Channing Tatum to Explore Alternate Earths to Find his True Love in Ion

Nix June 24, 2010 POSTED IN » Ion Movie, Sci-Fi Movie News

Nothing will stand in the way of Channing Tatum and true love, not even alternate Earths in parallel dimensions and all that other sci-fi babble whatchamacallits. That’s the basic premise of “Ion”, a new spec script by Will Dunn that has the Brothers Scott attached as producers and “G.I. Joe’s” Channing Tatum attached as star.

The film would find Tatum playing “a man who travels to different Earths and dimensions in order to find his reincarnated lover”.

One assumes that means Tatum will be playing a brilliant scientist, or a close facsimile. Of course, if they want to make the movie convincing, Tatum would be playing a jarhead who stumbles across the technology and decides to use it. Regardless, I’m reasonably certain the film will still end up being unintentionally amusing, as most of Channing’s films invariably end up being.

“Ion” is being described as a “sci-fi romantic epic” in the vein of “Avatar”, which apparently has ushered in an all-new need for sci-fi mega budgeted projects by Hollywood studios. Hopefully these new sci-fi projects will keep the visual advances of “Avatar” but ditch the third-grade writing. (Sorry, third-graders.)

‘Yo, where’s my true love, bro, don’t make me ask you again! Yo!’
