Lucas McCain and his trusty, ridiculously fast shooting Winchester rifle will return to deliver justice on the TV airwaves if CBS has their way. Anyone who knows me know that I love TV Westerns (even if I didn’t care too much for AMC’s “Hell on Wheels”), so this is definitely good news if it actually goes to series.
The network has closed deals to return the Western action-adventure show starring Chuck Connors back to network TV, with Laeta Kalogridis (“Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry 3D”) adapting and Chris Columbus (“Harry Potter”) set to direct the pilot.
The original “Rifleman” TV show ran for five seasons in the late ’50s and early ’60s, and usually featured Connors’ rifleman, a former Civil War veteran, protecting his town with his handy Winchester. As I recall, most of the time McCain would end up facing off against gunslingers with six-shooters and such. It was all very ridiculous, but somehow very entertaining.
The show also co-starred Johnny Crawford as McCain’s son Mark and Paul Fix as the town Marshall.
