Shia LaBeouf hates monkeys. Well, not really, but he doesn’t think that putting a monkey on his shoulder will make the character Yorick all that different from his Sam Witwicky character, which he’s been playing for the last two “Transformers” movies. And as such, at the moment the in-demand actor isn’t willing to do D.J. Caruso’s adaptation of the comic book “Y: The Last Man”.
It seems like ages since we’ve heard any updates on the movie, and this current update doesn’t sound like very good news for the in-development picture, which I had optimistically slated as a 2008 film. Oh boy was I being optimistic!
In an interview with Wizard magazine (via SuperheroHype) LaBeouf says the two roles (Sam Witwitcky from “Transformers” and “Y’s” Yorick) are too familiar, and he needs a little variety in his life, thus Yorick is not for him “currently”, but that could change. Though adds LaBeouf, when he does change his mind, he might be [...]

You know how much I hate wannabe trilogies. My contention is they should try to make the best movie first, then start thinking about sequels. I really, really hate it when directors or producers start throwing around the “trilogy” word even before the first roll of film for their movie is shot. It almost always ends in great disappointment. The latest not-even-shot-yet movie to get the “trilogy” tag is “Y: The Last Man”.
Director D.J. Caruso told USA Today this:
“For me, thematically, the most important thing and the reason I want to do this is … I don’t want to say it’s the end of the innocence, but it’s actually a man-child who has to become a real man now,” Caruso says. “I think it’s a really simple, beautiful theme, but at the same time, the movie’s really pop-culture entertainment.”
While the original plan was to squeeze the entire series into one movie, Caruso says the film will cover the first 14 [...]

It would appear that way. That is, if Shia LaBeouf wants to do it, chances are the Powers That Be will fall all over themselves to give the role to him. And why not? The kid has been churning out nothing but hits, from “Transformers” to “Disturbia”, to the upcoming “Indiana Jones” sequel. “Y: The Last Man’s” director, D.J. Caruso, who last directed LaBeouf in “Disturbia” and will be working with him again in the terrorism-themed “Eagle Eye”, told MTV that the “It” boy of the century has been “chasing [the Yorick part] prior to anything” he’s done, which translates into: Yeah, LaBeouf is going to be Yorick, the last man left on Earth in the upcoming movie version of Brian K. Vaughan’s comics.
More about “Y” from the man who created it:
“The plague that has killed all of the men comes up often in science fiction,” Vaughan said, “but it’s either written by chauvinist pigs who have the lone survivor [...]

(Article by Tom G.) Y: The Last Man is one of my favourite comic book series. Written by Brian K. Vaughan, it’s an entertaining romp with some terrific characters and a wonderful set-up. It’s not exactly intellectually engaging, but at the very least it’s an incredibly fun story. The basic premise is:
Suddenly – and without warning – a mysterious plague kills every living creature on the planet with a Y chromosone…in other words, no more men! Except one. Amateur escape artist Yorick Brown has somehow survived. It’s now a very different world, and his unique status is far from privileged. If they can’t exploit Yorick, the new world powers may just decide his usefulness is at an end!
Now after many rumours, a director has finally been attached to bring this series to the big screen. His name is D.J. Caruso, and his last film was the surprise hit Disturbia, a film which I wasnt blown away by, but found it [...]
