Internet work print leaks, mediocre advance word of mouth, a royally FUBAR treatment of the Deadpool character that pleased absolutely no one. None of it stopped Wolverine and company from raking in $364 million buckaroos worth of mutant lovers worldwide when “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” opened earlier in the summer. The film is now scheduled for a September 15, 2009 release on standard DVD and Blu Ray, and we have the specs and DVD artwork for the film below.
Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine’s epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe whose appearances in the film have long been anticipated.
Blu-ray Disc Specs:
The X-Men Origins: Wolverine BD is presented in widescreen (FOX TO PROVIDE ASPECT RATIO) on a 50GB dual-layer disc [...]

Coming hot on the heels of news from earlier in the day that Fox and Hugh Jackman were already looking at a sequel to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” that would take the hairy mutant to Japan, comes the even hotter news hat Fox is officially developing a “Deadpool” movie starring Ryan Reynolds as the mouthy merc. And it appears they’re going to do what they should have done with Deadpool’s appearance in “Wolverine”, namely keeping the mouthy merc, well, mouthy instead of sewing it shut. Really, WTF was that about again?
According to THR, Reynolds is still attached to play Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool), in a movie simply called “Deadpool”. The film would be a prequel of sorts, and explore Deadpool’s roots. “X-Men Origins: Deadpool”-ish in narrative, if you will.
The other good news is that Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios will produce the film. Not so much Donner, but Marvel Studios getting some kind of control over Deadpool should ensure a [...]

Financially devastating leaked workprint? What’s that? Despite having an all but finished (sans special effects) copy of its workprint leaked onto the Internet a full month before it opened, Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was still unstoppable, slashing and snarling its way to an impressive $87 million dollar debut over the weekend. The film easily took the top spot, besting Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner’s counter programming romantic comedy “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past’s” measly $15.3 million opening.
Though impressive, “Wolverine’s” box office glory was still not enough to unseat the X-Men films’ previous title holder — Brett Ratner’s much-derided “X-Men: The Last Stand” opened with $102.8 million back in 2006. Still, the comic book prequel did better than both Bryan Singer “X-Men” films, including the first movie’s $54.5 million and just barely beating out the second movie’s $85.6 million. Add the film’s domestic $87 million take with the $73 million it took in from 101 foreign territories, and things are looking very [...]

All he wanted to do was live a quiet, uneventful life with his sexy Indian live-in girlfriend, but they just wouldn’t leave him alone. They being pretty much everyone who isn’t him. Plus, he’s got a hairy brother who insists on roping him back into their reindeer games. Such is life for the feral midget mutant Canucklehead. Of course, Hugh Jackman is not a midget, which is something we’ve already come to accept ever since Bryan Singer’s “X-Men”, though comic book fans will no doubt bulk at a lot of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s”, well, origins. “Wolverine” is the first of a proposed franchise that would spotlight a different character from the X-Men universe. The viability of said franchise, of course, depends entirely on how “Wolverine” performs at the box office. Will we eventually see “X-Men Origins: Deadpool”? “X-Men Origins: Gambit”? Only the film’s weekend box office knows.
Up first for the would-be comic book franchise is Hugh Jackman in “X-Men Origins: [...]

You’ve heard about it, you’ve read about it, and you may have even taken a peek at the leaked version. But tomorrow is the first time you’ll actually be able to see “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” on the big screen. The film is a topic of great interest for a lot of people beyond the fanboys and comic book geeks out there; industry insiders are also looking at the viability of a series of “X-Men Origins” movies, with “Magneto” possibly on the horizon. This is your open thread for “X-Men: Wolverine”. If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think.

