because it means the DVD will hit stores on Saturday instead of the usual Tuesday, when new releases are usually released. According to Summit, the reason is simple: they’re encouraging Twilighters to get together for makeshift DVD release parties. Mind you, not that they wouldn’t have done likewise for a Tuesday release, school days be damned.
So what can Twilighters expect from the DVD? Here is a list of the special features:
* Presented in widescreen format only
* Audio commentary by Catherine Hardwicke, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson
* Muse music video: “Super Massive Black Hole”
* Paramore music video: “Decode”

In today’s totally WELL, DUH! movie news, Summit Entertainment has announced (actually, they announced it on Saturday) that the studio is officially moving ahead with a sequel to “Twilight”, to be based on the second novel in the series by Stephanie Meyer, “New Moon”. So why did Summit send out the press release on Saturday, of all days, and not wait for Monday after “Twilight’s” final weekend box office receipts came in? Well probably because they already knew that the movie had made a whopping $30 million plus in just one day. Yeah, that’ll do it.
Here’s the PR from Summit:
SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL – NEW MOON
Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series [...]

Never underestimate the buying power of America’s tweeners. That seems to be the lesson here for anyone who still doesn’t think there is money to be made among the sea of book reading girls out there, as “Twilight”, the first movie based on author Stephanie Meyer’s uber hot selling “Twilight” series of young adult novels, scored an impressive $70.6 million in its first weekend, according to industry estimates. That’s good for $20,636 per theater that had the common sense to book the film, in case you were wondering. The teen vampire movie about forbidden romance between a vampire and a spunky High School girl easily took the box office crown, with James Bond’s “Quantum of Solace” taking second place with $27.4 million in its second week of release. The weekend’s only other new release, the animated comedy “Bolt” scored the third spot with $27 million.
“Twilight’s” huge opening has it primed to easily best the other big tweener movie of the [...]

It’s got the potential to be the biggest thing to hit the multiplexes since a certain British kid and his flying broom. It’s “Twilight”, the teen vampire movie that has been sold out across the land for weeks now ahead of its Friday opening. Yes, that means it’s opening today, and chances are if you have a literate teenage daughter and you notice she’s suddenly missing and hasn’t been seen from for a few hours now, it just means she’s either camping out at your local theaters, or she’s constantly buying tickets to see “Twilight” over and over again cause gosh darn it Edward is just that hot. If this thing doesn’t make a mint at the box office this weekend, color me surprise and call me Sally.
The Twilighters will definitely be seeing it, but what about the critics? It’s not looking good for the old farts. As of this writing, Rotten Tomatoes currently has the film listed at [...]

Give Summit Entertainment all the credit in the world. Their publicity machine for “Twilight” has been working overtime, hitting all the right places and getting all the Twilighters out there all in a frenzy just waiting to crash the film’s November 21st, 2008 opening. If this thing doesn’t open big — REALLY BIG — I’m going to eat my shoe. And Summit knows it, too, which is why they’ve already nabbed the movie rights to Stephanie Meyers’ next three books in the “Twilight” saga — “New Moon”, “Eclipse”, and the most recent, “Breaking Dawn” — and assigned “Twilight” writer Melissa Rosenberg to get to work on adapting “Moon” and “Eclipse” into screenplays. No surprise, given that rumors of a “Twilight 2″ being quickly ushered into development had already surfaced last month.
For those who haven’t a clue about these “Twilight” books of which I speak, here are the cursory plots for all four of them (via Amazon.com). Why should you [...]

New gallery additions for ya today: more “Twilight” pictures, because what would a gallery addition entry be without new “Twilight” pictures for all those vampire-lovin’ kids out there? Also, remember those character posters that Warner Bros. released for “Watchmen” a few days back? Well, we have the high-res versions of those now in our “Watchmen” gallery. And hey, what’s this? Oh look, it’s more pictures from the Clive Owen political thriller “The International”, featuring Clive doing stuff like running around. Action-packly, of course. Finally, an English/International poster for the Korean Western “The Good, The Bad, and the Weird” looks pretty spiffy.
In the new gallery area, we’ve put up a new listing and a movie gallery for Adam Sandler’s latest comedy, “Bedtime Stories”, which has Sandler playing an idiot that stupid things happen to. You know, the usual Sandler comedy. Keri Russell and Lucy Lawless comes along for the laughs in this one.

