Max Brooks’ novel “World War Z” is about a UN official who goes around the world interviewing people and getting their first-person accounts of what transpired during a recent zombie infestation that led to the World War Z of the title. Not exactly something you could turn into a “Bourne Identity with Zombies” movie, right? Well that’s not going to stop writer J. Michael Straczynski, who recently told MTV how he approached the adaptation of the movie. No word yet on what director Marc Foster, recently announced as helming the project, had to say about Straczynski’s approach, though, which, I dunno, sounds kind of uninteresting.
From MTV:
“We talk about it as a thriller, the closest comparison being ‘The Bourne Identity’…
Most zombie movies to this point have been small, focusing on a few people in a house. And this has got real scare. You’re in India with hundreds of boats trying to get out of there with a tidal wave [...]

Here’s one thing you can’t say about Swedish director Marc Foster: you can’t pigeonhole the guy, that’s for sure. After some high-profile arthouse pictures (”Monster’s Ball”, “Finding Neverland”), he decided to give Hollywood thrillers a try (”Stay”), before hopping over to comedy (Will Ferrell’s “Stranger Than Fiction”), and most recently, took a shot at in-your-face action with the current Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace”, opening today. Having already publicly announced that he wouldn’t be doing the next Bond movie, despite having been offered the job, what’s next for the hairfree Foster? How about zombies. Yes, friggin’ zombies. I told you this guy can’t be pigeonholed. You didn’t believe me, did you?
Variety has more:
Paramount has set “Quantum of Solace” director Marc Forster to helm “World War Z,” based on the Max Brooks bestselling novel about a worldwide infestation of flesh-eating zombies.
“Changeling” scribe J. Michael Straczynski is writing the screenplay, and Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing.
Brooks — the son of Mel [...]
