Couldn’t she just use her “Carrie” powers to kill the bad guys? Or her Hit-Girl badass fighting skills? I guess not. So minus the powers and kung fu (and guns), it looks like Chloe Moretz will be playing the (young) damsel in distress to Denzel Washington’s shadowy former black ops assassin in the big-screen adaptation of “The Equalizer”.
The role is Teri, a young prostitute who Washington’s Robert McCall meets daily at a diner and discusses books and other assorted nonsense to pass the time. He becomes protective of her, and it’s actually Teri’s dilemma with some Russian thugs (and her pimp) that first sets McCall (who has since retired to working the aisles of Home Depot) on his road as a vigilante.
Mortez’s casting is very interesting. Her character went through some pretty harrowing moments in the script that I read, but with the young Moretz cast in the role, my guess is that a lot of the sordid moments in poor Teri’s life will get the boot.
Meanwhile, Washington is still set to star in the actioner, with his “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua still attached to re-unite with him on the film. Sony is of course looking at jumpstarting a new action movie franchise for Washington. I don’t think he’s had a movie franchise before, so this would be the first.
Things are set to get equalized next year, April 11, 2014.
