Christian Bale and revenge stories go together like Batman and Begins. Hell, with the guy’s intensity, I don’t know why he doesn’t do more revenge movies. Looks like he plans on rectifying that with “Out of the Furnace”, which had previously been called “The Low Dweller” since it first landed in Hollywood back in 2008 and became the sensation of the town. Though curiously, despite its reputation, the film hasn’t managed to get made until now, with Bale attached in the lead. And who knows if that’ll change in a few months…
Based on a script by Brad Ingelsby, “Furnace” would star Bale as “a man released after serving four years in prison. His hopes for a peaceful homecoming are thwarted when his younger brother is brutally murdered and he sets out for revenge.”
Yeah, brutal murder of a sibling will kinda screw up a homecoming everytime.
Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) will direct the revenge thriller for Relativity Media. Robert Duvall is also expected to join the cast, but that’s still up in the air.
Though Cooper is now firmly in the director’s chair, previous contenders for the gig in the project’s 4-year lifespan has included the likes of Ridley Scott and Rupert Sanders, and at one point both Mark Wahlberg and Leondaro DiCaprio were attached to star.