After getting caught in a big fat lie (that the leaked “Wolverine” version was missing at least 10 minutes of additional footage), FOX has now come up with another way to ensure you go see the movie in theaters and not, you know, be the punk that you are and just download it from the Interwebs to watch with your cheapskate friends. What’s this brilliant strategy they’ve come up with, you ask? Multiple different endings!
Yup, that’s right. According to director Gavin Hood himself (via Firstshowing), FOX and Marvel Studios have placed “hidden multiple secret endings on different prints and theaters will be showing different versions” of said secret endings. Basically, depending on where you see the movie, you could be seeing one ending, while your buddies in another part of the country will be seeing an entirely different ending.
But as far as I can gather, these “multiple endings” won’t alter the way the movie ends. Instead, they will be “add-ons” [...]

Look, here’s the deal: I’m seeing “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” on the big screen. That’s all there is to it. I’m not ruining the opportunity to watch Wolverine bone-claw his way through the adamantium on a dingy TV or computer screen with unfinished special effects ala the leaked workprint from earlier this month. And FOX is telling me that the workprint is missing new, crucial footage anyway and is months old, and there are still new footage to be added. Like, TONS of new footage. And FOX wouldn’t lie to me, would they? They’re good, honest people, right? Um, not so much, it would appear.
Here is one of AICN’s pooper scoopers on the workprint and the finished version, of which he has apparently seen (being a real, honest to goodness paid critic and such, we imagine, though apparently not one above breaking his contractual agreement not to spoil the film on the web, ahem):
Well, having seen the finished film, the mystery [...]

Let’s face it: at this point if you’re not jazzed up to see “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, you’re just not a comic book fan. Sure, there have been some negative buzz surrounding the film (okay, a lot of negative buzz), but it’s still a big-screen, Hollywood movie (with a mega Hollywood budget!) movie starring everyone’s favorite feral Canucklehead. And yeah, so maybe Hugh Jackman is perhaps a tad too tall, thus taking away that aspect of Wolverine that was so cool — he’s shorter than your kid, but he’s infinitely more dangerous! — but it’s still friggin Wolverine on the big screen, claws and all. Anyways, here’s the latest trailer for the movie.
Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabertooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.
Gavin Hood directs a roster of muties that includes Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Dominic Monaghan, [...]

A new clip featuring a pissed off Wolverine confronting a smooth, happy-go-lucky Sabretooth and three more character profiles from the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, which opens May 1st. Yup, it’s almost here. We’ll finally be able to see what all the hullabaloo is all about. And yes, I believe that is a technical term for big-budget Hollywood Summer Event films that have been enshrouded in controversy.
The three new characters focused this time are The Blob, Emma Frost, and Stryker, the villain of the piece. Not sure why they’re profiling Frost and Blob, do they really have that big of a role in the movie? I don’t see one for Agent Zero, though, and I see him in all the trailers. The clip is called “Not From Around Here”, and is apparently after Sabretooth has taken out Wolvie’s lady love which, justifiably, ticks the little Canucklehead off pretty something awful. (Wolvie is still Canadian in the movie, right?)

Wolverine sure doesn’t look all that feral and badass in the ad, even with the claws all snickt‘ed and what have you. Meanwhile, rapper Eminem decided to dress up as The Punisher for his XXL cover to promote his latest album, which makes fun of hot topics like, er, you know, that Palin chick from Alaska. Yes, Eminem is current like that, if by “current” you mean about a year too late. Say it with me now, “WTF?”

During an appearance on Fox movie Channel’s Life after Film School (I haven’t a clue what that is, but apparently it’s some kind of TV show), “X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked about the plans for the new “X-Men” movie, tentatively called “X-Men: First Class” (aka “X-Men 4″), which will follow younger versions of the familiar X-Men characters we’re used to (Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Beast, etc). And what then? Maybe spin-off movies, ala Wolverine, perhaps?
Says Shuler (via Comics Continuum):
“It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun… I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. If this movie doesn’t launch a “Deadpool” spin-off, then Fox is dumber than we thought.
And let’s face it, we thought they were pretty damn dumb to begin with, so they would have to REALLY go out of their way to prove to us that they’re even dumber, which would be mission accomplished if they don’t greenlight a “Deadpool” spin-off right away and ignore the nonsensical bullshit (ala Deadpool minus a mouth? WTF?) in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
Starring Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Dominic Monaghan, Lynn Collins, Danny Huston, Daniel Henney, Taylor Kitsch, [...]

