There are good news and bad news for Warner Bros. regarding their movie, the Christopher Nolan film “The Dark Knight”. The bad news is that the film dropped over 52% in its second week of release; the good news is that, after making north of $150 million in its first week, a 52% drop still means “The Dark Knight” raked in a not-too-shabby $75.6 million in its second week of release, for a total of $314 million in two weeks. Batman easily maintained the top spot at the box office over the weekend, with only two new films opening against it: the comedy “Step Brothers”, and the return of “The X-Files”, which landed at #4 with $10 million. “Step Brothers”, meanwhile, took the second spot and tripled the ticket sales of “The X-Files” with $30 million in its debut.
The $10 million by “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” is disappointing, considering that the attendees were probably diehard fans of the [...]

“Transformers 2″. Last week was full of “Transformers 2″ movie news. I don’t know if that’s the result of Michael Bay’s “Operation Confusion” moving full steam ahead, but it seems unlikely. More remakes of sci-fi classics and not-so-much classics, and “Dune” finally gets moving toward actually happening. Maybe. This, and more, in your condensed version of The Sci-Fi Week That Was.

What would a sci-fi week in review be without a Stargate or X-Files sequel news? Well it would be pretty damn boring, that’s for sure. The previous week’s sci-fi movie and TV news also includes a huge helping of solid casting news about Joss Whedon’s new FOX show Dollhouse, which stars Eliza Dushku and now, a couple of more castmembers from Whedon’s previous shows. And finally, some Star Wars and BSG news as well.

Not content with just Mulder and Scully, FOX has added three more names to its cast for the upcoming “X-Files” sequel. Rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet (”The Whole Nine Yards”) and comedian Billy Connolly will be joining returning stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in the sci-fi sequel for writer/director Chris Carter.
More:
Xzibit and Peet will play fellow FBI agents to David Duchovny’s Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Scully in the supernatural thriller with a stand-alone story, not a sequel or continuation of the hit 1998 feature adaptation. Citing a policy of secrecy surrounding the plot line, Fox would not confirm any details regarding the three actors’ roles.
No word on what role Connolly will be playing. You know, I haven’t heard a thing about the Cigarette Smoking Man. Was he even still alive at the end of the TV series? And if he wasn’t, couldn’t they just, you know, clone the character or something? No one stays dead on that show.

If I’m reading what Moviehole says about “The X-Files 2″ correctly, they’re telling me this sequel is basically a launch pad for new characters to take over the series. Or maybe I’m just reading it wrong, but did I just read that Mulder and Scully won’t even show up in the movie until nearly an hour in? And that they are “on the run” for some reason? Huh. I guess I wasn’t really paying attention to the end of the TV series, but didn’t it end with Mulder and Scully in a motel somewhere enjoying each other’s company?
Here are the details for “X-Files 2″ with POTENTIAL SPOILERS according to Moviehole:
The first big moment of the film occurs in a travel agency where a crazed man – someone convinced of alien life – is holding some folks hostage. Agents Winlock, Darby and Plummer (the new Mulder, by the sounds of it) are in charge of the hostage situation – and promise [...]

After a lot of rumors and speculations, it appears that The Powers That Be have finally granted “The X-Files” series another movie — “X-Files 2″ is a go, with a December 10 start date and a release date set for July 2008. The series creator, Chris Carter, will return as co-writer (sharing credit with frequent show writer Frank Spotnitz) and director of the feature, which will reunite David Duchovny as FBI agent and true believer Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, his FBI agent partner who, inexplicably, refuses to request a transfer away from her kooky partner. It must be true love, indeed.
More:
The studio is staying little about the film’s story line. All that is being revealed is that it is a “supernatural thriller” and that the movie will take the complicated relationship between FBI agents Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions as Mulder continues on his quest for the truth and Scully remains [...]

Sci Fi Wire recently spoke to David Duchovny about “The X-Files 2″, the long-rumored sequel that seems to be on the fast track for a December 2007 start. Or at least that’s the hope of everyone involved in the project, as at this point I’m not sure if there is still really a lot of demand for a sequel to the 1998 movie from the series’ fan base. According to Duchovny, he recently had lunch with co-star Gillian Anderson, who he hadn’t seen for a long time, and series creator (and the sequel’s would-be director) Chris Carter to discuss the project.
Says The Dutchman:
“That was nice,” Duchovny said while promoting his latest movie, Things We Lost in the Fire. “I see Chris quite a bit. We live kind of in the same neighborhood. We live within maybe 10 or 15 miles of one another. But I hadn’t seen Gillian in a while. So it was like a reunion. It really was. [...]

You can’t really blame David Duchovny for hyping up a possible second “X-Files” movie, considering that his career has been — well, what career? David’s big-screen adventures are filled with bombs, and his alien-chasing partner in crime, Gillian Anderson hasn’t exactly had a better time of it at the movies. While talking to critics at the Television Critics Association press tour, Duchovny was anxious to let everyone know that a script for “X-Files 2″ has been written by show creator Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, and that he expects to get the script sometime next week. If Fox gives the go-head, Duchovny says that he and Gillian Anderson (who is currently plying her trade in the UK) would happily sign up.
The film reportedly was delayed in part because of a now-settled lawsuit filed by Carter in late 2005 against 20th Century Fox Television alleging breach of contract, contractual interference and other claims over payments allegedly owed to him from the [...]
