To no one’s surprise, Chris Evans has accepted Marvel Studio’s offer to be their Captain America in the upcoming “The First Avenger” movie, the first of many Marvel movies to feature the Star Spangled Avenger. The news of Evans being offered the gig came out last week before the weekend break, and at the time it was “if” he would take the job. Obviously Evans is no dummy, and neither are his “people”, because today THR reports that the deal is all but done.
“The First Avenger” marks the second superhero that Evans will be suiting up for from the Marvel Universe, including Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch in the first two “Fantastic Four” movies. Joe Johnston will direct the WWII-set epic, which is scheduled for a 2011 release. The film would then lead into “The Avengers” movie in 2012.
