After all the starlets of Hollywood have auditioned, Haley Bennett and Chloe Moretz are the last two standing to get doused by the famous bucket of pig’s blood in the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s “Carrie”, set to be directed by Kimberly Peirce (“Boys Don’t Cry”). Or at least, that’s the going rumor this week around the Interwebs.
Word has auditions for the lead in the horror remake coming down to the two little ladies, after actresses like Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning, Bella Heathcote, and Lily Collins took their swing and missed. Shailene Woodley (“The Descendants”) was apparently offered the lead, but said No. I guess she doesn’t feel like following up an Oscar-nominated role with a schlocky genre offering, as is usually the trend in Hollywood over the years. Smart kid.
Of Moretz and Bennett, you’re probably more familiar with Moretz, who famously played the foul-mouthed Hit Girl in “Kick Ass”, before vamping it up in “Let Me In”, “Hugo”, and “Texas Killing Fields”. She’ll next be seen in Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” as well as a dozen other movies. The little lady sure likes to work. Compared to Moretz, Bennett is a bum, with only two films in 2010 and a TV movie in 2011. Heck, she doesn’t even have anything lined up for 2012 yet! In terms of availability, of course, Bennett is the way to go here, but that’s just me being practical.
As for Carrie’s religious, slightly whack job mom, Pierce seems to have settled on either Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore.
