Choy Lee Fut Coming to the US as Fight the Fight

Look, I understand that “Choy Lee Fut” isn’t a marketable title, and changing it for release in other countries makes perfect sense. But “Fight the Fight”? Really? That’s just lazy. What’s worse is that martial arts legend Sammo Hung is featured prominently on the cover despite the fact that his screen time is very limited. Don’t get me wrong — I enjoyed “Choy Lee Fut”, but if you’re expecting a Sammo Hung fight fest, you’re going to be seriously disappointed. Just so you know.

Here’s what the flick is all about:

Having taken his father’s advice, one man decides to return home in pursuit of a fresh start. While training at his father’s martial arts school, he learns that his father has given consent to sell the school to a rival martial arts school. In a bold effort to save the school, a challenge to fight is presented to the competitor, winner takes all. As the fighting competition commences, only one will walk away the winner.

Personally, I thought the film was pretty good. It’s not the world’s best martial arts flick, mind you, but it’s certainly worth checking out. For a more in-depth assessment, feel free to read James Mudge’s review. “Choy Lee Fut” arrives as “Fight the Fight” in the US on May 1st, 2012. There’s a trailer below if you’re interested.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)
