If the prospect of a rebooted “Scary Movie” wasn’t enough to get you lining up at the movie theater a week in advance, perhaps this will do: perennial tabloid fodders Lindsay Lohan and her male counterpart, Charlie Sheen are set to join the cast of “Scary Movie 5”, which is expected to be a complete reboot of the horror-comedy series, cause apparently it’s possible to reboot even a parody franchise. Go figure.
No word on who they’ll be playing, though this won’t be Sheen’s first tour on the franchise. He co-starred in the third movie and had a cameo in the fourth. It’s possible the oft-troubled Lohan will be playing the franchise’s new star, since Anna Faris, who was the female lead in the last four movies, has decided not to come back. My guess is, though, that that new female lead gig has gone to Ashley Tisdale, Lohan’s fellow former Disney princess. Tisdale was cast way back in June, a month after word came down that Faris was not interested in returning.
Since this is a reboot, I guess it makes sense to go with a new female lead. If, you know, things can possibly make sense in a “Scary Movie” universe.
Malcolm Lee (“Undercover Brother”) will direct, with David Zucker returning to write and produce.
“Scary Movie 5” is scheduled to yuk it up in theaters again January 11, 2013.
