Hunky dreamboat Ryan Gosling finds a filmmaker he likes working with, and continue to turn out movies with them. His highest profile recent collaborations have been “Drive” and “Only God Forgives” with Nicolas Winding Refn (the duo was also supposed to deliver a “Logan’s Run” remake). But the star is also reuniting with his “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance for the crime drama “The Place Beyond the Pines”. Gosling uglies up real well, as you can see in these new pictures from the movie that show the star will all manner of home-made looking neck, hand, and face tattoos.
“The Place Beyond the Pines” is about a down on his luck motorcycle stunt rider (Gosling), who starts robbing banks in order to support his family, which includes Eva Mendes. His newfound outlaw status puts him on a collision course with a gung-ho rookie cop (Bradley Cooper).
“Blue Valentine”, Cianfrance’s first film was a quiet, brutal portrait of a family disintegrating, heavy with emotion and improvisations. It’s probably a safe bet that “The Place Beyond the Pines” will focus more on the relationships and interpersonal drama than on the action scenes. You can’t help but be reminded of “Drive” when you watch the trailer, a quiet, brooding picture punctuated with sudden moments of brutal violence. Still, “Blue Valentine” was a great film, and the closer this gets, the more exciting it is.
“The Place Beyond the Pines” also stars Ray Liotta, Ben Mendelsohn, Dane Dehaan, Rose Byrne, and Bruce Greenwood, and opens in a limited release on March 29, 2013.