What would another round of gallery additions be without more released images and character posters for the teen vampire flick “Twilight”? At this point, this is looking like it’s going to be a monster at the box office. There are also new images for Tom Cruise’s “Valkyrie”, which is probably the exact opposite of “Twilight” in terms of expected box office. And lastly, Bond’s return to the big screen in “Quantum of Solace” is accompanied by another mega batch of images. Meanwhile, new movie galleries are up for the indie horror flick “Splinter”, starring Jill Wagner, and the Bruce Campbell horror-comedy “My Name is Bruce”, which has been around since 2007, but is just now gearing up for an actual release date.

To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know if this latest International trailer for “Twilight” offers something new that haven’t already shown up in all the domestic versions out there, but there are bits and pieces there that I believe are new, although I could be wrong. In any case, along with the trailer, we also have some new images for all you Twilighters out there. The film stars Kristen Stewart as a human girl who falls in love with a vampire teen in a small town. Try explaining that date night to your dad. “Gee, dad, I’m gonna be late tonight; my boyfriend might want to suck my blood and junk.” Awkward.
Twilight is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to [...]

Two more videos from last night’s Scream 2008 Awards. I still have no idea what this thing is, but apparently it involves a lot of kids in an auditorium screaming incoherently at pretty much everything. You know, kinda like MTV’s TRL program, if it stopped pretending it still cared about quality music. In any case, besides the first teaser trailer for the “Friday the 13th” remake which we posted earlier, the show also showed off two new footages from Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen”.
The “Watchmen” clip, as cool as it turned out to be (good God does Rorschach rule or what?) is preceded by an awkward introduction by the cast and director Zack Snyder onstage, nevermind that probably 99% of those screaming kids have probably never heard of “Watchmen”, must less know anything about it, or cares. But the clip for the teen vampire flick “Twilight” REALLY got them screaming, as you would imagine in an auditorium full of hyper kids [...]

Let’s face it, this thing is going to be BIG. A massive hit, if all the 13 to 15 year old girls who have been commenting in our “Twilight” articles have anything to say about it. The makers of “Twilight” will also be getting repeat viewings from my nieces, all of whom have read the “Twilight” books and can’t get enough of the thing. So what’s the smart thing to do, even if the movie itself hasn’t been released yet? Get the sequel ready, of course, so that when the movie lands and crashes the box office, Summit can send out a press release announcing “Twilight 2″.
Deadline Hollywood Daily has your “Twilight” sequel news:
When your soundtrack isn’t even completed much less released (not until November 4th), yet it’s already in the Top 5 Best-Selling Albums on Amazon based on pre-sales alone, you know you have a hit. When Borders makes an exclusive calendar and sells out the first printing [...]

Summit Entertainment has released the latest trailer for their teen vampire movie “Twilight”, and just in time, too, since the movie is heading into theaters later this month. Head on below to see the new trailer now. It features some old scenes from the previous trailers, with added new content. One thing does stand out to me, though: the wireworks in the movie is, er, not so hot. I’m not sure what kind of stuntmen they have working this thing, but all the flying and hopping around the vampires are doing doesn’t look very good. They kind of look like what they are — actors being yanked around by thin wires invisible to the naked eye. But hey, maybe the finished film will be better. One hopes.
TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls [...]

Your latest movie gallery additions include: more of Edward and Bella (the two young characters from “Twilight”, for those of you who don’t have kids, or keep up with every movie ever made) staring longingly into each other’s eyes; Mark Wahlberg returns, this time with more looks at Russian and current reigning Bond girl Olga Kurylenko in tow to bring more pain in “Max Payne”; Angelina Jolie still looks weird in “The Changeling”, but I guess that’s just the haircut and ’40s dress talking; and Odette Yustman fights undead baby terror in “The Unborn” with the help of Gary Oldman.