Okay, so three of these images are new, and the fourth one is not new, but it doesn’t have another site’s logo plastered all over it, so that sorta qualifies as new. Yes, we’re very easy that way. But enough blabbering. Here are some new images from Hugh Jackman’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. Now I could be wrong, but from these images I surmise that Wolvie and Sabbie used to be buddies, but fell out, and now they want to gut each other. And Ryan Reynolds likes to play with knives. Well actually, everyone in this movie seems to like playing with knives, which can only be fun for us.
Leading up to the events of “X-Men,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” tells the story of Wolverine’s epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men [...]

Okay let’s admit it, what little we saw of the G.I. Joe game based on the movie left a lot to be desired. I haven’t seen graphics that poor since my SNES, and that’s insulting my SNES. The Wolverine game, on the other hand, promises to be a tad better, if by “tad better” you mean not hiding the game when your friends come over. Or at least, this uncut few minutes from the game featuring Wolverine taking on some helicopters would have you believe this thing could actually be fun.
The game version of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” is due out on the X-Box and Playstation consoles May 1st, the same day as the movie. It will feature:
    * Cinema quality action sequences with jaw-dropping graphics and detail
    * Over 100 custom moves, reflex quick-kills, and long-range lunge attacks
    * Rage abilities to unlock special moves and powers

Except they didn’t use the word “bastards”. (My guess is, “those rascals”?) In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fox prez Tom Rothman makes his case for why those who have downloaded the leaked workprint copy of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” should still see it in theaters — it’s missing over 10 minutes of additional footage, and the special effects are unfinished. EW also theorizes on who might be the culprit.
A bit of what Rothamn told EW:
“The version that went out is unfinished. It’s about 10 minutes shorter, doesn’t have key scenes, it wasn’t edited, and none of the effects shots were in any remotely final form,” Rothman tells EW. “It’s a complete misrepresentation of the film and is deeply unfair to the people who have worked on it for years.”
The number that was going around was more like 15 minutes of additional footage. Looks like ol Tom is lowballing it. I would have exaggerated the number to 20 minutes myself, just [...]

Hear that? That’s the sound of executives at 20th Century Fox falling all over themselves in a desperate attempt to bring the Internet to a halt. Why? Because someone, somewhere has leaked a near DVD quality copy of Fox’s biggest Summer movie, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” onto the Internet a full month ahead of its May 1 release. And did I mention this thing isn’t some crappy copy of the movie shot with a camcorder? And no, this is not an April Fools joke, though Fox probably wishes it was.
Word from Hitfix is that the leaked copy is “a near-finished DVD quality rip, marred only by a few unfinished FX shots.” In fact, there aren’t even any of those pesky timecodes or watermarks to mar your pirating experience. The only missing elements to the pirated copy seems to be scenes from director Gavin Hood’s recent reshoots of the film, which, according to actor Hugh Jackman, was the result of scheduling conflicts [...]

I still think the wireworks in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” could use some extra polish, but eh, maybe the finished product will look better. In any case, here are more pics from the upcoming Gavin Hood movie for your viewing pleasure. Check the sorta, kinda new (some of them have shown up earlier, but in lesser quality) “Wolverine” images below. Nice pants, Deadpool. Sorry about the face. Or was that a surprise? Not anymore!

Fridays usually means new movie trailer debuts. Alas, this week is looking a little dry on that front, so we’ll have to go with clips from two upcoming movies instead. So what do we have to whet your appetite this Friday? A couple of new clips from the latest “Fast and Furious” installment and more 30-second “Wolverine” TV spots. Nothing new in the “Wolverine” ones, but the “Fast & Furious” videos are pretty long and worth a watch.