Hey look, kids! It’s Edward and Bella in the final “Twilight” movie poster! And they’re, like, getting cozy and stuff. Just like in the books! I think. Not that I’ve actually read any of the books, mind you, but there seems to be a whole lot of kids out there who have. How they ever manage to drag themselves from the latest episode of MTV’s TRL, I’ll never know. Although we haven’t heard a whole lot from “Twilight” in a while, which is odd, I thought the film was scheduled for a massive launch later this year. I guess the producers are waiting for one final, massive PR launch ahead of the film’s November 21, 2008 release date.
The big story from Summit:
Bella Swan has always been a little bit different. Never one to run with the crowd, Bella never cared about fitting in with the trendy, plastic girls at her Phoenix, Arizona high school. When her mother remarried and Bella [...]

Usually when it’s learned that a movie has gone back into production, months after it has wrapped, for reshoots, that usually signifies problems with the finished product. Either the studio has seen the director’s cut, and wants changes, or test audiences weren’t thrilled about certain aspects of the movie when it was shown to them, and additions/edits were ordered by the studio. In the case of the teen vampire movie “Twilight”, that may not be the case. Or at least, that’s how the cast is spinning it.
Star Peter Facinelli told MTV this:
“They liked it so much, they are bringing us back for some encore time — to beef it up,” he said. “A little salt and pepper.
“I can tell you it’s a flashback scene… It gives us a little bit of history of the Cullen family. … They are just shooting a couple of different added scenes, and the scene I’m in, I can tell you it’s me and Robert [...]

With Warner Bros. having announced the delayed premiere of the fifth “Harry Potter” film (something about a Half-blood guy or some such), Summit Entertainment has decided to jump on the hole left behind by the now-2009 film and scheduled their “Twilight” to come earlier than expected — November 21st, 2008, to be exact. That’s about three weeks earlier than the movie’s original December 12th release date. And you gotta admit, it’s the way to go; without Potter, there’s only one other book-turned-movies the kids out there are going nuts over.
Here’s Summit’s Press Release:

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT MOVES UP RELEASE DATE FOR
TWILIGHT TO NOVEMBER 21, 2008
Los Angeles, CA August 15, 2008 – TWILIGHT, the first film in Summit Entertainment’s thriller romance franchise, has moved up its North American release date to Friday, November 21, 2008. The film, which was previously planned to be released on December, 12, 2008, is taking advantage of an opening in the upcoming fall release calendar. The new release [...]

The first teaser trailer for Catherine Hardwicke’s “Twilight” was all about setting the mood and establishing the world of the vampires and the burgeoning relationship between Bella and Edward. This second trailer seems to be about introducing the movie’s villains — a blond guy with fangs. Who likes to play baseball, apparently. Uh, I don’t know, I’ve never read the book, but the scenes here will probably make sense to the legion of “Twilight” fans out there. I have to admit, the film actually looked original when I saw the first trailer, but it’s looking a little familiar after the second trailer. Standard bad-vampire vs. good-vampire with cute high school teen caught in the middle, perhaps? Of course, I could be wrong.
In the film, a teenage girl played by Kristen Stewart risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire played by Robert Pattinson. Much teen angst and romantic forlorn stares ensue.
Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, [...]

The kids out there can’t get enough of Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” (a series of vampire novels written for young adults by — get this — a Mormon housewife!), which is probably why Entertainment Weekly just did two separate articles — one on her latest, and final “Twilight” book, “Eclipse”, and the other a behind-the-scenes look at “Twilight”, the first of what is sure to be many movies in the series. Can you say, “Harry Potter who?” Well, okay, so Potter still reigns supreme in the land of young readers, what with another couple or so movies still to come, but by the time the aging boy wizard has left cinemas, it’ll all be about angst-filled vampires. Joy!
Excerpt from the Meyer article:
During one mad summer, while her husband and three young boys slept, Stephenie Meyer wrote a mountain of pages about a heady romance between a smart 17-year-old girl and a handsome god of a vampire. Mystified as to how a [...]
